The Livraria Bertrand in Lisbon was founded in 1732, which makes it officially older than a few…read morethings including the United States, your grandma's grandma's recipe book, and probably the dust on its shelves. This place has been selling books longer than most countries have existed. You walk in and instantly feel smarter or at least older. The shelves are charmingly worn and the aisles are narrow. This is a living fossil with a checkout counter. Grab a book and soak in the centuries. And guys, the TikTokers haven't found the spot yet, somehow libraries aren't on their list of importance, so bring your selfie stick.

This store is great if you're looking for unique Portugal souvenirs. It goes beyond your typical…read moremagnets and keychains. They have blankets, clothing, books, and specialty food items. Some things are a bit overpriced but a lot of the specialty food items are pretty reasonable. Some were even cheaper than other stores, like the tinned sardines/cod. I ended up getting a few of those, as well as some Portuguese sea salt to give as gifts. It's a lovely store if you're looking for something nice to give to someone, without breaking the bank.

When I visited a store location I was told they had a poster online but not stocked in the store. So when I got home I ordered it online. The order unexpectedly took MONTHS, their customer service was very unresponsive to emails, and after I received the order it was an entirely DIFFERENT poster that I did NOT order and even the size was wrong. The order was a single product and it was fulfilled completely wrong. Customer service was very slow and unresponsive to assist, and only after almost going to my credit card company for a resolution did they refund my card but only PARTIALLY. To this day they have not clarified if the poster can still be ordered or when it would be available. It shows 'in stock' on the website, but the reason for the wrong shipment was supposedly because they don't actually have it in stock. All very confusing, all very disappointing and frustrating. I will not shop here ever again despite many of their products being quite compelling.
