Griendel - Small poutine with added smoked meat. Very good and filling.

In hindsight, and looking at the photos of others, I really should've eaten something here. I'd…read moretell you to do just that. Everything on everyone's tables looked good but it was a matter of timing; This was a beer stop only and for that too, Griendel, with its inviting outdoor seats and friendly staff was great. Outside of the area most tourists in Quebec City will discover, Griendel was very near my airbnb which - I believe - was in Saint-Sauveur. There's a few blocks of cafes and shops in this neighborhood and I discovered them days before realizing that Saint-Roch, with its onslaught of cafes and shops, was down the same road only a short walk away. Regardless, this seemed like a place the hip young locals love and I could get behind what they were offering. A wide array of craft beer was offered and though I'm generally not much of a beer fan, I really got into the one I chose: Blanche au Citron Meyer et aux Poivres (aka #Patelle, 4.8% alcohol). I don't know French but correctly deduced that this beer contained Meyer Lemon and on a humid, hot afternoon that was enough to sell me. IPAs also received high marks. Come for the beer but if you stay for the food I doubt it'll disappoint.

We thought the beer selection was very good and the food selection just has good. Then we ordered the small poutine with the added smoked meat, which was very delicious. It was enough to comfortably fill us up but still leave room for plenty of the good beer here.

Authentic French comfort food alert! This place serves the most genuine Breton crepes I've ever…read morehad. La Billig is absolutely top-tier. All crepes are freshly cooked on traditional billig iron griddles, available in both savory and sweet flavors. I tried the duck confit with goat cheese, and it was incredible. The duck meat is tender and juicy, paired perfectly with crispy yet soft buckwheat crepe crust. Caramelized onions blend smoothly with rich cheese, bringing out such a savory and satisfying taste. Pair it with local cider or fresh Guinness draft beer, and your taste buds will be totally satisfied. A well-loved spot on Rue Saint-Jean in Old Quebec. Expect a short wait on weekends. After your brunch, you can easily wander around nearby bookstores and vintage shops for a nice stroll. Rating: 5/5

The meal was mostly a hit with the shredded duck savory crepes a big hit. The French Onion soup was also very delicious! I did debate whether to try the dessert versions but ultimately stuck with the savory. The only miss was the La Cannoise, with ricotta, spinach, olives, tomato sauce, egg and pesto which was not a hit. Just a weird combination of flavors that I guess I don't find mesh well, this dish was mostly left behind. Service was really friendly and helpful.

Succulent and juicy. Fantastic real french fried potatoes. Extensive beer and micro brew list and also a full bar and wines by the bottle. Very fun ambiance with an old school student like feel. Took me back. Not expensive for excellent quality food. Lep is a wonderful server and deserves a bigger shoutout. Close to Laval University and not touristy. Enjoyed the experience.

Le Sacrement has so much potential(!!!), but totally misses the mark. I don't know what happened…read moresince the previous yelpers ate here, but a four star review this is not: Ok, so as I understand it a bistropub is supposed to focus on good food and good drinks... Right? Well, at Le Sacrement that's not quite the case; the beer list is extensive, but the food sucks. There's also something about a sticky table that doesn't quite say "bistro dining". DO NOT order a burger here - it tastes like shoe leather and I would be shocked to learn it wasn't frozen and premade by a wholesaler. My boyfriend literally said, "if I wanted to eat a burnt burger from Costco, I could have done it at home". The people next to us had the ribs and the salmon tartar - the ribs were also probably ordered in from a wholesaler (they looked so dry and sticky) and the tartar plate was measly for the price charged. To be blunt, I won't be coming back and would recommend you don't waste your hard-earned money here either - unless you're in need of a few pints and a meatpuck before heading to the rink behind the restaurant.
