Based on the lack of amenities and maintenance, this campground probably deserves at most a 3-star rating. There are porta-potties and trash cans, but both are equally overflowing and disgusting. Don't even bother. If you need to clean up and don't have the means, the Toaster House Hostel is nearby, which I believe is free.
There is a 3-day camping limit here, but it's adjacent to BLM land, which allows up to a 14-day stay. Combined, there is 75 acres of land on which you can camp for nothing at all. It's FREE! And there is just so much space! You can park your rig/tent/whatever nearly literally anywhere you can fit in. That's what bumps it up to 4 stars for me.
It's a great spot to rest for a night or two and it's also where they hold the Pie Town Festival every year. Get some pie while you're here! The New Mexican Apple Pie is super fun. read more
