    Arena & Harrison Cpa

    Arena & Harrison Cpa

I have used Arena & Harrison CPA's, Inc for the last 4 years for my tax return. Matt Ganz has done…read moremy taxes. He is so professional, kind, a wealth of knowledge. My taxes are a little tricky but are always completed in a timely manner. The staff is friendly as well. I'm so grateful for this CPA firm.

Beware! I passed…read moreover my tax documents to a Nick Arena (a CPA at Arena & Harrison) on 1/20/18, as soon as I received the necessary files from my employer. Although Nick said that he was free all of February it somehow took him until early March to finally mail me my prepared return (he offered to mail it since their office is 30 minutes away). Upon receiving the return I was asked to send it back because the CPA realized he could add another deduction - this was to be sent back at my expense. Upon reviewing the return I also noted multiple questions and concerns around various parts of the return, including that my student loan interest wasn't included. I mailed the return back on 3/7 and also followed up via email. There was no response via email or phone and finally A MONTH LATER, 4/2, I received the return via mail (extremely close to the tax deadline). When I opened the return NONE of the changes that I requested were made and no one reached out to me prior to mailing the return again to answer my questions, explain why changes wouldn't be made or to notify me that the original reason for sending back, the new deduction, wasn't going to be applied. Once again, I called multiple times and was finally contacted by the receptionist who informed me that the CPA didn't agree with my changes and the return was "accurate" from their standpoint. The accuracy of the return was extremely important because the CPA was saying that I owed thousands of dollars- clearly I wasn't ok with filing it with no context to the lack of changes and I felt unsure that the work was reliable. At this point I had signed nothing and paid nothing. So I sent the return back to the CPA (with USPS tracking) with a note letting them know that I was dissatisfied with their services and would be using a different CPA's services. I clearly didn't use Arena & Harrison's prepared files because I paid another professional CPA firm to file for me. The new CPA was able to do the return within 2 days and with a MUCH lower amount owed on my taxes. Now I've started to receive "past due" bills from Arena & Harrison. I called on 7/14 to let them know that I was confused as to why I was being billed because I did not end up filing with them and returned their files. The receptionist relayed that the firm partner told her "because they did work I am responsible for paying them". I asked for the partner to call me back directly and haven't heard back. (Once again, poor follow through.) I then filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Arena & Harrison responded unprofessionally. They spent their time trying to make it sound like I was hard to work with (AKA-I was the root of the problem) and used up a large amount of "professional hours". They stated that the reason it took them so long to complete by return was because I kept emailing them new documents to use for my taxes - that is completely inaccurate. I met with Nick Arena on 1/30 and also hopped on the phone with him to make sure that he had what he needed. Luckily I saved all of the emails between us and can say with confidence that not only did I make things easy and provide everything upfront, but I was also very quick to respond if/when Nick reached out to me. I can also see looking through that threads that a LARGE portion of our email correspondences were of me following up asking for a status updates because the CPA was bad at following up or responding at all. My advice is to go elsewhere. I wish I would have done this myself. Arena & Harrison not only has communication/ follow through issues but they also have a clear lack of professionalism. I am shocked that they took the time to respond to my BBB complaint to make ME look bad as opposed to trying to rectify the issue. What they probably don't realize is that anyone reading that on BBB is going to take it as a red flag that they are unprofessional and have no accountability.

Went to a tax specialist years ago to do my taxes and all they did was input my data into a…read moresoftware package. I'm like "I can just do that myself", so I started using H&R Block s.w, in 2010. Easy to use, accurate, good help screens and add one, updates, just makes life easier and takes the complication out of doing your own taxes.

I had a very delightful experience with getting my taxes done here. Vince A. McKinsey is…read moreexceptionally knowledgeable, and was enjoyable to talk to you as a person. It honestly felt like he cared about my needs and that I wasn't just another tax document for him to file. He did a great job explaining everything to me and making the process easy for me. He also helped me file my taxes, but I wasn't able to file last year. Even though the company didn't send me a W-2 that I had been working for at the time, he was still able to find information about their tax ID and get me a refund for the money that I wasn't refunded by the IRS the year prior despite the bare bones W-2 I was able to pull up online. Vince is a very talented and experienced tax preparer and if you go to this location, you should request him to do your taxes. I couldn't be happier with the service he provided me that being said there are a couple critiques I have with H&R Block as a company. H&R Block really needs to update and patch the systems. These poor tax repairs have to use as it makes their job that much harder and it forces us to wait for the system to confirm everything wallet stuck with the loading screen icon continually rotating. My second critique is the rate at which you charge people to file their taxes in person. I'm sorry but charging somebody over $200 to file your taxes for you when you don't have any special or obscure tax deductions is a too steep. That is the only reason why next year I'm probably going to file my own taxes and use the federal free program (I qualify for that anyways) as spending over $200 isn't worth the convenience that having somebody else do your taxes for you provides. Again, this is not a mark against Vince as he did everything perfectly to his ability and it's H&R Block corporate that sets the cost of service. It's a real shame seeing as I had an absolutely delightful experience doing this and it was Vince that made it so delightful. It really was hassle free and a load off my. It's just not paying over $200 and I wouldn't go to any company that charges those kind of rates for basic tax preparation services, but if you do go there, Vince will give you excellent service
