Beds not made, old towels picked up and new ones literally just thrown in. We have visited your lodge about seven times over the last decade to celebrate our wedding anniversary. In that time, your prices have gone way up and the quality has gone way down.

I have stayed at the inn every year for 13 years! Don't be fooled...The great reviews and nearly 5-star ratings are carry-overs from previous ownership. The lovely photos on the Eagle Cliff website are also carry-overs from the previous owners. A little bait and switch? The new owners are obviously coasting on the previous reputation of excellence that Jerry & Lu earned. Now the details: In less than one year since ownership transferred, the inn has fallen into disrepair and the simplest amenities (such as bedding and towels) seem to be the cheapest they could find. It starts at the front porch where two dead hanging plants set the tone for what we should expect. A few steps further, we found a badly torn screen in the door. A long strand of severed speaker wire hung loosely next to the door. One outdoor sconce was burnt out while one of the porch fans didn't work. Many light fixtures inside didn't work including the stairwell lighting (safety???). There are large cracks and badly patched holes throughout the interior. Bare screws remain in walls all over where previous decor had been removed. The ceiling fan in our bathroom was teeming with dead bugs and the vents were literally overflowing with dirt and dust. And don't look too closely into the toilet bowl. (I'll leave that one there.) I could go on but these examples should paint the (grim) picture. The inn is now the same "class" as the many roadside motels that serve the strip - but with a higher price tag while the owners leverage the PREVIOUS glory of the Eagle Cliff. It's a place to flop, no more than that. And it's not even been a year since the new owners took over. I can't imagine what it will become in another year and beyond. May I propose a new, more fitting, name? How about "Seagull Sinkhole"?

We did not use the shower in the bathroom, but the toilet, sinks, tub, etc, was quite clean. The layout of the hotel is a bit odd...there are motel style rooms, or interior rooms. They did offer a exceedingly modest continental breakfast with an offering of a bagel or english muffin, two choices of cereal, or some individually packaged applesauce. Nothing special, but it was clean and easy to locate.

We are VERY happy we did. The owners, Laura and Norm, are the nicest people and have decorated the house beautifully. Every morning the breakfast was absolutely delicious - the bacon was THE BEST! We purchased the wine tour and highly recommend doing it. The tour is tailored to your tastes and they drive so you can enjoy the wine (or breweries/distilleries). We stayed in the Royal Suite and it was beautiful. Loved the bathtub with the jets. Breakfast was worth the stay itself. We stayed in the Vintage Room which is the only room with a private entrance. Our room was like having an efficiency apartment, all sitting room as soon as you walk in the door. Large bathroom with a whirlpool bath ( my girl really liked that ) a small room off of the main bedroom that could be used as a changing room , a very large bedroom with a four poster king bed . TV with Direct TV and a gas fireplace that would be real nice to use if we were there in the winter. Elaine our host was super nice and an excellent chef. Breakfast was stuffed french toast which I had never had and was awesome. If I am ever back this way again I will defiantly stay here again.

It is a nice place to go if you want a beach atmosphere without having to drive 500 miles to achieve it. They have a main strip with all the usuals..gift shops, antique shops, surf shops, mini golf, bar, upscale restaurant, and food like trucks that specialize in "carnival" specialties. There are plenty of small cottages for weekly rental and the view..WOW..you really can fool yourself into thinking you are at the ocean. Great for a little getaway!
