We were staying in Oakhurst with some friends over the weekend. After spending a long day in Yosemite Valley the previous day, I wanted to do some more hiking and found this trail less than 10 minutes away. I started at the trailhead near Corlieu Falls, went north towards Red Rock Falls. It was a beautiful hike with some varied terrain going slightly uphill for parts of it. The fall foliage was beautiful, and it was nice to hear the running water all along the way. There is occasional highway noise since this runs parallel to the main road, but I didn't mind it. Went at 730a and didn't see another person for about two hours. Red Rock Falls was peaceful and beautiful. I crossed the stream a bit clumsily and ended up with wet feet, but it was worth it for the photos. I made my way back. Corlieu Falls had a good amount of debris around it, including part of a bridge. Round trip was less than 4 miles, and I got back in time for brunch. read more

A nice and easy walk but make sure to bring water and sunscreen because it gets HOT and there are a lot of areas on this trail that are not shaded so you're just getting beat down by the hot sun. Unfortunately, we had two small kids with us in tow so we didn't make it too far on the trail but I hear there are some nice waterfalls as a visual treat if you finish the trail. The trail itself had some slopes and elevations but nothing too crazy. There isn't a lot of parking available in the designated lot - we were lucky to grab a spot as someone was leaving right when we pulled up, otherwise I don't know where one would park to easily get to the trail head. read more

We wanted to go recharge at this Beautiful trail. I saw on one of my readings that negative ions release calming forces and help us de-stress. Every time I go to the mountains or the beach I feel relaxed. We walked 4 miles but just because we went far ahead of the little Red Rock water fall. We broke out record of walking. The feeling you end up with is amazing. Being there and breathing clean air and listening to the bird singing pretty amazing. I really recommend this trail. Pretty Beautiful place. We found this trail on our last day in the area. We didn't want to drive back into Yosemite and the hotel staff told us we could find waterfalls here. Parking is available on site. The parking lot is small and not paved, but there are tress you can park under for shade. The trail is not very difficult, but I did walk it with two ladies that never exercise and they were struggling. They did have to stop several times to take a breather. The trail starts out flat, but then starts going uphill pretty quick. There are long stretches where there's no shade. Be prepared with water since there's nowhere to refill. We only made it to the smaller, first waterfall. We were able to sit with our feet in the water for a while. There wasn't many foot traffic. We probably saw a handful of people on the trail. Overall, I would recommend this trail. Just be prepared with sunblock, hat and water. read more

Took the family to this trail ages ranging from 3 to 40 the hike is just the right distance at 3.7 miles. There are some fallen trees to climb over and a couple steep parts but other wise a fairly easy trail definitely don't go by your self. read more

As of July 27,2023 , the narrow trail down to the falls is dry and slippery. But the plus side is water is going hard. Water is clear you can see the rocks on the bottom. Beautiful, dog friendly hiking trail. The trail is well maintained and the incline is totally doable for beginners. Hiking boots are still recommended due to mud and snow. If you are bringing your pup, be sure to use tick treatment... there are TONS out there. Other than that, enjoy and take plenty of pictures. read more

There are multiple beautiful waterfalls here. Shallow water very safe to take dips with adult supervision once you get to the water. Trail is decent but have some steeper points. This trail was beautiful and dog friendly. I started at the parking lot off of 41. There's a dirt parking lot and a sign telling you where to get on the trail. I have heard of at least two entrances to this trail, the one on 41 and the one off of Cedar Valley Dr. There is also another trail that dumps onto this one that someone told me you can enter at Tenaya Lodge but I have not confirmed that. The trail from 41 is pretty short but STEEP! My husband has a bad knee and it would be extremely difficult for him to get back up the trail to the car. If you are in pretty good shape, no problem. Very NOT stroller friendly. The trail off of Cedar Valley is longer but not as treacherous and is covered by a beautiful tree canopy so there is a lot of shade. The falls were well worth the hike and my pooch got to play in the water for a bit (after not being allowed on any of the trails in Yosemite we tried to hike). There were warning signs for mountain lions but we didn't see any. I would be cautious hiking alone on this trail though as there are not many other people on it. If anything happened, you could be alone there for a while. I look forward to coming back next spring when the water is funning more! read more

This was a really cool hike! I was worried because I went with my family (young siblings age 7 &9), and I wasn't sure if they would be able to handle it. THANKFULLY they loved it. It was very easy and we saw no mountain lions! The waterfall was also very pretty and the water was fresh to touch. 10/10 recommend if you're in the area. As always, I recommend doing everything with caution. Our main goal was to get to the top of the waterfall? Underneath the waterfall? Wait. Lol There are different levels for the waterfall, so that gets a bit confusing. But we underneath the main waterfall. The water is nice and cold; clear. Follow the signs & all the advice below. Turn right ! Lol it wasn't too hard to find. The hike is reflectively short but it was a B coming back up. I wouldn't bring kids down to the falls because you are basically climbing down. There aren't any stairs. The second time I was there someone did add some ropes you can use to help get down. read more

The Lewis Creek Trail was an easy hike. My wife, her friend, our little dog, and I went on a Sunday morning. The friend and I had run a half marathon the day before. We needed an activity the pup could participate in, before driving back to the Bay Area. This looked promising. It fit the bill. There were a few others out in the trail. But it was not too crowded. The attraction you head toward is a waterfall. We wondered about the distance. You could use apps such as All Trails. That is for more advanced outdoors people. I consult it sometimes. But I rely on Yelp. So this is what I will offer to be useful. From the parking lot, the south trailhead, it was about a mile and a quarter to the vista point. It is worthwhile. You need to be aware, however, that the last bit is steep. For a casual non hiker, someone who is not accustomed to any exertion, this would be significant. For anyone who engages in this recreation with any experience, this is not technical and not challenging. My wife sat by the water, relaxing with canine company. A more stout young lady with the group behind us, told it was another ten minutes to go (we were coming back), remarked it would be the longest ten minutes of her life. Round trip at a leisurely pace, it would be 2.5 miles and 45 minutes. I regarded it as a nice finish to the weekend. read more

Our original plan of Nevada Falls hike was cancelled due to Ferguson fire so we went with our plan B, Lewis Creek Trail. Definitely not disappointed even though it was short. It's an easy hike option and very well suited for kids and families. This place was gorgeous with trees that provided plenty of shade and it wasn't too hard of a hike, although just be wary on warmer days it'll still be difficult if you don't bring enough water because you'll be sweating balls and dehydrate. There's two parking lots, one on the upper hills and one down hill of the 41, 4 miles total if you did the entire stretch of the hike. We ended up only doing the shorter one to Corlieu Falls from the lower parking lot then back (2.5ish mile hike). In between are full of beautiful spots to take photos too. I loved that the midway spot where Corlieu falls is, there's an observation deck that you can sit and relax at to catch your breath. Make sure to take some photos! read more

My goddd!!! The frustration to finding this trail was real!!! Lol. GPS took me to 4 different places which led to nowhere. I read the comments after realizing I was never gonna find it on my own. It's true!! Turn on Cedar Valley Rd! It'll take you directly to it. It was sooo worth it. The hike was easy and the views were amazing. I took my younger siblings and they enjoyed it! The waterfalls were beautiful! I lived in the central coast before so the hiking scenery was slightly different as I used to hike 4 times a week living there. But I was not disappointed!! Luckily Waze knew how to lead us to the trailhead for this hike. Unfortunately Yelp's map didn't work for us. Once we got there, we did see a well-marked parking lot on the east side of 41, with signs saying Lewis Creek Trail. And the mountain lion sign too, although no actual mountain lions were spotted :). We went down a pretty easy to follow path with a lot of cut in steps that lead us to a very pretty waterfall, which I assume is Corlieu Falls. It is kid friendly and fine for anyone who can handle about a dozen flights of stairs. One star off for being a little crowded with some more signage and trail clean-up needed. read more

Lots of confusion about the trailhead and currently lots of logging with many trees down across the trail. The Yelp directions do not seem to be accurate. They sent us to a privately owned subdivision. After following the advice of previous posts, I did find a trail off of Cedar Valley Road with the mountain lion warning. read more

This is an amazing hike not too far away from Clovis/Fresno. Dogs are allowed as long as they are on leashes! This is a great hike to do with friends and family. We saw a bunch of little ones hiking and they didn't seem to have a hard time. I would highly recommend going. read more

Great trail, especially for how easy the hike was! To start off with, the trail does not have a very good trail head sign (none in cod see) but it starts directly across the street from the small dirt parking lot. It took us about 20 minutes to hike to the falls, and they were awesome! Such a beautiful sight. The water was also amazing, it felt great to jump in the pool at the base of the waterfall after the hike in 95 degrees. Definitely recommend! read more

This a great hike. Terrain could be a little steep in some areas but overall not to bad as there were kids maybe as young as 5-6 yrs old on the trail when I was there. Suggest coming earlier than later due to limited parking during the peak season and it could get hot but the view of the mini waterfalls, lots of butterflies, and creek is so worth it. You can bring lunch and sit by the Creek or waterfall and enjoy it. The temperature of the water was nice and cold after hiking the trail. If you have short legs like me, it helps a lot if you have a walking sticks as some steps in the trail are quite high (like maybe almost a foot). I would hike this trail again! read more

Lewis Creek Trail is a 5.5 mile moderate round trip hike located near Oakhurst, CA, just 40 minutes of drive from Fresno. The trail contains two waterfalls: Corlieu Falls and Red Rock Falls. The creek runs right along the trail. In my opinion, it is a moderate hike with 1100 ft of elevation gain throughout the hike. There are multiple areas to sit by the creek and relax. Direction: Don't follow the GPS or Google address, you'll be taken elsewhere. The more popular entrance is on Cedar Valley Dr. You can look that up. However, an easier and better entrance is on I-41. When you pass the I-41/I-49 intersection, continue up for about 6-7 miles. You'll see a small parking area for the trail on the right. Be on the lookout or you'll miss it! Atmosphere: There are mountain lion warnings at the entrance, but you'll probably be ok since the trails are still near the roads/houses. Pretty relaxing. Trees surround you, giving good shade. Both falls are pretty, but Corlieu is more breathtaking, since you can see the whole thing from a good angle. Difficulty: Easy (red rock) & Medium/hard (corlieu) Trail(s): From the I-41 entrance, you can turn right on the trail to get to Corlieu Falls (~.5 miles round trip). Turn left on the trail and you go to Red Rock Falls (~3 miles round trip). From the Cedar Valley entrance, you start at the bottom and trail up about a mile to get to Corlieu. This way can be difficult due to the many logs that become obstacles in your way and the straining elevation change. Once you pass Corlieu and continue up towards Red Rock, the trail is definitely easier. You'll have to cross over a log, over the river, really soon into the trail. Once you get to the top of Red Rock, turn left and go down a small path to the fall. If you miss it and continue up, you'll just keep going on the trail. Not sure where it leads to though. Overall: Corlieu Falls beat Red Rock Falls, but hiking once here is enough for me. read more
