HOWEVER, it shares a critical fault with Black Cab - the bait and switch. Calling this taxi company, does not, in fact, guarantee that said company will be picking you up. On my most recent trip, I was picked up by Sam's Cab, featuring an old and beaten up minivan, uncharacteristic of the new and well kept vehicle I was expecting from Datta. Instead of helping me and picking up my bags, the driver opted to pick up another fare! Not only did I have to share my taxi ride with a stranger, I was charged a fare for BOTH my sister and myself (Datta charges per person as well, but the ridiculousness here is exacerbated by the additional pickup). Did I end up taking a bus instead of a taxi?! Unfortunately, these practices are standard in Chambana for students traveling from campus to the airport and back. 5/5 for Datta if you win the taxi lottery. 1/5 if you lose. 3/5 overall.

Then I called Black Cab & Limo and spoke with Malik, the owner. From the very beginning, he stood out--not just for his professionalism and reasonable quote, but for his genuine care. He was focused on one thing: getting my husband home safely. When delays in my husband's discharge occurred, leaving Malik waiting, he was patient and understanding throughout. When my husband recently had to make an unexpected return to the hospital, with less than 24 hours' notice, I reached out again, despite thinking our request was impossible. Once more, Malik came through. I don't have enough words to describe how much this has meant to us. Malik and Black Cab & Limo provided more than just a badly needed ride. I found him on yelp, where I chose him semi-randomly after the first cab I'd picked said he needed a text message with my address (which he'd already verbally confirmed), and I didn't have a text-messaging phone. I didn't ask R&H's rates until he'd dropped me off, but it was 2$ less than the other cab had quoted to me over the phone, so that was a pleasant surprise. R&H (I can't remember his name, or what to call him) is super prompt (even at 5:15 am!) and easily reachable by phone to reassure family that he'd be on time :). There were a couple of inches of snow on the road (the reason I needed a cab in the first place) and he was an excellent and careful driver. Finally, he's just really nice. My cell phone was broken, and my parents called him after he'd dropped me off, in order to reach me, and he came back in to tell me. I know this kind of kindness is maybe more common in a town like C-U, but I still really appreciated this guy. I haven't written a yelp review in a while, but here I was moved to! If I find myself taking a cab again in Urbana, then this is without question my go-to guy.
