Only send a family member who you hate and want inheritance from. My mother is in a life threatening situation right now. I literally begged them to send her to the hospital. She was in the reach unit. I threatened lawsuits, hotline and nursing board reports. They made her wait 4 days for a Doppler test which was ordered "stat", meanwhile I'm calling them multiple times a day about it. My mother calling me in tears. I have seen her cry less than 5 times in my life. That's just to start. I had to physically confront these people about turning her every 2 hours. I made a big fuss about it. The next day I call to ask about her leg (where they found a giant blood clot btw) and the nurse "Laura" asked me to clarify if I wanted her turned during the day as well. Are you fucking serious? She can't roll over on her own and them leaving her leg swollen and painful for days made it worse. Her reasoning was that she was up for meals. There's 4-5 hours between meals, Laura. There are fucked up nurses working there. Being a nurse I know exactly how much they denied her care. I'm 500 miles away. They told me if I was that concerned I could take her to the emergency room. I can't even take her to my car without mechanical assistance. No one could. They finally checked her blood flow and immediately sent her to the ER. Now I'm sitting here hoping she doesn't throw a clot to her brain, lung or heart. Lenoir Woods clearly will just let your loved one die, even as you beg for mercy and threaten them with a lawsuit. Can I move in? This place is better than college! We spent 4 days visiting my grandmother here and were extremely impressed. The amazing staff seems to really WANT to be working there, and it shows - they know residents by name and remember their preferences; they're also very friendly, offering hugs and physical contact as desired, which my grandma commented is much appreciated, as it's something commonly lost in old age. I was also impressed by the large, prominantly-posted sign listing the Residents' Bill of Rights, detailing the kind of treatment residents can and should expect (and what to do if they ever feel those rights are being violated). The food in the dining hall was good, with a wide range of daily options and outstanding desserts (both regular and sugar-free), which my grandmother blames for her putting on 10 pounds. She's now switched to watermelon for dessert, so being a good grandson, I had to eat the apple pie, carrot cake, and chocolate sundaes FOR her. It's a rough life... The facility offers a full spectrum of care, from independent cottages up through skilled nursing. A shuttle runs to popular stores and town locations 4 days a week, and a dizzying array of activities are offered every single day, including their own movie theater and Wii sports! They even have a large library with an Internet terminal. The grounds, buildings, and rooms are all beautiful and well-maintained. All that is great, but the single most important and telling thing about it is this: My grandmother is comfortable and happy there. What else really matters? read more

This review is for the REACH short term rehab facility at Lenoir Woods. My sister is doing her follow up care after knee surgery here. It's not the fanciest place in the world but when I have been there to visit, it has been clean and the staff were friendly. My sister has been well taken care of and is receiving physical and occupational therapy. read more

Dad went into Lenoir Woods REACH to rehab a broken neck - all the hospital personnel told us he was so lucky it wasn't more serious! He left Lenoir Woods in an ambulance after they overdosed him on percocet so he could tolerate more physical therapy. He was on 4 liters of oxygen going in, and came out needing an external ventilator set at 40 liters! His respiratory failure worsened over the next month and he died an agonizing death. The ER doctor told me he had been given percocet 20...way too much for a large healthy person, let alone a 145 lb COPD patient. Save your loved ones; choose a different facility, and avoid Dr Damascene Kurukulasuriya at all costs! read more

I am reviewing the nursing home part of Lenoir Woods. It is really sad that most people will tell you that this is the best nursing home in Columbia. My mom is living there and while some of the staff have been friendly and caring, the standards are very very low here. The expectations on the staff seem to be almost nonexistent as you will see them sitting around A LOT while there are residents with call lights on, or who just need routine care. The facility and the patients are not kept very clean. The house doctor does not come to see the patients when there is a problem, but relies on faxes from the nurses, who really never take the initiative to contact him unless I request it. They are nice and mostly kind, but not very good nurses as far as having any medical knowledge. It's scary, some of the things I've heard them say. I wish there was a better option in Columbia. This place is the ABSOLUTE WORST place you can take a loved one. They killed my dad. My father was sent to the Lenoir Wood REACH program for physical rehabilitation in March 2016. He was on the road to recovery until this place overdosed him on pain medication, Percocet. My father was a cancer survivor, after having a lobe of his lung removed to rid the cancer he used 2-4 liters of oxygen as needed. Percocet has many warnings for normal healthy breathing patients and is not recommended for patients with respiratory issues. My father was given 4 times the recommended dose for a healthy man. He left this place in an ambulance with respiratory failure. The staff of Lenoir denied the overdose to the ambulance staff causing them to reject giving him the needed Narcan medicine to immediately reverse the effects of the Percocet. When he was finally given Narcan in the ER it was too late to reverse the lasting damage to his lungs. He required 40 liters of oxygen after Lenoir overdosed him. His choice was to live out his life on life support oxygen or die a slow agonizing death by suffocation at home. We struggled to even get him home but he finally came home on Easter Sunday.
