He knew to put cucumber in the Hendricks Gin and Tonic ;) But the rest of the service was lacking, our table had all the plates from dinner just left taking up space for a long time. Eventually we moved it ourselves and handed them to the floor staff that came in to deliver someone elses food. The barman cleared the table of empty glasses whenever he got the chance, but it was fairly busy in the bar for him to clear all the glasses all of the time. I didn't eat here on this occasion, but the people I was with who did thought it was good food and reasonably priced. We came back the next day to eat, but there were no free tables. So I never got to try the food for myself. Another thing that annoyed me is how far away the ladies was, on the first floor and down a corridor. While the gents is a mere meter or two from the bar we were in. Typical old school planning. All in all I've experienced better, the decor and bartender made up for it.

Having stayed in many & varied cottages and houses both here in the UK, Spain & France I can confirm that we would, without hesitation, return to Alan & Christine's beautiful home. Stunning views, that I would never tire of, were a natural bonus that complimented the stylishly elegant and nautical themes running through Fairwinds. Two well appointed living rooms, two huge double bedrooms, a perfectly functional and well stocked kitchen, a great kids bedroom, a large bathroom & a landing that was a room in its own right so much space too little time! I spent many an hour sitting on the terrace with the every-changing Dart River and its constant stream of waterborne traffic as a backdrop who would have thought that from sunrise to sunset an estuary in Devon could deliver so much. The photos do not do justice to the setting or the house. The access (mentioned in other reviews) is not for the faint hearted but that said, I drive a large 44 and the resulting peace & lack of traffic noise is a small price to pay for having to fold the mirrors in to negotiate the narrow gap!!!

They obviously adore this house which is not only a bed and breakfast but also their home. The house is constantly undergoing redecoration by Sharon and Tim but this does nothing to detract from its appeal. The house has a relaxed informal atmosphere. A continental breakfast is served to your room each morning consisting of warm croissants and jam and very fine muesli and muffins. The house is on,y a stroll away from the main streets of Dartmouth and is superbly positioned for anyone visiting the town for the annual Royal Regatta. If you are looking for a few days to get away from it all I can highly recommend The Victorian House. Fabulous beds and a good night's sleep.

We had a wonderful view over looking rolling sheep filled hills towards Brixham Harbour. We were especially pleased with our wonderful breakfasts. Hosts , Graham and Kay were very helpful and gracious. Howard and Susie Means, Florida
