We didn't see mum, but the son and dad were super friendly. The food was everything you would expect for Sunday brunch. Nothing super fancy but we were certainly not disappointed. The only minor complaint was that they took ages to clear the tables.Their focus was on the customers that were already there rather than clearing the way for more. The server seated us without warning, and when we went to order, each item we requested had run out. No Cuban, no chicken melt, no several other delicious sounding things. She gave us 10 more minutes to look over the menu and come up with a plan B. Truthfully I wanted to jump ship, but couldn't because our drink orders were already in, and I was captain of this gastronomic journey. We'd set sail without proper forecasting! We settled on the baked egg and salmon bowl, neither what we were exactly craving. The baked egg was fairly tasty, a shakshouka-esque experience accompanied by rustic bread for hasty dipping. The salmon bowl was excellent, with delicious dressing, but the salmon portion was oh-so-meager. It made me wonder if the lunch rush had given the kitchen such a beating that they had split my salmon filet in half and served it to me and my neighboring table friend. They don't take reservations and it's popular so we hoped we wouldn't have to wait long. During our 24 minute wait they have a coffee urn at the entrance to the restaurant so we can help ourselves while we wait. What a fabulous idea!! We sat outside in the outdoor Adirondack chairs while we drank our coffee until seating opened up for us. This place was hopping, and it seemed like that was the way it was throughout our time there. As soon as we were seated the lovely server, Catherine, gave us menus and asked if we wanted more coffee. It was really difficult to chose what to order because everything looked delicious and made on the premises. Because I grew up in Montréal I had to have a traditional Québec meal of the "Cabane à Sucre" Omelette which consisted of an "omelette" (which had to be the lightest and most perfect little pillow, which we were told could be eaten with maple syrup poured into the center when you lift off the top); maple-smoked ham, "oreilles de crisse" (like bacon but very thickly sliced and crisped to perfection, complimented when dipped in their homemade tomato relish); homemade baked beans with chunks of smoked ham and sweetened with maple syrup; home fried potatoes, pure maple syrup and toast (I opted for their HUGE Cottage Bread slices). My nephew's wife had the Table d'ôte consisting of a generous slice of Québec Tortiére, smoked ham, homemade baked beans, home fried potatoes and mashed turnips (with carrots). Applicable to both of us was how we reacted to our meals. Upon each bite of our respective morsels, we slowly savoured the flavours and textures and sweetness as if it were the first time we'd ever tasted Québequois cuisine. It was heaven for our tongues. We made sure to give Catherine a nice tip for her amazing service and lighthearted attitude. On our way out (I had a doggie bag) we stopped at the counter to purchase their homemade Pea Soup to have for dinner. Tasty and light and prepared with very little salt. We had a mixed experience working with this company to plan our wedding at their Salon Richmond,…read moreand felt it was important to share. On the positive side, the space is stunning and the food was excellent - both were highlights for us. However, our experience on the planning side raised several concerns. Communication and expectations were unclear from the outset. We initially believed we would be working with one team member, but later learned that a different person would be managing our wedding, which was not clearly communicated and created confusion early on. Throughout the process, we found the planner's approach to be rigid and not particularly collaborative. We were open to guidance, but often felt that our preferences were dismissed in favor of doing things a specific way. During our tasting, for example, some of our menu selections (chosen directly from the venue's own offerings) were criticized as not being "classy" or "elegant," which felt inappropriate and unnecessarily condescending. There were also multiple instances that felt unprofessional, including meetings starting late and recurring interruptions during scheduled time together. We also encountered a significant issue regarding payment transparency for a vendor booked through the venue. A deposit we paid was invoiced as a payment toward the band, but was not fully applied as such, and this was not disclosed at the time of payment. The matter was only resolved after escalation. While it is clear that the team is capable of executing events, our experience did not reflect the level of professionalism, transparency, or care that is essential when planning a wedding. A wedding is not just another event, and the planning process requires a level of respect, communication, and client focus that we did not consistently experience here. Due to these concerns, we ultimately chose to move forward with a different venue, as we did not feel confident continuing with the planning process. Based on our experience, we would not recommend this venue for weddings. Couples should proceed with caution and ensure they have a clear, documented understanding of vendor payments, responsibilities, and expectations before committing!
