I've been coming here for years. Whether it's a serene solo walk in nature or a good trail run, there's always plenty of shade and creatures in their own habitat: rabbits, deer, frogs and even ! I only had one negative experience 2 years ago when I was running and got bit by a dog. This was the owners fault and not the park, nor was it reflective of most of the responsible dog owners who have full control and awareness if their pet is off leash. The improvements being made are an exceptional work in process. I sure will miss this gem when I leave CStat! Thanks for the memories :) read more

We always like coming here for a nice walk after a big Sunday breakfast. Great place to get outdoors with the elementary school kids (start off with the shortest trail "Yaupon Loop" and then work your way up to the longer trails) Although I've seen younger kids here (toddlers to preschool) these families usually stick to the main road (sometimes with strollers) and aren't on the deeper trails, which are not flat enough to accommodate regular strollers (unless maybe you have a jogging stroller with bicycle tires?) You'll always find a couple folks here walking their dogs, and a couple of runners along the trails. I only gave this 4 stars out of 5 because not all the trails (trail intersections) are marked. Be careful you don't get lost. Also, very few benches or seating along the trails. But otherwise, this place is a little hidden gem in College Station. read more

This was my first time at Lick Creek Park after having lived in College Station for 3 years. I am always looking for new places to walk my dog and came here on a friend's recommendation. I was in love with the wide trails, tall green trees and the overall distance of the trails (~4 miles overall). Other places in town do not compare. read more

Whenever I travel, I really try to keep up my exercise routine, particularly if that can include a local park with trails good for walking and jogging. This place fit the bill did not manage to get on all the trails here, but still got 4.5 if running. Trails were wide, going through the trees and across bridges, plus some mild elevation changes. For those of you who prefer super smooth paths, this might not be the greatest place in your estimation. Most of the trails are fine but there are some parts with rocks on the trail that requires a little more attention to keep from turning an ankle. But in my opinion, the only retractions were sections that went right behind a neighborhood and a section on the opposite side of the park that went by a sewer treatment plant. Not a big deal but a little surprising at first since most of the trails you can hear birds signing, you are passing through the trees, and you feel like you are in a (semi) wilderness area. The other thing that was a little concerning was that although there were maps with "you are here" marked on them at trail intersections, there were not signs at the trailheads which might have made navigating a little easier. Oh, and they appear to have some nice facilities at the trailhead, but they were not open when I was there on Sunday. read more

I love this park, my dog loves this park. That's all I need. Well almost, my only beef with the park is the barbed wire boundary fence on one side. I get that it's the person that owns that land, and I don't blame them in the least for putting up a fence, but my dog and his buddy dog snuck under it on our first trip here, and it was incredibly nerve wracking to coax the little brats back under the fence without them getting hurt. Since then I've been more careful, and put him back on his leash if we go near the fence, but I wish it wasn't there and hope this helps prepare others with curious and occasionally less-than-obedient dogs. The good thing is that there are plenty of other places for him to run around that are nowhere near this fence and plenty of places for him to splash around in. I miss the entrance 37% of the time I go here. So make sure you keep your eyes peeled. I can't believe how many cliches I used in this post. read more

A great birding location with a number of good species throughout the year. Only downfall are the folks with their dogs unleashed - I know it's a park, come on people, be respectful of others. Trails always well maintained and clean, have never found litter along the paths on my trips through. read more

1/17/2016 this trail is shady all the way around not much to see in the winter as all the flowers are dead(I'm sure it's gorgeous in the Springs and Summer once the flowers come back)--lots of birds;trail was wide enough for bikers and walkers;I enjoyed all the benches along the trial to sit and rest or just enjoy the birds. In addition to the HEB, this may be one of the few things I like about south College Station. Its a nice little park actually, though don't look for anything really scenic...such things don't exist in this part of the state. Given the breakneck frenetic level of development and spread of butt-ugly and over-priced McMansions going on here, be glad a park exists at all. Weirdly, the entrance is very hard to find. Its almost as if people don't want you to know there is a park here. Often entrances and trails are "closed for maintenance" which never actually seems to occur, so be aware of this. All in all its a peaceful place to get out and clear your head, and get a little exercise, which folks around here sorely seem to need. Happy trails! read more

Since I'm from out of town I'm always looking for a place to let my dogs run and Lick Creek has been a favorite until this morning when a black dog named Lucy attacked my dog for no apparent reason. The owner didn't find it necessary to apologize for her dogs behavior nor did she see fit to leash her dog - this kind of non action from a dog owner is why people shy away from dog parks. It would also be a great idea for people to clean up after their dogs - I realize you might have to walk around with a bag of poop until you find a trash container, which unfortunately is only at the front entrance, but hey, your dog, your poop, clean it up because it really is a beautiful park (when Lucy and her owner aren't there). read more

This place is great if you're looking to jog, walk, bike by yourself or with friends of the human and dog variety. It can also be used as an equestrian trail but I haven't personally encountered many horses (though I've seen some hoof tracks). There are 3 entrances, a residential entrance that is behind the nearby subdivision, the main entrance, and the equestrian entrance just up the road from the main entrance. The parking lot at the main entrance is pretty small, but no one minds if you park along the curb should there be no available spaces. The park is pretty huge and there is no lack of trails. I do caution for first time visitors to at least take a picture on their phone of the map of the park that is placed at the entrance that maps all the trails for reference. It is pretty easy to get lost in this park, as there are many branching paths off of the official trails and it can get pretty hard to tell whether you're on a certain trail or not until you've reached on of the markers. However, most of these trails do EVENTUALLY lead to one of the official trails. I do not have a dog to bring to this park, but it seems like a wonderful place to give you and your dog good exercise and given the number of dogs I've seen at the park many owner seems to agree. All of the dogs I've encountered have been either aloof or friendly, and most owners seem to keep their dogs off-leash. This doesn't really pose a problem as they are all pretty well behaved. The park is pretty wild as well and heavily wooded, as it is pretty much impossible to get off a trail as is too densely wooded. I have also used this park for an insect collection project for a class, and for this purpose it is also wonderful. I do caution anyone who comes here in the spring and summer months to try to avoid wearing bright colors. The bees and wasps as well as other insects will be attracted to the colors and will fly uncomfortably close to you as well as follow you over some distances. Overall this park is perfect for its intended purpose. I would give 5 stars if not for the unmarked trails. I got lost for 2 hours on my first visit here because of these trails, but the park is otherwise great. read more

I've been going to Lick Creek Park from the time it first opened. It was bequeathed to the city by a ranch owner with the stipulation that it be kept in wild condition - no baseball diamonds, soccer fields, etc. We have more than enough of those in other parks. The trails vary between manicured and fairly wild. The old iron bridge the ranch used to cross the creek is still there, and an interesting part of the history of the area. It is great for biking, hiking, and horses. It's also great for off lead exercise of your dog. There are lots of wild critters to observe - raccoons, possums, a variety of snake species, frogs, toads, and a roosting place for a large flock of vultures. As with any wild place, watch where you put your feet, especially if visibility is not good. Most of the snakes we've caught and released are harmless and beneficial, but you or your dog can encounter a copperhead or rattler. There are no restrooms, so make sure you go before you go! Bring your own water, and be prepared to pack out the empties. That keeps it nice for everyone. Bring mosquito repellant and be prepared to use it! It is good to either carry a screen shot of the map on your phone or have a decent sense of direction. People do get lost here, especially after sunset, though usually not forever. My dog and I have located lost hikers and guided them back to the entrance. For people who love nature and want a unique park that does not look like a prim city manicured golf course with swings, this place is awesome. read more
