I dropped my beaten Columbia mountain bike off to them Thursday after work and it was ready around noon on Friday - fast and my bike rides like a dream. It was $50 for the tune up and $30 to fix my pedals. Conveniently located about 2 blocks away from the Snyder stop on the Broad Street Line made it easy to drop off and pick up. EDIT/UPDATE: Liberty Bell never actually fixed my bike - they told me that they were going to install a bracket that would fix the pedal issue. The pedals were fine for a few months but started getting shaky again in October. I put the bike away for the winter and brought it back out last month and after a short time the bike was unridable because the pedals were shaking so badly. I was charged for them to put a bracket on that would fix my pedals. It turns out that no such bracket was installed and the bearings are completely stripped - I'm told they are so bad that there's no way I could have done that much wear and tear in a year. If you do plan to go here, I strongly suggest you make them show you exactly what they did to your bike. read more

Dishonest and unprofessional. Just found out these guys sold me a USED TUBE. Took it out of the box a couple weeks after buying it to find a thick glued patch on it. This is the same shop that bought and sold a bike stolen from my house and recorded no information on the seller(thief). They hung a sign up after my boy found out his stolen bike was sold there saying they were requiring ID to buy your bike, but it was only up a couple weeks. It's long gone now. I work delivery and brought in my bike for repairs on one occasion, guy assured me it'd be ready by XX30 am the next day. Told him I could pick it up on my way to work then. Show up at XX30, place is closed, guy doesn't show up for another 20 minutes, opens up, and has yet to finish the repair (a simple true I think it was). Late for work. These guys are three blocks from my house, otherwise I would never set foot in here. read more

This is my new bike shop and I couldn't be happier. A no-frills place with some retail gear and great, honest repair service. I've had 6-8 repairs done on 2+ bikes now and it's always fast, courteous, and inexpensive. Finding a good bike shop is as hard (if not harder) than finding a good mechanic. Soo I had high hopes for this place because it's right around the corner from me and after the shop I was going to moved locations to one no longer convenient for my day to day shenanigans, I decided to give this place a try for a tune up a few weeks ago. First of all, the guy running the shop wouldn't really let me make an appointment, which okay, I get it, but their hours are pretty bad, closing at 4:30pm a few days a week and I don't know many people who get off work early enough to make that timeline. I ended up leaving work early one day to drop off the bike so he could get to it the next day. I am fortunate to have a flexible boss, so it was fine. I got my bike back and all seemed well until I realized the chain was SUPER Looooose, but not until it fell off and I went flying off of it. It happened multiple times on my way home; it was a very unpleasant and mildly terrifying experience.I was swerving all over S. Philly. Not fun. After examining it when I got home, my hubster said there was a problem with the hub. I took it back and they "fixed" it, but the chain now sort of drags and my bike squeaks. I'm planning to take it somewhere else to have them look at it to elminate annoying dragging and squeaking, hopefully. My hubster took his bike there a few days after I took mine in (and before above incident) for a tune up and the dude was very flustered when we arrived. Refused to let us make an appointment and insisted that we try and get the bike there before 4:30pm. He said he's the only mechanic, what can he do?? But the way he demonstrated this comment was like we were accusing him, when really we were just tryna give him some business. The hubster's job isn't as flexible, so I ended up taking it in for him right when they opened one Fri morning I was working from home. Dude had the bike until Tuesday night. Seems a bit much for a tune up. His bike seems fine. He says it's been pretty smooth, so although it took a hot minute for them to get to his bike, he seems pleased with the results. A friend of ours also had an unpleasant experience there with her bike, where she had to take her bike elsewhere to get it worked on afterward. In all, not the absolute most horrible worst, but we will not be returning. read more

This is a great bike shop with friendly staff! So great in fact, I'm going to write my first yelp review to praise their awesome customer service, fair prices and super quick service. I brought my old vintage free spirit cruiser in to be looked at and it was in rough conidition after sitting in a basement for over a year. I planned on selling it and didn't want to spend to much fixing the broken brake cable, flat tire, and faulty gear shifting machanism. In under 24 hours they fixed everything and even replaced my back tire with a better used spare they had!! This was all at a great low price. This was one of the few places that did free inspections for the MS city to shore ride last fall, so I brought my bike in for an inspection and basic tuneup, and also to replace a punctured tube in the rear tire. It ended up costing a bit over $30, which seemed reasonable, but after leaving, I noticed the brakes were very loose. I should have taken it back, but being somewhat new to biking at the time, I was thinking it could be normal (the brakes still worked, just had to pull all the way down). The city to shore ride was cancelled, but I got in a few more rides that season and dealt with the brakes feeling loose. Now this spring after my 2nd ride of the year, I noticed the rear tire was bulging, so I took it to another bike shop. They told me the last place screwed up the brakes (put 2 pads on one side) and also put in a tube too big for the tire (hence the bulge). Long story short - I've found my new bike shop, and it isn't Liberty Bell. read more

I bought a used bicycle here last summer. They have a small selection, but the bike I got was both cheaper and in better condition than you'd find in the other used shops in town. They also sell some new stuff and offer the standard repair services. I've never gotten anything fixed here, but the guy who sold me my bike was pretty friendly. He told me that if I had any problems in the next 30 days, I could bring it back and he'd fix it for free. read more

I don't have much experience going to bike shops, but I can say that Liberty Bell was great! I took my vintage Raleigh in when it was in pretty bad shape (it had been sitting outside for a year) and they cleaned a lot of the rust off and fixed the tires and cables. Even before it had been sitting outside it did this thing where it would fall between gears. Fixed! And considering the work that had to be done, it was relatively cheap. read more

I had a bearing failure on a bike crossing the Tacony. Walked my bike to Frankford put it on a bus to get the the Frankford location. Worker there tells me we wont work on your bike, when all he had to do was replace the wheel bearings. A total jerk. I'll never step foot in that place again. I have brought my bike to this shop and have been extremely satisfied both times. This visit I felt like they went above and beyond for me. I dropped off the bike for a standard tune up and to fix my flat tire, They called me to tell me that my rear brakes were shot too and asked if I would like them replaced. When I rode the bike home I couldn't believe the difference, especially in the brakes! I will be a loyal customer here for as long as I live in the area. read more
