To be…read morehonest, I really wasn't looking forward to this visit because last year, it was such a huge confusing process, especially since it was new patient visit. Check in process has improved but not sure if it's because we are returning patient visit. You go to the front desk, check in at a computer and take a pager with you. Then they page you to a desk and do all the paper work there. After that, you sit down and wait to be called in to exam. They check vitals and then you proceed to exam room. Then you go from exam to xrays, then back to exam room for consult. We did not have to wait long after checking in or waiting in exam room to be seen, or wait long for X-rays, everything was pretty quick today so I was very happy about that. Shriners I believe requires a referral to be seen. Parents need to be on top of scheduling Shriners appointments and not procrastinate with scheduling these visits, you schedule these appointments well out in advance. It is important for families to ensure they come here on time because there are families who travel a lot further away to be seen. Depending the date of the visit, if there's a holiday, like Valentines, Shriners had a ton of toys and goodie bags to give to children from generous donors. I wasn't expecting this since we are outpatient visit. My kids were very happy with the goodies they got. Last time we were there, there were tons of free snacks at the lobby. It is a very kid friendly environment and the staff truly seem to enjoy working with children. They expect good commitment from volunteers too. I remember visiting Shriners years ago as a kid with my parents to make a visit to another family whose daughter flew in from Argentina to get orthopedic surgery at Shriners SLC. This family didn't really know anyone in Utah so through some networking, my parents (also from Arg) found out and we went to go visit them. We discovered they didn't have to pay for her surgery and stay. Children are taken care of here. Definitely consider making a donation to Shriners.

I had an outpatient emergency surgery and couldn't believe the kindness, service and care I received. Nothing about my situation was easy for the staff but they made it work. People stayed late. They didn't treat me like an inconvenience they treated me like a friend and were a joy in a dark moment. I also had my first baby here and when given the choice am choosing to have my second here very soon. It is small and quiet. There are no bells and whistles and pianos. There are just people who have spent their careers here because they love it.

The time, patience, and care that goes into each appointment I have had with any of them have been some of the best that I have experienced. They genuinely care about understanding you and your concerns and have always made me feel comfortable and welcome and most importantly made me feel like I can actually be open and honest with them. However, that is where the "Amazing" fizzles. Reception/front desk staff are just short of robots and don't seem to have any authority or availing to take initiative to find a solution. Seems to be hit and miss but has been mostly a miss for me. So, for LGBTQ+ care, those Dr. mentioned above are STELLAR! However, a health care system is only as strong as its weakest link, and in my experience, the general support staff just do NOT have the same patience, knowledge, or care when it comes to providing quality services.

Preferred Homecare is the company that was to supply this life saving machine to me. I have a 18 month contract that is costing me personally 165.17 average per month. I also found out that Preferred Homecare is billing and being paid 1600.00 average per month for O2 services and my Bi-PAP. When you do the math this 18 month contract comes out to be over 30,000.00 dollars for a machine that sells retail for 2,400.00. I see that as price gouging and taking advantage of a desperate need for medical equipment. It's a no-brainer to understand that "out of need" the medical profession both hospitals and providers are taking advantage of a patients need for medical devices or services. I called United Health and was given the run-around when I brought this up. I hope to be in contact with the Provider Relations Department of AARP United Health to discuss what feels like a gross over payment for goods and resolve this so I can update this as a satisfied customer.
