This library is small, but what do you expect from a library on an island? Franky, I'm surprised that there's even a library on Mackinac Island. But there is, and it has a nice selection of books, magazines and movies. There's also a small kids area, with toys, puzzles, puppets, a chess set and computers with kid-friendly software on it. In the middle of the library are some long tables to sit at, and there are a few comfy chairs situated around a fireplace. This is a cute and charming public library. Of course, the public is free to visit this library. Hours vary, I think, depending on the season.

I thought it was neat that they had memory trigger bags for those with Alzheimer's or Dementia, series sets to check out at once, audio books, and so much more. Even cake pans! You're also able to rent things on the app, and they make it easy to renew books virtually as well. And when I slipped up and forgot to renew, they let me know they don't collect late fees! They're an asset to the Soo community and I recommend everyone check them out and register for a library card.

Outta the corner of my eye, I spied this tiny little library (well, it was really because two chicks were getting off of moped they were sharing and they happened to be parked in front of said library). What a place!! Free internet! NO questions asked! By far the most stoned human being I've ever spoken to in my life!! I've seen people that appeared more shellacked, but this guy actually conversed with me for a second and he was dizzity-DIZZ-UN. While checking my email for the first time in a week (and seeing that some dude bought something from me on eBay the day I left and I wouldn't be shipping that for another couple days...whoops), I kept spying over dude's should to see what he was mumbling about. He youtubed methadone, methamphetamine, and oxycontin videos for the hour we were there. Why youtube people on the same drugs you're obviously on? My buddy suggested that they were probably his own videos and he was probably commenting on himself. Touche. Yep, so this library was sweet. Did the trick. Totally free. Everyone was cool. Except dude when he both bummed a cigarette and a lighter. And then asked us for a ride 'up the hill' even though the place is pretty effin' flat. And we had no room in the overstuffed-Jetta.

The staff is awesome, the woodwork on the floor, ceiling and bookshelves is gorgeous and they seem to be giving away books a lot or selling them for very cheap. The library is right off of Main Street and has been in this location over the pharmacy since the late 1800s. While visiting libraries isn't something we do often, there is something cool about visiting them even if you are from out of town. If you want to slow down your day hop in here and grab a book and enjoy the nice seating area they have with windows galore to take in the beautiful day in Harbor Springs.
