I was recommended to come to this place by a friend of mine. It is not a fancy accounting office, rather a room with some chairs and a window. It almost looks like a check cashing joint...lol. At Balcom Consulting Services they offer Accounting, Bookkeeping, Small Business Tax Prep., Tax Planning, and Small Business Consulting, they also do taxes for the little people like me if that does not fit into that category. Not only did I get friendly service, a great return, everything was organized and but into a nice neat binder for safe keeping. Here is how they do things: - You walk in, they give you a form - You fill out all of your information including any deductions (student loan statements, medical bills, charity, etc.) - Hand the nice girl at the counter your form and your W-2's. - Wait for a phone call (they are very very quick) - they tell you the cost of preparing your taxes, you come back in with a check, sign the dotted line. *** they spend time really figuring out how to get you your money, they are ethical in every shape or form, they are thorough that is why you have to wait for a call*** I am happy to say I will be using them again for the upcoming tax season, you should too!!

I first went to consult David back in March 2022 and he was great. He answered all my tax questions and I was in and out of the office in no time. I thought to myself, great, I just found an amazing accountant in my neighborhood. During that time, I explained to David about my situation and he responded to come back to me when tax season is over and all he has to do is to file a 1040x (to amend my tax return - 1040). (Side note: The issue that I had was that I initially e-filed my taxes. The federal rejected it but the state accepted it. Which is why I went to seek professional services in resolving the problem). So on December 12, 2022 at 1:30pm I went to see David and his office was busy. I told David I did not have an appointment and I asked, "should I make an appointment"? He decided to hear me out at first but then he passed my case to one of his employees. The employee explained to me that since I did not file my taxes 2020 taxes with them, there is nothing that they can do and I would have to come back during tax season. I tried to explain to them what David told me back in April (to come back after tax season) and David told his employee in Chinese "just ignore him, he is too annoying". Yup, just because someone doesn't speak the language, doesn't mean the person does not understand. The funny thing is that, just over the weekend, the same family friend asked me how was my experience with David because she wanted to file her taxes with him for the upcoming year. I raved about how great he was the first time around but after this experience, it got me to think: if a family friend doesn't even use your service in the first place, it is extremely telling of your professional demeanor or the lack thereof. They were casual and non-communicative about a letter from the state with a deadline for response, to which I had to rush a reply to get a postmark to be in legal compliance. They were indifferent that a significant refund was at stake. In a previous year, a server went down and they lost all returns. Careless. Another year we had to submit additional documentation to the state as they said that their software had a glitch which affected many clients' returns. Bureaucratic and unreliable. Tony used to provide a personal touch. But it's a large bureaucratic operation, he doesn't even give a simply reply like "I'm working on this matter" when he is CC'd on an urgent matter. The receptionist tell you "it was on Tony's calendar for last week," not "Tony has taken care of this." It used to be in person annual appointments, then went to Zoom, and then became by telephone. The amount of time was reduced very year, even as fees outpaced inflation. It's overpriced, and the service and reliability are not at all what they used to be. Tony used to be a nice guy and very professional, but he's only a shadow of what he used to be.
