Migros is an interesting food option, when you find yourself in Basel Bahnhof…read more There are some restaurants you could try, but Migros has a very large, diverse selection of pastries, sandwiches, wurst encrusted pastries, pizza, wine, beer, soda and pretty much anything you can Take & Grab for your train journey. It reminds me of the French chain Brioche Dorée, but only better. The four of us came here before getting on our train and came away happy we did. The prices are very reasonable, too. PS - Don't forget and stop at nearby Sprüngli for some chocolates before you go.

Lots of other options including ceviche shrimp, beef tartare (no, even in Switzerland I won't eat it from a deli counter), tuna, sliced chicken, egg salad. And the desserts! Oh, my! I'm not on keto when I'm on vacation but these were still looking too rich for me. But I only barely managed to resist the fruit tart cakes. Coffees and sodas, yes. Beers and wine are across the way. Not a lot of room here for eating and sitting, so we ended up taking it to go and enjoyed it on the train to Zürich. [Review 16454 overall - 7 in Switzerland - 1962 of 2021.]

Zurich, Switzerland Great Local Supermarket Near Our…read moreAirbnb! We had just arrived in Zurich and needed some essentials ~ shampoo, conditioner, water, snacks, and of course, some beer. Luckily, this supermarket was just a short walk from our Airbnb. The store is well-stocked with everything from fresh produce to ready-to-eat meals. We were pleasantly surprised to find a machine that makes fresh orange juice on the spot - my SO was so impressed, he grabbed one right away! I wandered over to the chocolate aisle and was absolutely overwhelmed (in the best way). They had good deals too. So many options! I had a tough time deciding what to bring back for friends. You can pay with either card or cash, and we found the employees friendly and speaks good English. The store was never crowded during any of our visits, which made shopping even more pleasant. Definitely a convenient and well-run spot if you're staying nearby! It's very near the train station. It's clean and organized.

Yelp Review 2026 #73:…read more This Coop is big and has everything. It's within walking distance from my hotel so it was very convenient to stop here and get snacks and drinks. It's open early and open til late (6am-10pm is late). They're one of the few businesses that's open on Sundays. Switzerland is known to be the most expensive country to visit which is absolutely true. Most go to Coop as a "hack" by buying food here instead of going to restaurants. Food is affordable here. They have deli meats, jamon Iberico, baked goods, arancini, cakes, pastries, pizza, sushi, sashimi, cups/ bowls of fruit, etc. I came here the first time to grab snacks like chips, Barebells and drinks. They were giving away protein shakes right next to the checkout counters. You do have to pay for shopping bags. If you need utensils, you have to pay for that too. The second time I was here was to get bandaids. The staff was helpful in pointing me to the right direction. Third visit was to compare prices for chocolates. I got Lindt chocolates for cheaper at Lindt Home of Chocolate.

This place is a gem in Zürich! You can get a huge selection of stuff at prices much lower than at…read moreMigros or Coop. Prices could be comparable to those at Denner, but the latter tends to have a smaller selection of merchandise. The only thing is that Lidl doesn't stock certain items, like soymilk, peanut butter, whole-wheat pasta, or those lovely pie/tart wedges that I like to eat for dinner once in a while. But for the staples (and a little exotica not readily found in other stores--Mexican tortillas, American chocolate chip cookies, Schwäbisch Maultaschen, Swedish oat cookies, American marshmallows), this place is great! I love filling up my bags and then checking how little the final bill comes out to be. :D

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!…read more This Lidl has the absolute worst customer service from both employees and the managers. Living in Switzerland for over 9 years this place is by far the worst I have experienced! I shop here often because they have good selections and "Aktionen" items and in general the prices are relatively inexpensive compared to the bigger Swiss supermarket chains like Migros and Coop. But for some inexplicable reason the employees and managers working here are exceedingly rude and unhelpful. Most of the time I put up with it and just not ask for any assistance from anyone. I pay for everything with Apple Pay or TWINT on my iPhone. On most days I also carry some cash as a backup. Today while I was shopping I noticed my phone had ran out of battery. Unfortunately I left the house in a hurry and forgot to take my backpack with the backup cash inside. I walked around until I found a Lidl employee (whom I've never seen at this Lidl before) and asked if it's possible to charge my phone somewhere just for a couple of minutes only for the purpose of making the payment on the groceries I already picked up. He seemed visibly annoyed but looked around behind displays for a plug. Then I said I don't have a cable and asked if maybe someone who works there does. He said there is one iPhone charger upstairs in the office but it's very inconvenient for him to charge my phone there. I apologized for causing his inconvenience and thanked him profusely for his help. He punched the code at the personnel door and disappeared behind it with my iPhone in hand. He came back less than a minutes later and said it is not possible as "This is not a service we provide!" I was a little taken aback as I'm obviously just asking him for help and not expecting it to be a typical service provided by Lidl. I calmly explained to him that I have been shopping at this Lidl store for many years since it opened at this location. This is the only time this situation has ever occurred while I'm shopping here. I'm asking for a favor not expecting a service. Coincidentally, at the same moment, the manager walked by and the employee quickly said something to the manager. The manager looked at me with disdain, rudely threw up a hand and said absolutely not before walking away. I put down my basket with the groceries inside on top of a stack of cases of beer and walked out of the store taking a little comfort in the thought that it would take him longer to put back all the items than to charge my phone for a couple of minutes. NEVER SHOPPING AT THIS LIDL AGAIN...EVER!!!

At 8 a.m., the store is very busy, and it has a fresh bakery section where I see a lot of passengers grab their breakfast, probably for the train ride. Yelp Review 2026 #107:…read more I enjoy going to Migros and Coop while in Switzerland. They have groceries, pharmacy items and ready-to-eat food. Most tourists come here to get food at the fraction of the cost from eating at restaurants. I was getting tired of eating Swiss food so, I went here since I know they have pretty much everything. Sandwiches, deli meats and cheeses, fresh fruits, fruit cups, fruit bowls, sushi, pastries (both sweet and savory), pizza, salads, octopus salad, shrimps, salmon tartare, Mediterranean food, Middle Eastern food, chicken breast, samosas. Pastas you can reheat. It's also a good place to get some Swiss snacks, drinks, protein bars and ice cream. I grabbed sushi, salad and chicken breast. You do have to pay for utensils. The bad: the cashier was rude and was rushing us at the self-checkout counter - nobody needs your help, nobody needs your attitude. Like if you're bored and there's nobody in line, go make yourself useful and do something else. The rice on the sushi was a lot and it was dry which made it worse. The fish was thinly sliced. I tossed half of the rice.
