My family and I came here for dinner on a whim during St. Paddy's day weekend. Luckily, the dinner rush came right after us. So for those of you new to the area, and are unsure of parking... There is a parking garage right on top of the restaurant. And to my surprise, there was plenty of parking when my family and I went to have dinner! So that was a plus. So onto the restaurant and dinner... Lemongrass is a very small restaurant. It's very modest and minimalistic in decor, but comfortable. We were greeted and seated immediately. If you have a party over 6, I suggest calling ahead and letting them know that you guys are coming. I am not sure if they take reservations, but it wouldn't hurt to call ahead because they seem to get very busy. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer, which was okay for me. It wasn't a traditional calamari that I was used to. The breading wasn't as crisp as I would have liked, and instead of tartar sauce and lemon, it was served with thai chili sauce. But we ate it all. I ordered the Tom Yum Soup with shrimp, which was SUPERB! I've lived all over the contry (including Los Angeles, Houston, Seattle, Dallas, Las Vegas), and this Tom Yum Soup is definitely top 3 for me. We also ordered the Pad See Ew with chicken which I liked a lot. It wasn't salty, watery, bland, or had soggy noodles. It was flavorful, and well balanced in seasoning and texture. I loved that they made it with kale. We also ordered the sesame chicken. We loved that it wasn't heavily breaded and deep fried. the sauce was flavorful. I have fixed feeling about the consistency of the food here. I came here twice with my friends and I had to say the chef recommendations and the curry menu were pretty good. The pineapple fried rice was good the first try but then got blander and blander. I believe the chef is Chinese as I taste some Chinese elements in the dishes. This was me and my friends' favorite restaurant on the Corner when we were students at UVA a few years ago. When we came back after a few years, I was a bit let down that the management had changed, and so has their menu - a green bean+pork belly dish that I loved was removed. The drunken noodle, which I had a hard time finding comparably delicious ones post college, was a bit lacking. The sauce was not as dark, or flavorful, and the noodles were a bit hard and less chewy. However, the highlight was definitely the Pad Thai. It tastes extremely authentic, not too sour or sweet like other places, and the sauce not jarringly orange. My friend who orders Pad Thai at nearly every Thai restaurant we go to (trust me, we've been to our fair share of Thai places from coast to coast) says this is the best she's had. read more

My favorite dish here is the mango chicken. I've been here numerous times and the food here is good. I think for what you get, compared to other Thai restaurants in the area, the food is expensive. It's conveniently located on The Corner for students and the service is decent. My FAVORITE Thai restaurant! Lemongrass was the first Thai restaurant I ever visited while at UVA. My positive experiences eating Thai food since have been few and far between. I try to stop by whenever I'm passing through or visiting Charlottesville to pick up chicken pad Thai. The only downside is that I used to have difficulties trying to add broccoli to my order (oddly enough) and the restaurant is fairly small. I LOVE this place. Something about the Pad Thai (my go-to order for Thai restaurants) is just so different at this place, I can never get enough of it! It's not dry unlike many places I've tried at, and always comes with lots of chicken. Service was good and quick, atmosphere was great, and it's conveniently located right on the Corner. I've heard great places about Lemongrass and will definitely be back to try the other options on the menu but this review is just based off my experience with their pho. Their pho is truly an embarrassment to the dish itself, or maybe I have high standards. Being from northern Virginia, it was a tough transition coming from a place with an excellent pho place at least every five miles to Charlottesville where this seems to be only option walking distance from campus. After not having been home for a while, I was really craving pho, and when I heard that Lemongrass had it on its menu (but only on the weekends? Odd.), I had to try it. I always thought I wasn't all that picky about pho, but I hadn't known what bad pho was until I came here. The broth is awful and flavorless. Not rich and hearty like pho broth should. But worst of all was the meat. It was weird and curly not the thinly shaved, rare pieces of flank steak that I'm used to. I was very disappointed. Again, I'll have to come back to Lemongrass to try its real food and will hopefully be able to write a more positive review off of that experience, but as for now, the pho at Lemongrass has made me appreciate the pho at home now more than ever. read more

What's All The Fuss?? I was not impressed with Lemongrass. I love Thai food and found the offerings here to be very average. My chicken Pad Thai was OK, nothing special. The Nam-Viet spring rolls, fried, were nice and crispy, just right, on the side that was up and yet soggy and greasy, just wrong, on the side settled on the plate. I've been to Thailand 3 times for 2 weeks each time. This place was pretty close to authentic thai food, but miss the bill in a few areas, for one the rice was not Jasmine rice, or atleast the good variety....and you can always tell this because the retaurant should smell like jasmine rice if it is the real deal. As for the PRICE complaints that must be poor college student because the prce was fine for what it is and was actually affordable compared to other cities. This restaurant is great for lunch, especially if you are a student at UVa or work at the hospital. All lunches are $7.00 a piece and are sure to delight the soul. Although, there sourcing seems to be pretty conventional, it is a local business that I am proud to support. Today, I had a Tofu Lemongrass bowl that was a vermicelli noodle bowl with lettuce, carrots, tofu and cucumbers all in a fish sauce. The food at this restaurant is pretty good and I go there often for both lunch and dinner. My personal opinion is that this place offers the best tasting Asian cuisine at the Corner, but every time I go, I'm always disappointed by the portions I receive. Not long ago, I went to Lemongrass for dinner with several friends. The place is quite small, so our table right in the center of the restaurant is only a foot away from the table next to us. When our entrees arrived, my friend was dismayed to find that her Pad See Ew (stir fried broad noodles with soy sauce, egg, Chinese broccoli, and sliced meat) was much smaller in portion compared to the other times we ordered it. My own Thai Spicy Beef and side jasmine rice were also lacking in portion. An extra rice serving of rice costs $1.50, so they always have a tiny serving of jasmine rice in a small square plate. If you want value for your dollar, Gingko's (the Chinese restaurant next door) gives you all the rice you want as well as large dish portions. Twenty minutes later, as we sit happily chatting away, the three girls at the table next to ours also received their orders of Pad See Ew. Glancing over briefly, I gasped out loud in shock at the enormous portions they received. Their plates contained almost 3 times the amount on my friend's plate. Although this experience made us unhappy customers, we did not complain (as usual) and will probably soon return to Lemongrass again for more Pad See Ew. The food is reasonably good and the location is good, so the restaurant will probably not have many problems even if they do give irregular portions. read more

I used to eat here multiple times a week when I was in college. I even waited tables here for a little while and got to eat the food everyday. I never got tired of it and I can tell you first hand that the owners are exceptionally nice people who really care about the food. It is their art and their passion. They use the highest quality ingredients they can get a hold of and cook each dish individually (not like many other low-priced asian restaurants where they just scoop stuff out of a vat). I've done a lot of traveling all over the country and it's hard to find food this good and also inexpensive, no matter where you are! Now that I don't live in Charlottesville anymore, I really miss this place and try to stop by every time I come through town. My favorite dishes were the Pad Thai, mung bean noodles with beef, the lemongrass chicken vermicelli noodle bowl, and the pineapple fried rice. read more

Decided to try this place with a buddy of mine. We ordered on the phone for pickup. After we picked it up and got back we took a look at our food and we're very underwhelmed. Our meals were $11 each but the amount of food appeared to be maybe worth $6. We were too hungry to take it back so we each dug in. My friend was underwhelmed and my meal was not totally cooked. I had to take mine to the microwave and add about a cup of water to finish cooking the noodles. It took 6 minutes to finish cooking my meal. The noodles were probably only blanched and still kinda crunchy. A cook with any experience would know that those noodles were not nearly done. I can't imagine they sat in hot water for more than 10 seconds. (Not exaggerating) There were literally 4 small pieces of chicken in each of our dishes. Similar restaurants would have had at least 3 times that amount. I wouldn't go here again ever unless they make some serious changes and announce those changes publicly. read more

Some of the best Thai & Vietnamese food in Charlottesville. The pho (served Saturday & Sunday only) is pho-nomenal. (sorry, I couldn't resist.) It has a really hearty and well-spiced broth, and comes in a perfectly sized portion. I like going to Lemongrass for lunch, mostly (though dinner is good too). I'm a fan of their noodle dishes (pad thai and pad see ew). And their appetizers are delightful, especially the papaya salad, tom yum, and tofu triangles. This was the first Thai place, nay, the first RESTAURANT I had tried in Charlottesville when I first arrived. My family and I ate there and we met the owner! A very nice woman who told us a little about her history and the place, and we ordered food. Overall, the food is pretty good. The servers ask you how hot you want the food to be on a scale of 1 to 10, but to be honest, I never really found the food to be that spicy even when I got a 10-level dish. Even so, I've tried a good amount of the dishes and all of them have tasted pretty good and I never disliked a dish. The décor of the restaurant is very pleasing and a nice place for group meals or a one-on-one meal (if you want to take anyone somewhere ;) ) They also sell Pho here on weekends from 12-5 which tastes okay. Came here for dinner with some friends and ordered the lemongrass chicken. The sauce on it is a blend of curry, which is pretty good with brown or white rice. I've been here several times and have also tried the pad thai and drunken noodles, both are delicious as well. You really can't go wrong with any of the items on the menu. Be careful with your choice of spicy intensity. It ranges from 1-10. I'm a big fan of spicy foods but usually get a 4 and sometimes a 5 if I'm adventurous enough. Anything above that I probably would have a hard time eating the dish, but it's all up to personal preference. Excellent service and highly recommended! read more

I was staying at a hotel right on The Corner while in Charlottesville for an interview and walking down W. Main St, all I saw was greasy American and Italian food. "Uh oh" I thought, until I turned on 14th Street and tucked next to a convenience store and a Subway I found Thai/Vietnamese food. I was really excited. I took the food to go to my lovely hotel room at the Red Roof Inn, but the atmosphere was nice. The servers were very nice and helpful and if I were local, this would definitely be a nice spot for a relaxed dinner with friends. Looking at the menu, I didn't see anything Vietnamese, this seems to be Thai food. But whatever, my first night I ordered beef green curry and spicy chilli shrimp, and my second night I was less gluttonous and came back for the shrimp. My food was ready super fast! About 5 minutes after ordering I received my Thai goodness. The food was very tasty. The green curry was a bit different than most Thai curries i've had -- thicker and richer, but very nice. I really liked the sauce that came with the shrimp. The most exciting thing is when I ordered an 8/10 on the spiciness scale, it came back spicy! Probably not as spicy as it should have been, but spicy enough to make it yummy. I may be white but I like some spice! My only complaint is the prices. For the quanity of food I got, it was definitely overpriced. $13 bought me 6 or 7 shrimp, some vegetables, and some (delectable) sauce. Overall, I've had good experiences at Lemongrass. Honestly no place can screw up an Americanized asian dish such as "golden chicken," so you're safe there. Lemongrass hasn't been my favorite in the past because their curry dishes have been mediocre. However, their fried rice and pad see eaw is very large and worth it. Now I always get their pas see eaw with tofu and it's the best I've had in Charlottesville so far. read more

Wow! Loved this place! Ordered the red curry- so good! It had almost a teriyaki grilled flavor. It was really tasty! Also ordered #47 Spicy Lemongrass Chicken - Sweet and just a touch spicy both were $11 each. The only thing I wish there were more veggies. I don't really understand the negative reviews on here. This has by far been my favorite restaurant in Charlottesville. I can't even count the number of times I have come here with friends. I've tried so many things here - sesame chicken, pad thai, fried rice, green/red/panang curry, spicy lemongrass chicken.. etc etc. It's all so freaking good! Prices are reasonable too. The only con is that the wait can be very long, especially on weekend nights, but of course that's because it's such a great place to go to. The pho here is pretty good. Best I've had in Cville so far but that doesn't say much because I've only had Moto Pho's pho which is pretty bad. My only complaint is that I wish they'd serve it during the week instead of only on Sundays and that the portions were a little more generous. Fried ice cream here is delicious. Right next door to Ni Hao, which is cheaper and more homely, but Lemongrass is more trendy and the place to go for a dinner date or if you're seeking to impress. Lunch is OK in terms of value-- the portions are kind of small though! I wouldn't eat here for dinner, simply because I think a lot of the dishes I can cook myself. The lady is enthusiastic and knows how to run a business, but she consciously caters to the "pop" side of Southeast cuisine, as opposed to cuisine with substance. This has always one of my favorite restaurants in CVille!! My go-to is the Pad Thai, but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. This place does get packed from time-to-time, but you can always order on the phone and take-out. You can customize the spiciness level of any dish, 1-10. This can be a bit misleading because some dishes are spicier to begin with, so each case will vary. If you love spicy food (like I do), a 10 will not be super spicy--but, you can always ask them to give you extra spices on the side. Highly recommend LG for anyone's visit to CVille!! read more
