When I heard a few weeks ago that Amtrak was coming through with an Inspection Train - and local commissioners and city representatives were involved - I knew that there'd be some sprucing up of this important landmark - and sprucing up there was. 100% of the exterior seems to boast of a fresh coat of paint. the large freight/baggage cart definitely got the once-over. It all looks very good. Once regular Amtrak passenger service resumes in TLH, I believe many of us will enjoy affordable and leisurely travel opportunities that can take us to the four corners of the continental U.S. (naturally, a "Transfer" would be in the cards). Here's to this landmark returning to its once given role!

Until 2005, it was a stop on Amtrak's Sunset Limited Line, that used to run to Jacksonville, Florida. However, Hurricane Katrina knocked out some of the tracks from New Orleans and, once the tracks were rebuilt, Amtrak had rerouted the actual cars to other lines, suspending service indefinitely from New Orleans to Jacksonville. However, many politicians and potential passengers have come out in support of restoring the Eastern Sunset Limited service. And, hopefully, the Tallahassee station will, once again, be in the business of handing Amtrak traffic soon.

I went in the other day to simply print one page from a document in an email. I didn't know where to start so I went to the info desk right as you walk in. There were three super eager, knowledgeable students there ready to help me. They told me I would need to put at least a dollar on a card to print. I told them I had no cash on me, but I had my debit card. They told me "no worries" and that it was .10 per page to print and handed me a card with .90 on it. Then the girl gave me verbal instructions about how to log in and print from their computers. She also told me to come back if I got stuck or had any other questions. I was able print my page without any difficulty because of their help! I also love that you can grab a Starbucks while you're in the library. So cool! I will explore other services offered here and write another review in the near future. Great experience!

Ever…read moresince freshman year, I've been coming here in my most stressful times whether it's cramming before an 8am test or rushing to submit an assignment due at midnight. I love using the whiteboards to organize my work plan for the day, and getting a Monster from the vending machine never hurts. Every time I'm on campus for the day, I use the microwave on the 1st floor to heat up my lunch. Be sure to bring headphones if you plan on working on the 1st or 2nd floor because it can get noisy, and if you're planning on coming during exam cram time good luck finding a seat. Strozier is one of my favorite parts of FSU!

First off I'm happy to report that the charges were dropped, I'm not a criminal and I ended up in this fine establishment because of nightmarish bureaucracy. The Ladies and Gents in Green are honest-to-god kind people. They processed me respectfully and politely. Never once did I feel claustrophobic or mistreated. I came in with my bail arranged, so it wasn't a long stay for me. A few hours. If you have to go to the bathroom, dear god hold it. The facilities are questionable. No offense guys, and I know it's jail but... The decor is oddly relaxing. Simple. Lots of steel and neutral tones. I was stuck in holding with a woman who wasn't quite at peace with being there as I was. At all. Oh my god. If it gets really bad they won't stop you from using the toilet paper to make origami. Also the toilet paper was 2-ply and even Disney can't boast that. ... I'm not saying I'd go back. I checked it off my bucket-list, I'm good. But if... BY CHANCE you find yourself on the wrong side of the law... Calm down. Keep your cool. The people here will take good care of you while they process you. Just be polite and understand the person in front of you is just doing his or her job.

Late March, 2025. The historic St. Marks Lighthouse, first constructed in 1830, is located roughly…read moreseven miles from the Visitors Center for the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. It's reached via slow-moving Lighthouse Road, on which people in cars or bicycles search for sightings of wildlife, including migratory birds, monarch butterflies, alligators, and more. While the lighthouse was closed to the public when we visited, it was still an interesting area to visit and to photograph. There are a few walking paths near the small parking lot, and visitors occasionally glimpse loggerhead sea turtles, West Indian manatees, and alligators offshore from the lighthouse. The ownership of the historic property was transferred in 2013 from the U.S. Coast Guard to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge "has completed a renovation to repair damages of time, termites, age, and weather. A replica 4th order Fresnel lens has been installed."

I was here in daytime so the light wasn't running but it was awesomely cool to see and experience. Construction started in 1829 and then it was moved inland in 1842 because of beach erosion. The adjoining building is not original, having been rebuilt a bunch of times for various reasons. The lighthouse played a part in the Civil War when it was destroyed in 1862. Rebuilt, it was again attacked by a Union landing party in July 1863 where they burned the steps and the interior woodwork. And again, in 1865, Union troops landed for a major raid that was planned to take the capital city, though they were repulsed at the Battle of Natural Bridge. The lighthouse was restored to service after the war and resumed the role of navigational aid. The Florida state capital has two primary buildings. The one directly facing the street is the old…read morestate capital Museum. It is free to enter the museum until 4:30 in the afternoon when it closes. Once you're inside, you were able to do a self guided for for each floor in each individual room. There is history about the architecture of the building, the indigenous people of Florida, presidential elections and how Florida has shaped them in the past, a section on how agricultural industry has changed FL overtime, and how politics in Florida have influenced America. Once you are finished at the old Capitol museum, you can walk behind to the second building, which is the current state capital. It stands 22 stories high with a more modern architectural design. What to pack Security on the bottom level you're free to roam at your leisure. Start behind the elevators at the tourism desk for a layout of the building. After exploring the fourth floor, where there are a few interactive exhibits, head to the fifth floor and look down into the fourth floor to the rotunda, and you will find tons of interesting facts etched into the marble below. Make sure your last stop of the building is the 22nd floor where there is an observation deck. The North you can see Georgia, on a clear day to the south you can see the Gulf of Mexico, into the west is a great view of Florida State University, football stadium, and campus.

I thought we might be able to find a parking space within a reasonable distance but that wasn't going to happen. We were able to snap a few photos in passing but somewhat disappointed that we weren't able to get up close. The original building is a beautiful piece of architecture but the administrative tower behind it not so much, I guess it's more about efficiency and in my opinion is nothing more than an eyesore. It would of been nice to have the modern structure located in another part of town to preserve the historic value of the original nostalgic building. Even trying to circle the block was a bit of a challenge today and a disappointment after driving here...
