Small theatre with a very selective programme of events. Have had some really interesting nights here. Worth a visit.

This is hands down one of the best pubs I've ever been to. Lichfield itself is a really fun, small…read morecity in the West Midlands, home to some great history, and coincidentally, a very couth and moneyed demographic, which means going out in the city centre isn't as fraught with danger as it could be. The George IV attracts a great crowd, from 20s to 40s, all usually well-dressed and -behaved. The drinks are nice and they have more wine than a typical pub. But the best thing about this pub is the live music, which happens every Fri and Sat, and many Thursdays. But it's not just live cover bands, it's the best indie, alt and upcoming bands the area can find. The first night (of many) we went here, we heard an amazing blues/funk band that rocked our socks off. There's not really a place to dance, though people do try their best, especially one regular known for his colourful, flamboyant shirts (and dance moves). The beer garden is spacious, with lots of tables and benches, and a nice, relaxed vibe with pretty flowers climbing up white washed stone. The crowd is super friendly, and easy-going, and it's a great way to spend a low-key, music-filled Friday night.

If you're looking for nice, home cooked food, then it is very pleasant to eat here, although they really need to expand the menu and although the chips are home cooked, I don't really 'do' chips, so there isn't much choice if you're not a chip fan. Their home made pies are great. The chicken and leek pie, well, I have never seen so many leeks in a pie, I was very impressed! The rooms are nice, with comfy sofas and tables to sit at if you're dining. Children are welcome and there is free wi-fi available, which is great if you have a smart phone and you want to check your emails. The staff are friendly and if you're dining, will serve everything (including drinks) at the table, rather than having to order or pay at the bar, like you would do at most pubs. Apparently they also put a film on in the back room (I think it's on a Sunday afternoon), which I think is a good idea. A pleasant place to stop for a pint and platter in the centre of Lichfield.

The Feathers - Treacle. Later, I smothered it in that warm custard sauce. Delicious.

New to Lichfield, I visited the pub for the first time in March 2018 and I was immediately struck…read moreby the friendly welcome I received. By chance, I met a couple of regulars who introduced me to the Mike and Tracey the landlords who went the extra mile to make me feel at home. A band was playing and Tracy kindly had a bop with me which quite made my night. I had a light meal that could hardly have been better and it was delivered by a delightfully friendly lady. All together a most enjoyable experience that I intend to repeat as often as I'm able; they really have got it right.

My husband got Irish stew in a big bowl. Tasty but a little flat--luckily they provide salt at the table (though oddly no pepper) I got Homemade Steak and Ale pie. Also very tasty with a good sauce. For dessert we had ice cream and a treacle. Never had treacle before and it was delicious. I like the warm custard better than the cream topping with it (they let me try both). The wait staff was extremely helpful and willing to answer all our questions. BTW, brown sauce in the packets (ketchup, mayo, mustard, horseradish, mint) is like stake sauce. Would visit again but I'd get mashed potatoes instead of fries with the pie. The chef came out and sat with us a while. It was a Tuesday and not overly busy, but we were early. NOTE: the kitchen closes at 8 pm week nights. We got there just before 6 on a holiday when they were closing early and they kept it open for us. Very nice and personable. Saw a family with kids eating there as well as an older couple enjoying a pint. Definitely will come back. Loved the treacle.
