Is this surfy looking hot shorty actually HELPING me? Or is she just into the fact that I look like a businessman today because I am wearing my best baby blue business shirt and carrying my professional-looking black suitcase? The surf shop located 112-118 Rundle Mall is clearly "one of the best" I've experienced so far. (Am I allowed to say that cliche phrase again?) I was there for quite a while for what felt like at least 45 minutes, the employee was amazingly helpful, very friendly, got my joke about how "that red dress you've chosen is not going to last very long on my imaginary girlfriend" and...dare I say, she was sexy-lookin'. Not only was she sexy, but the beach straw hat, sexy red dress, sunnies, and shoes that she picked out for me was definitely the best looking outfit chosen by a a shop assistant so far. Obviously coming back here to bring sexy back. Honeymoon holiday gift for my next girlfriend? This is the place for that. I wonder what other shop can top this?

Surf shops were once my only outlet for fashion items, but my taste has since matured. But, if you feel like being a walking advertisement with the brand logo of your new t-shirt splashed across the fron of it, be my guest, it's one of the best places to go!

Amid the daggy pieces are some nice quality tops, and they are also good for summer dresses and formal dresses, sometimes pricing things at much lower than standard op-shop prices (though sometimes pricing them high - I think it depends on which volunteer did it!). At the moment, just before Christmas, there are a lot of women's dresses, and plenty of nice ones too. It seems that people have recently cleaned out their wardrobes and ditched the clothes they are sick of or no longer fit. So it's a very good time for op-shopping! The book selection here is low quality, and much of it is very dated. They have quite a large range of kids toys and clothes, and some men's clothing, and that's about it. It's an amusing place when you happen upon an elderly Russian lady trying to bargain down a winter coat with a determined shop volunteer. The bartering became quite heated, and she wasn't leaving the store without this coat, nor was she getting the enormous discount she wanted. I totally agree with Jo B as it really does depend on what volunteer sales person you get served by and the price you end up getting or bartering for, some just don't give in that easy. But I have to say I don't tend to barter that much with Vinnies or any other cheap store, considering the item was possibility two or three times the price it is now. Plus some of these stores don't know what the item/s are actually worth, I'm sure other 'vintage' shop owners pop into these shops on a regular basis to poach and re-sell. My partner and I own two Crumpler bags, camera case and camera strap. So, my review will be from a customer point of view. In particular, I will focus this review on my recent purchase, the Dry Red No 6. Or otherwise known as the Rolls Royce of the Crumpler bags (as I am told). My partner introduced me to Crumpler many years ago with a story about its inception/creation. I was intrigued to find out that Crumpler was founded by fellas wanting to create a bag strong enough to carry a slab of beer when riding on the way home. They experimented with many techniques and even got advice from a parachute maker. After creating it, this bag made it's way around while working as a messenger/courier. It immediately caught the attention of other Couriers. The business was then founded. I love supporting Australian made products and also a sucker for a good story behind a company. I was sold when I heard that story and also when they told me that all of their products have a lifetime warranty. That is confidence in their product and also calls for a higher price. The materials used on my Dry Red No 6 are quality. Heavy duty zips, thick material, buckles, great padding and it looks snazzy with contrasting colours from black to red. The first pocket is decked out with compartments for all sorts of stationary goods. The main compartment is very roomy and well padded to protect your belongings. You will find a zip to expand the main compartment, which is great if you are traveling and need just a little more space. My favourite part of this bag is the laptop sleeve. Most bags you will find the laptop sleeve in the main compartment. But no, Crumpler are always being innovative and creative about solving problems. They have constructed the sleeve at the back of the pack with a zip on the side. This means you do not need to go into the main compartment to get it out. This is so handy when you are travelling through customs and need to get your laptop out quick at the security gate. I don't want to have to fumble around to get my laptop out of my bag. It is like, bam there it is! This bag is so comfortable as well. I walk around a lot and travel a bit. So, the padding on the shoulder straps and back are perfect for long hauls. Best of all, I know that if I have any problems, Crumpler will fix them without hesitation. I am also told they may give you a loan bag if they have one available. How good is that?!

I guess they spend a great deal of money on advertising because I seem to be carrying a lot of information about Crumpler bags, yet I don't even own one to carry my actual stuff in! I have read about them doing a sort of endurance test on their new bags involving opening and closing the zip 500 times and kicking it around a room for fun, attaching wires to its fingertips and setting dogs onto it, that they call 'The Torture Test' which I find really inappropriate for some reason. Possibly because bags I always associate with travel, and travel these days is fraught with dangers depending on where you are heading - advertising agencies take note of my stream of association here - and the idea of carrying something that has been tortured, even if in jest, even if in trendy publicist's speak... is kind of off putting. Yes, I'm being silly, sort of. I don't think they include dogs and wire in 'The Torture Test' but I do feel a bit put off by this sort of advertising-speak. The actual store and the products themselves seem a bit pricey, and as colourful as they are, sometimes it is the cost of the object that dictates my interest. A toiletries bag doesn't need to set you back fifty bucks. You can get one at Target for about ten dollars. However some of the designs and colour combinations are crucially attractive, and I guess that's the thing I do sometimes lust after. If I'm going to own a status symbol, and let's face it. that's the level they are pitched at, it may as well be one that does look worth pinching because there could be all sorts of fancy technology inside like a laptop, a blueberry a hand held video cam or even a pair of Calvin's and Nike's... so.... you go figure. I'm not against the bags themselves, I may be against the people who write their speeches; it could be a little too surreal to work out, but don't leave it unattended because someone like me may find it suddenly very attractive.
