We limped into Lunar Cycles on the flat tire and the guys took care of us right away. Wheelchair inner tubes are slightly different from bicycle inner tubes but they had the correct tube to replace the bad one. They cleaned up the bad tire, taped the inside of the wheel, and installed a new inner tube. Then they disassembled the other tire and taped it up as well. They had a lot of work going on (it's a busy little shop) but they bumped her to the front of the queue, got us fixed up, and on our way in no time. A million thanks to Peter and crew for saving our trip!
I'd been toying with the idea of getting an electrician Brompton for a while (these London hills…read moreare killing me ;-) but it wasn't until I talked to Hanry from Lunar Cycles that I committed to this idea. You see, I'm an avid cycle user (I'm avoiding the term cyclist as I'm not the spandex wearing kind) yet when it comes to bike maintenance, I'm a total dud. Case in point: I cycled 3000km from northern Germany to the heel of Italy and yet I still don't know how to fix a flat. And so I need a bike shop that I can pop into for any minor issue...like a flat or even lubricating the chain. The moment I sat foot into Lunar Cycles, I knew I was in good and judgement free hands. My experience thus far has been exactly as I'd hoped for: everyone I've encountered has been super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Big shoutout to Hanry, Nick and Leo who've all made my Brompton maiden voyage a breeze! Side note: While they are a specialized Brompton dealer and repair shop, you can bring any kind of bike to them and they'll fix it for you.

I think so! it's a sickness. It therefore stands to reason that I am pathologically unable to even pass a bike shop without darting in and combing through every aisle like someone auditioning for Supermarket Sweep. I was 'up west' for a change. On the assumption that all West London residents drive Range Rovers I was pleasantly surprised by Cyclopolis, a small but perfectly formed 'half bike shop, half workshop' in Balham. So was it better than the inimitable 14 bike co, you might ask? Clearly not; but it's great for when you want a little splash of quality and style in amongst all the usual practical items. Like decent Kevlar tyres. A respectable range of Brooks saddles. More Abus products than you'd imagine in one place. Very well stocked indeed. they also do the bike to work scheme, if you are as scarred by Evans as I am. Oh, and there's stuff for your kids if you want to get them hooked too. It's more of a shop for people who ride Pashleys or off road, but they know what to do with fixed gear and single speed lovers too. No, and I don't mean slapping them.

I stood there for 10 minutes, ignored by both staff. One of them was just reading his computer screen and didn't bother looking up, the other didn't acknowledge me until he had finished with the customer. When I was finally seen they were worse than useless. Didn't have any advice, said they didn't have much in. The second time I went in the bloke tried to push a second-hand bike on me for £300. Once, I would have forgotten it but this happened both times I went in. I felt like I'd been treated with contempt & totally unvalued. It's a joke of a shop & I won't be going back.

Personally I think it is a great little shop, but then I do cycle round in ripped shorts and 3 year old trainers - on a bike that only gets washed by the rain. Their target market is firmly families and leisure cyclists, which is not surprising given the local area, but they do stock some serious kit too. I've used them in the past for quite a few repairs, and they have always been helpful, cheap, and fast. UPDATE***** Thought I'd update my review to let people know that Sidcup Cycles has a Saturday morning ride starting at 8.30 split into different levels of ability (something to suit everyone). I went out with them and they are fantastically friendly, even to the point that one of the guys came back for me when I got lost. I'd highly recommend both the shop and the ride - i'll be back !
