    a container of french fries

If I could rate this place a ZERO, I would ... I aqaordered the ham and cheese sandwich, which was supposed to have lettuce and swiss cheese... it had ham and mayo only. It was like $15! The fries was $6 and barely covered the bottom of the container, and were overdone, quite brown. I mentioned these things to the attendant and he said the sandwich came from the company that way, and that is the portion size... any issue I had, he had no apology, but some excuse... thefood was terrible!! Bread stale, fries over done, he refused to heat my sandwich was damn near frozen. The attendant was pretty unprofessional ... I only suffered through this ordeal because the place was right next to my gate and boarding was in 15 mins. If I had time I would have just cut my losses and gone elsewhere.

Late afternoon at the airport, was running out of options for food as places were closing up (but why?). Thankfully this outpost was still open and did not have a long line either. Unfortunately the grill was down for the day (why), so they only really had fries, poutine, or the smoked meat sandwich. Settled on the Poutine ($14) - a giant bowl of fresh fries, gravy, curds, and chopped meat. Fries are cooked well and the meat had flavor; gravy and curds weren't as fresh (though it is airline food). Glad this place decided to stay open, since there wasn't much else around on a Sunday. Hopefully get to visit their actual location at some point.

    Smoked Meat Sandwich - $11.95

For those that miss out on Schwartz, Lester's Deli Express is an airport option that offers an opportunity to try both the Montreal dishes of smoked meat sandwich or poutine. Be warned though, this is an airport location and Lester's is nowhere as near an institution as Schwartz and there's a reason why. My order: Smoked Meat Sandwich - $11.95. I opted for the sandwich only and added a deli pickle and it was close to the meal price that included both the pickle and French fries. While 7 ounces of meat is served and the presentation is similar to Schwartz (overfilled sandwich with small pieces of rye bread) the truth is in the meat quality. While Schwartz was a heavenly mix of Pastrami and beefy smoked meat, Lester's deli tasted like a cross between smoked meat and low grade baloney. If you don't have time to go to the real thing, this is (sadly) one of Montreal Airport's passable eateries but don't expect a divine experience. Lester's accepts credit cards including Amex.

I should have stayed away from this, I didn't think it would be that big. About the size of 3 extra large orders of fries, covered with a cup of smoked meat, a cup of mozzarella, and a 2 cups of gravy. Good, but I always have to clean off my plate. The smoked meat and gravy was good, next time I will get the smoked meat sandwich without the fries (and gravy) $20.38 CAD. Yes I ate it all

The smoked meat sandwich came out hot, with fresh warm bread, and all I needed was a little yellow mustard.

Amazing food, service , and ambiance…read more A visit to Montreal isn't complete without a stop at Schwartz's Deli. The smoked meat sandwich absolutely lived up to the hype. The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, piled high between fresh rye bread with just the right amount of mustard. The atmosphere is classic, authentic, and full of history. Even with the line outside, the service was efficient and friendly, and the food was worth every minute of the wait. The pickle and fries were the perfect sides to complement the rich smoked meat. You can tell why this place has become a Montreal institution. Simple menu, legendary food, and an experience that feels uniquely local. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Montreal.

We walked into a space that is small, constantly packed, and built around fast turnover rather than comfort, with people lining up at the counter while orders get called out across a loud, crowded room. The energy hit us right away, and it felt more like stepping into a system that has been running the same way for decades rather than a modern restaurant experience. The smoked meat sandwich is the main reason to come here, and it delivers in a very direct, no-frills way. We ordered one and found the meat thick, heavily seasoned, and with a deep smoky flavor that came through right away. The texture stood out most, tender but still structured enough to hold its bite, especially when stacked on rye bread with mustard. It is simple in concept but feels complete in execution, with nothing on the plate trying to distract from the main item. The sides like pickles, coleslaw, and fries felt more supportive than essential. We tried the poutine and found it solid and filling, but it clearly sat in the background compared to the smoked meat sandwich. Everything on the menu seemed centered around that one item, and the rest of the food reinforced that focus rather than expanding it into a wider dining experience. Seating is communal and tightly packed, which added to the overall intensity of the place. It was common to share tables with strangers, and there was very little personal space once we sat down. The noise level stayed high the entire time, but the service was quick, so the pace of the meal kept things moving even when it felt crowded. Schwartz's Deli feels like a Montreal institution defined by its simplicity and consistency. It is not a comfortable sit-down meal, but the smoked meat sandwich is strong enough to make the entire experience worth it, especially if you are there for what it is known for rather than the setting around it.

He seated us in the booth and got our little children settled in with coloring material. He was so gentle spoken with our children, and for that matter, the entire staff was! Our family felt welcomed and not a bother. You would be surprised at how few places make us feel this way, even though our children are calm little beings. Ok, now... to the food! When I hear brisket, I think of Texas styled BBQ, this brisket is different, this is a deli style brisket, think Reuben Sandwiches. The brisket was sliced so thin and was juicy, it was delicious! Our kids had kids meals and in their opinion, the best part was the ice cream at the end . I highly recommend eating here! The staff is friendly, the food is great and overall, just a comfortable place to be! Tip the staff well, trust me, by the time the bill arrives you will already have experienced their top notch service. I don't have pictures to share because we were hungry and ate everything up before I could remember to snap some photos!

Fastest service ever!…read more I think they were in a hurry to close LOL. I ordered 2 Wilensky specials, one with cheddar and the other with swiss. Literally between the time I handed over my money and the cashier turned around to make change from the register behind her, my order was ready and bagged in front of me before I got my change back. I had nothing else to do but walk out and find a place to eat. I was literally in the store for less than 2 minutes! Now the Wilensky is salami, bologna, and your choice of cheese on a roll (that reminds me of an english muffin) with yellow mustard. Simple but absolutely delicious! I've had bologna sandwiches before but never thought to add salami which adds a little spice. That bun was super pillowy and just eased right on down after taking a bite. I generally hate yellow mustard but this wasn't overbearing smear. Each Wilensky was like $5 each and incredibly satisfying. The first steps through the door, it was as if I time travelled directly to 1930s, old weird looking slender poles with round wooden seats, wood cabinetry, and short countertops. The old school was transferred to payments as the prefer cash and accepts Canadian form of debit cards but not American. There are signs basically to say, your way doesn't count. If you order a Wilensky special, it's their way and I'm ok with that. Because their way works! There's also another sign to say no tipping and any money leftover after settling the bill goes to charity, how wonderfully generous that is. Regarding the promptness of my food, I did show up 10 minutes before closing and the prompt service was expected as everyone has places to be and places to go after work. I totally enjoyed the no nonsense effort.
