    gyoza, light wrappers but greasy
    Elaine T.

Les Pates Vivantes is one of the more well known Chinese restaurants in Paris, with a window onto the street showcasing how they hand pull their noodles. Tucked in an area near Les Halles, they attract as many tourists as locals, with menus ranging from about 10-15 Euros for combinations of stir fried or soup noodles with gyzoas. I chose the vegetable noodles, which were springy and fresh, but greasy (you can see the pool of oil on my plate on the right side of the photo), and the vegetables were only green onions and wood mushrooms. Even with some hot chili oil borrowed from a nearby table, I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Service was typically brisk, geared more for fast turn over than a leisurely meal, as is typical for touristy locations. The gyoza came out after my noodles and were tender, but also oily. I went back for another try, ordering cold noodles with duck which I thought might at least circumvent the oily tendency. The noodles and raw onions were bathed in a peanut/sesame sauce that left me as cold as the dish. The duck was good and a generous portion, so I would recommend ordering a separate side plate of duck and maybe some noodle soup.

If you like noodles, this place is amazing for fresh hand-pulled noodles. This is a pretty popular place, but it's fairly large (for a French restaurant) and the turnover is pretty quick as they don't really let you leisurely take your time like most other French establishments. If you come during peak hours, you'll most likely have to wait in line outside, but we came at 10 pm on a Saturday and we didn't wait more than 10 min or so. They have a giant window where you can see the ladies hand-pulling the noodles and making them fresh, which is pretty cool to watch. They work super fast and the noodles are chewy, al-dente and super fresh when you eat them. The menu is in French and English and has pictures of each of the dishes, so it should be pretty easy to order. Gyozas - These were awesome - perfectly golden brown, served piping hot. The skin was thin and fresh. I could have eaten a ton of these. Extra Spicy Beef Soup - They were unfortunately out of the Spicy Beef Noodle soup which is one of their more popular ones - next time we'll have to come earlier to get this. We got the extra spicy beef noodle soup, which was not for the faint of heart. We couldn't really drink any of the broth because it was way too spicy. We ate the noodles which were delicious. The beef in here was also pretty inedible - super chewy and kind of like a bubble-gum texture where you couldn't chew it. We left all the meat. Pan-Fried Noodles with Duck - The noodles were perfect and chewy, the sauce was great and not too salty, but the meat was also inedible. I've not really had a bad piece of duck in France yet, until this place. The wine here was terrible and acidic. Again, never had bad wine in France until this place. Skip the wine, it's cheap in price, and cheap in quality. Despite the meat not being good in either of the dishes, and the wine also being pretty bad, we loved the noodles. They were the freshest and best Chinese noodles I've had in my life. I'll definitely come back here again for more noodle dishes. We decided that next time, we'll get the noodles and vegetables or maybe noodles and seafood. Overall, a great little spot that is inexpensive and will have you craving these fresh noodles forever.

Good food with a very authentic flare. The place is small on the inside with some tables outside. Each entree is definitely enough for one person.

Number one fan! Best noodles ever :)

Best noodles ever eaten - all of us (4) Aussies agree! Only in Paris one week and will be back to eat here before we leave. Wow. We tried the stir fry duck noodle and it was amazing. Duck was crisp on outside tender inside. Noodles defy words to explain but they transported us to another (very good food) place. We were helped by the waiter/apprentice noodle chef in our selections and his suggestions were fantastic. Thank you all!

This place was amazing! They make noodles from scratch. I got the beef and noodles...it was very good!

Super tasty hand made noodles. Go for pan fried noodles and not noodles with broth. The dumplings in this place are also quite tasty.

It's a small restaurant in Montparnasse, and we fortunately were able to walk right in for an early dinner. They had to pull a table back so we could scoot into a corner booth. The menu is extensive and includes wontons (raviolis), soups, and noodle dishes. Everything looked amazing and the restaurant smelled so good. We ordered the wontons as an appetizer, soup Lamen with beef, soup with shrimp dumplings, lamen with pork and Lamen with beef. We only waited about 8 minutes and steaming hot food was placed in front of us. Our entrees made it out before our appetizer but we didn't mind. Portions were very large and the noodles were chewy, fresh and delicious. We loved every item we ordered. We came back later in the trip to order takeout since the line for tables was so long. If you're in Paris, this is a must try!

The waiter allowed some to enter and then asked if anyone had reservations due to limited seating. No one spoke up so he seated the rest of us. He was fair in how he handled the orders once we were seated, and asked in order of who entered first. I had their cascade petit for €38 and it came with 4 tiers. We were able to customize each layer and we chose steamed buns for the top layer, pork intestines for the second, grilled meat for the third, and this sour vegetable and fish broth for the last. We grilled our own meat and ordered some additional hot pot items for the last layer. The soup is actually tasty but gets tiring when you have a large amount of it. The only problem is the wait, even if you call in advance, you'll have to wait; and even after you're seated, you'll have to wait for the food. The place is super super crowded, and super busy. The waiters are patient although they can't keep track of things and forget you orders (Just remind them, they're nice). It's not a good place for groups since it's really small.
