This was the BEST experience and I highly recommend! We could tell the horses are well taken care of, respected and trained. Chloe took us on our ride and she was so friendly and knowledgeable. She made our ride so fun hopefully when we go again, we would want Chloe on our ride!

I cannot thank Yosemite Trails Horseback Adventures for the incredible experience and memories I will never forget. I had a camping trip to Yosemite National Park planned in September and knew I wanted to propose to my Fiancé while on the trip and didn't know exactly how I would plan this. We are avid outdoor/hikers and love horses. When I found Yosemite Trails Horseback Adventures, I knew that this was the PERFECT place for me to propose to the love of my life. I wasn't quite sure how the proposal would go down to begin with, but Cami and the entire team made the experience unbelievable. I felt like part of the family and cannot thank them enough. They scouted out various different locations along the route for the spot prior to my arrival and communicated with me every step of the way. Jolene found the location on the trail, and was our guide. We did a private trial ride as I wanted the experience to be intimate. Jolene was INCREDIBLE and we cannot thank her enough. She was an expert guide and made the entire experience a memory we will never forget. Jolene took pictures for us and planned the entire proposal location, she was fantastic in every regard. The horses were beautiful and looked extremely well taken care off and loved. The trail ride itself was the best we have been on, and we have done quite a few. It was beautiful, fun going through the creeks and riding up/down the mountainsides. We cannot thank Cami, Jolene and the entire Yosemite Trails Horseback Adventure Team for the memory and experience of a lifetime, and we cannot wait to do it again!

To get there, the turnoff road is near Tenaya Lodge by the yellow cottages. When you head out toward Yosemite Trails, you will drive quite a ways on a narrow dirt road. Just keep going, you will eventually see the area of the corral on your right. These people are EXPERTS! They are organized, professional, and have truly streamlined this operation in dealing with a large amount of riders. All your paperwork is taken care of before you mount your horse. The entire group will have a practice in the corral BEFORE heading out on the trail. It is also the time where they check EVERY SINGLE rider for saddle & stirrup fittings. Riding these well trained horses, through woods and stream, is a memorable experience! You do not have to be an experienced rider as they will teach you everything you need to know. All ages young & old rode successfully. I would feel very confident in letting children participate in this. Throughout the trail I watched those in charge, graciously communicate in a variety of situations. I was impressed. From here, you are about 20 minutes to the Wawona hotel. Highly recommended!

Booked this very last minute and it was my first time horseback riding. Went on November 11th. My horse was Ollie and Ollie was amazing. My instructor/lead, Amy I believe was her name, was very kind and helpful to everyone in the group. Very knowledgeable of the trail and gave very helpful advice. What I can say, it's definitely a fun experience. All the staff were actually very lovely and friendly. I was originally worried about falling off or it being awkward since I went alone. The staff did a great job at explaining and walking us through how to stop and turn and such. But they were also funny and inclusive during the experience. Worst part was the 1 mile drive going towards the parking area because I needed reassurance that I was going the right way as didn't see anymore signage of business name until I reached the location. Besides that it was worth it !

    Bingo was his name-o!

Booked a last minute trip to Yosemite/Bass Lake and couldn't resist a horseback ride. It's been a few years since I've ridden and while I'm more comfortable in English tack, my horse (Bingo) was very surefooted and confident on the trail. He was blessed with speed but unfortunately we weren't able to take advantage of that- most trail rides are kept to walking speed and don't allow for trot/canter. When checking in, you are. Required to wear a helmet and are provided with a bandana to combat smoke/dust. Take the bandana (or bring your own) as the trails are super dusty- even if you are lead horse behind the guide. While the horses seemed- for lack of a better word- bored, it was very refreshing to be on a trail ride where the horses were not barn sour! I'll keep this place in mind for future visits to the area.

I was running late with my family to our reserved time slot but our hosts were so accommodating and even gave a private tour with my group so that the main group wouldn't have to wait. I have gone horseback riding many times in various national parks, Hawaii and along the coasts of California. This by far is one of my favorite rides. The trail takes you through the forest and through several creeks which was really fun. The kids loved it and adults did too. It was truly an adventure. Thank you for the lovely time!!! Tip: the road into the ranch is a dirt road and unmarked. Keep driving slowly until you reach the stables.

Be sure to arrive a bit early so the staff need to get your horse ready for you to ride and see if the stirrups fit and everything. I loved everything during my first horseback riding experience in Yosemite! My horse was Judy June and my partner's horse was Violet. If you have one or two hours to give to yourself go down Yosemite trails and take a trip on one of these companionable horses. You won't regret it!

I just wanted to write a quick review on how amazing Yosemite trails horseback adventures are. The family that owns it is amazing. They were very nice very helpful. The horses were very calm and very good listeners. I was a little nervous at first, and after the experience, it was such a fun, smooth adventure definitely will be returning.

A great adventure for my family and I. The guides were clearly there to see we had a good time but our safety was ensured right from the beginning. The start of the ride was all about teaching us to ride the horse and observing us to make sure we understood what we needed to do. We had our ten hour old with us and the guide Chloe was amazing talking her through the ride and make sure she had fun and was safe. She was a Disney princess on a horse to my daughter. The best compliment I can give is my family can't wait for our next trip to Yosemite so we can go riding again. Thank you so much for the great time!

This team is great! Fourth-generation trail ride ranch. This id their lives and they take it seriously. My family loves doing these and have enjoyed many over the years. This outfit is probably the most hospitable and well- prepared of the bunch. Get ready to get up close and personal with the wilderness, repeat with dusty trails, mountain lion tracks, bear, and a desperately cute dog with a hilarious underbite. Enjoy!

We had an absolutely wonderful time on this trail ride. The wranglers were all great and provided guidance and instructions from the most novice to experienced riders. The trail was easy and I just sat on the house and let her do her thing. We went out on the first ride of the day and it was cool and comfortable. We were also able to watch the sun start coming through the trees as it rose. There were also a couple of fun water crossings. Definitely will be returning on my next trip to Yosemite.

    Love the abundance of trees!

If you're reading this, you're most likely trying to confirm to yourself (or friends, partner, spouse, whoever) that you want to book a riding reservation with Yosemite Trails. BOOK IT. Don't even hesitate! Do yourselves a favor and allow yourself to experience California's breathtaking wilderness on a truly unique excursion, led by amazingly kind and knowledgeable guides. We had booked the 2 hour trail ride in the late afternoon, and it was the perfect amount of time for us. Chloe and Michelle were our guides, and they were AWESOME. I can't stop singing praises about how cool they are - funny, kind, experienced... - people you'd trust your life with while out in the wild. Since it was close to Independence Day, I would bust out singing patriotic songs while riding and Chloe joined in - honestly one of my favorite memories :) They started off by showing us how to communicate with each of our horses, how there was a buddy system between the horses, and how to ride Western Style. The ride was mellow and calm, with slight inclines and declines in the land, but you can do it without any prior riding experience. In addition to guiding us in the beautiful scenery, they'd tell us little facts of the plants, point out scenic views, and give us feedback on our riding position (i.e. if we were tilting and needed readjustment). We also stopped midway to do quick seat checks, and Chloe and Michelle helped take photos of us on our horses. Going on this trail ride with Yosemite trails helped me understand even further how Roosevelt and Muir saw Yosemite's inherent beauty, an epitome of American grace. It's different than hiking the trails near Yosemite Falls or Glacier Point...it's experiencing the land as it was hundreds of years ago, away from crowds and cameras, among beautiful creatures with great company. That should paint the picture for you pretty well :) I've only ridden horses twice before and on relatively flat land, but the mountainous terrain wasn't an issue at all - the horses knew how to navigate it themselves and required very little adjustment (if any). Most other "horseback riding" experiences actually use mules too, so this experience was special in and of itself. It's located really close to the Tenaya Lodge, so if you're staying there, definitely book a ride. We were staying near the north entrance of Yosemite, which is about an hour away, so it was nice to have a pit stop at the Lodge to get snacks before/after. Absolutely worth the "commute" (if you can even call it that...the scenery during the drive was beautiful). We'd definitely go with Yosemite Trails again, especially if we have guests from out-of-state/country. THANK YOU CHLOE, MICHELLE, AND YOSEMITE TRAILS for memories we'll cherish forever! PROTIPS: - They'll hand you a bandana (cowboy scarf) before your ride to wear over your nose and mouth. USE IT. There's a reason why they hand it to you. You don't have to use it, but beware that you'll end your ride with a nose full of dust boogies. - No bags allowed, so I suggest wearing a top with accessible pockets. I wear contacts and need eyedrops frequently, so my travel vest with 17 pockets came in clutch (SCOTTeVEST). - Provide your actual weight and height. This is not only for your safety, but the safety of the horses as well. - If your knees feel uncomfortable during the ride, let the guides know so they can readjust the stirrups. Speak up, or stay in pain for 1+ hours (and beyond, after your ride). - HAVE FUN!

When we arrived the young woman checking us in said, "You guys are late checking in." I informed her that the email receipt says, "Please arrive 30 minutes in advance of ride departure time." (Which we did.) She replied that they need to change the info in their system. So, then do not greet guests who've spent a lot of money for a vacation experience by telling them they are late!!! It made for a sour start to the trip. Then when matching up horses to guests, they moved one teenage girl to a different horse and gave that horse to my teenage son. The guide told us flat out, "This horse does not listen. You have to control it." I regret not speaking up in the moment saying, "Can you give the horse who is hard to control to one of the adults?" Well, you can imagine what happened. My son ended up in the back of the line away from our family and it was a real struggle for him to just make it to the end of the trail. He described the experience as "miserable" and the guide (who was right behind him) as "condescending." The saddest part is my son, who has always enjoyed trail rides elsewhere, says he never wants to go horseback riding again. He was also disappointed to be stuck in the back and not able to hear any of what the guide in the front was saying because he really enjoys that. My 12 year old daughter was likewise disappointed in the experience because she was "ponied"--the front guide had her horse on a rope the whole time (which is why we couldn't join my son at the back) and she didn't get to control the horse at all, and she's been horseback riding a number of times. At the end of the ride, the guide said that he thought my daughter's horse was the worst behaved of the group. Again, why are you giving the worse behaved horses to children? This is just not a family friendly place. There was another safety issue. At the end of the trail you cross through the Wawona parking lot and the guide twice yelled aggressively at cars that started to come toward us to stop--because if the horses/mules got scared that is obviously dangerous! It was really uncomfortable to be riding during those moments. There were a few good parts of this experience: the male guide in the front leading us (originally from the Bay Area) seemed genuinely enthused about what he was telling us about as we rode along. Additionally, outside of going through the nerve wracking parking lot experience it is a scenic and relaxed trail. Also, at the end, a young male brunette employee offered to take our pictures before we got off the horses. He was really nice. (This was odd though because I've never been on a trail where the guide didn't take pictures at the most scenic point on the trail.) We have greatly enjoyed horseback riding in many different national parks and this was an absolutely unacceptable experience. Think twice about this place if you have kids.

Over the Labor Day holiday we had a neat experience with Cabin 53. It had all of the basics that you could need and was cute and clean, and had decking all around. It was surrounded by a few other cabins and some nice pine trees. Staff from the Redwoods were friendly, accommodating, and responsive. There were many different sizes and types of cabins available, so both small and large groups can be accommodated. Unfortunately our cabin had a couple minor issues which couldn't be resolved, though they did try. The Redwoods community is located a short distance off the 41 in South Yosemite. It was still about 45 minutes to the main valley area, but it also had lots of neat things nearby as well. Still better than many options outside the park. I have so much to talk about but I'll stick to what's important. First off, The Redwoods In Yosemite is an hour out from Yosemite Valley still. This can be a deal breaker for some especially if you're seeking for convenience and accessibility to the park. For me however the space and comfort meant more so thats why I chose these cabins. (Three bathrooms definitely come in handy) The plus side is you can do Yosemite Valley all in one day and split your trip the other day to see The Grizzly Giant and Mariposa grove. (Which is literally down the road from these cabins) Also I would like to thank the Redwoods staff for being very accommodating of our situation. Our original plans in September fell through during the Gifford fires and AQI was around 400-800 in Yosemite and Mariposa. They helped us reschedule to October with no additional cost. We are very thankful for this because we deal with an autoimmune disease that would make this trip dangerous. Our weekend was magical because of this reschedule. But let's talk about the cabin itself. Here at We-Dunn-It, it fits a party of 6 and is considered one of the older cabins here at the Redwoods. But just because it's old it doesn't mean it's not comfortable. They have a room for kids with a bunk bed, the master bed room and a third room downstairs that is nice and private. Each room is retrofitted with a heater/ac system so you are comfortable in Yosemite's hottest days and coldest nights. Even with this past weekend dipping into the 40's, we were very comfortable during our stay. As for amenities this cabin is well stocked with all the necessities you need. From dinnerware, kitchenware and cutlery, you can almost find everything you need here for your stay besides personal toiletries. The fridge, oven and microwave have been updated since my stay in 2021 which means the cabin owner takes really good care of their property. Last but not least let's talk about cleanliness. I never had a pest problem like the other reviews with other cabins on here, but you do get the occasional gnats that fly in. (Understandable because you are located in the middle of the woods still) The big thing I want to emphasize is because you are still in the middle of the woods whether you feel like it or not you should respect the grounds/house rules. This includes taking out your own trash and leaving no trace behind. It was magical to walk out of my cabin and be greeted with a sitting brown black bear. It was also a reminder that you need to do your part in order to keep these bears safe and wild. Please take out your trash immediately after you leave and dump them at the appropriate trash cans around the town. Now with all the great things this cabin provided I do have a bit of feedback for it. The first was we found some chip crumbs by the trashcan upon our arrival. Which meant it wasn't swept properly before us coming in. It was no big deal but the minor missed attention to detail caused me to reconsider if the rest of the cabin was properly cleaned. Last was the amount of dust in the cabin. After my stay in 2021 I learned from my lesson to bring an air purifier for my allergies. Thankfully this came in handy and made my latest stay more comfortable. I will say although there was less dust floating around, the bed frames still had a lot of dust and crumbs in its edges. This was a bit off putting especially when Im inspecting for bed bugs. Plus the throw pillows on the bed poofed tons of dust as we were moving them off the bed. We highly recommend just getting rid of these entirely because they seem uncleaned and unsanitary. Overall I would still highly recommend The Redwoods for your stay, and looking forward to potentially staying at the other cabins. Its proximity and space from Yosemite makes it the perfect spot for your family vacation.
