This spot used to all about tennis. That is, until the pickleball craze manifested itself. There are now 12 pickleball courts here. And the facility is open late. Reserving a court or courts is done via their app. The team in the pro shop is friendly and helpful. The fam, friends, and I try to reserve at least 2 hrs of time Saturdays and Sundays. I've only come here to use the courts at the Sunnyvale Municipal Tennis Center, pickleball to be exact. The tennis and pickleball courts can be used for lessons, tournaments, or just for fun. I certainly had fun engaging in some friendly competition w/ my bf while visiting Las Palmas Park on a Monday. FYI, if you want to reserve in advance, you must have or create a Lifetime Activities account online. We had a positive experience. Checked in at the Pro Shop (they also have a cafe and indoor lounge with tables, seating, and a TV). We were assigned a pickleball court... one tennis court was divided into 4 pickleball courts, and two such tennis courts shared an unfenced gap containing a single shaded table with seating (shared among 8 pickleball courts). It was sufficient for holding our belongings and resting during breaks... and private, considering we were the only ones there for most of our hour rented (note, we probably could have stayed longer cuz there were so many empty courts and they don't seem to be strict about monitoring the courts if it's not busy). Only downside, there was no water available (cafe was closed during our visit, pro shop didn't have any for sale, and the water fountain we found had cobwebs in it), but not a big deal, we just gotta remember to bring our own water next time. Yes there will be a next time, cuz this place is so awesome and we had way too much fun playing this addictive sport! read more

I had a class rained out months ago and I got an email 3 months later about a makeup class on a Sunday afternoon. They never responded to my email saying that I cannot make that class. When I called the office asking about a refund in credits, she refused and replied with "people who sign up for our class actually want to progress their knowledge and skill in the game, and prefer makeup classes over refunds". ???? Beware of the extremely unprofessional responses and lack of coordination when trying to schedule classes that were canceled due to rain. Two stars because despite management, coaches are wonderful and supportive . read more

Took Pickleball classes from Lifetime Activities Sunnyvale. First time taking a pickleball class. Great experience and lots of fun. The classes are held once a week for 6 weeks. Lots of options on class days and time, including weekends. The Courts are well maintained. Lots of trees surrounding the courts which makes for a better experience with the trees providing shade against the sun and overall nice environment. About the instructors, Coach Dan and Tomas, were very patient and proactive in making sure everyone learned the basics on techniques and rules of the sports. They even stayed after class to allow students to practice. Had a lot of fun and appreciated what I've learned that I signed up again. Highly recommend their Pickleball classes. read more

15 pay to play public tennis courts and 4 pickleball courts 10 minute walk from my house. Played tennis regularly 2-4 times a week 1982-2020 until closed March 16 by the pandemic. Reopened May 16, 2020 for singles only from same household. June 15, 2020 unrestricted singles. October 15, 2020 players had to verbally agree when paying for court that only doubles players from same household on each side of the net. Call 1-408-735-7285 eight days in advance, to reserve a court by day of week and time before the pandemic, or online at www.lifetimetennis.com. At night you want courts with good lights, although good is relative here, as these round lights date back to 1976, inferior to the state of art rectangular lights at neighboring city tennis centers. Before the pandemic, I competed for courts with USTA league matches. Place led the nation with up to 130 league teams at it's peak at the turn of the century. The pandemic suspended all league matches. League teams get courts 1,2,3,4,5 and 11 -courts with the best lights, and the courts that dry the fastest -yes it still rains in these years of drought!. Don't know if your court is still wet or drying out? Check out the live cam on sunnyvaletennisclub.org. Rates for residents are $19.50 for 90 minutes, or $22.50 for nonresidents. Courts 3,1,10, 4 and 5 have the best lights. Courts 1,2,3,10, and 13 have single lights in three posts on each side of the court. Other courts have double lights on the outside courts of each pair of courts. Tougher seeing your service tossed ball against the glare of two lights rather than one. Big advantage have a doubles team of one lefty and one righty, as nobody needs to serve into the lights. Get courts 2, 6,8,11, and 12 and you might as well have a white cane -it's that difficult to see the ball at night on those courts, and you will be whiffing balls like a USTA 2.5 player -a rank beginner! Playing a late afternoon match in the summer on courts 1,2,3? Good luck seeing the ball go from the sunny side of the court into the shady side, created by the club house to the west of those courts! After it rains, court 5 is the fastest drying court, along with court 4. In the winter mornings courts 1-5 with southern sun exposure dry the fastest after overnight rains. You are SOL if you get courts 11 or 12 after a rain. Those courts are on raised surfaces, and have sunken so much, that ponds develop during heavy storms -my tennis friend from Mississippi says its deep enough for cat fishing! Courts 12 and 15 are also to be avoided, as you are in SOL when the ball goes over the side fence -ball is lost in tennis heaven. Hit an overhead on court 14 or 15, and bounce it over the end fence, and into dog park it goes! Hitting everything long, including your first serve? Missing your overheads a bit? Time for racket restringing right at the pro shop in the club house. You won't miss your next head hunting overhead -there's my ex! Finally you are SOL when you hit a ball into the junipers next to courts 3,4,7,8,10 and 11. You need gloves to find balls in that prickly mess, and forget about it at night! Like ponds at golf courses - a cemetery for lost balls! Hungry for a meal after tennis? Las Palmas Cafe and Lounge is right next to the club house, and serves smoothies and sandwiches outdoors during the pandemic. However you are going to have to eat while smelling up the place, as they took out the showers at the locker room years ago! read more

I had three classes cancelled due to rain and they refuse to refund my money and they keep saying they will reschedule make up classes. They have not been scheduled yet after 3 weeks. I am super frustrated with management and how they deal with their customers. Extremely rude and unprofessional. I will never sign up for classes again, Lost almost 90 dollars. They reached out to me (not sure because of my review or because of another call I made to inquire about makeup) and have given me a good three weeks advanced notice about make-up options for the tennis camp that got rained out in Feb. This is a much more reasonable heads-up. They also offered to find a time for my two kids for the makeup from the winter class that got rained out. They're at least making efforts to address customer feedback. read more

Lifetime sucks. If you want your kids to have a decent shot at playing in middle or high school tennis as well as USTA tournaments, send them somewhere else. Lifetime is mostly recreational, and they don't prepare kids for high school. My kids were taught bad techniques here, which took a couple of years to get rid of. They never made it to middle school tennis teams after tryouts when they were with Lifetime. Now they ate in a much better competitive program, and they consistently win tournaments and championships. Do not send your kids for tennis lessons at Lifetime. read more

Racket stringing is fast or early if you call night before. Lights are old and some are out. Staff took too long to reply to my emails, I went in person and they handled it that way. In person is more effective then waiting week after week. read more

They did not provide a full refund for a class they cancelled. I understand they pay fees to credit card processing companies, but they need to eat that cost when they cancel a class. If the customer cancels the class, of course a cancellation fee should be charged. They do not even list in their refund policy what happens when THEY cancel the class. read more

NEVER take your kids here. It's the worst place for young kids to learn tennis and the management is a liar. I took my 5 year old here and the coaches here discriminated against kids based on race, how much they know kids and gender. Negative teaching is enforced here except for their favorite kids. The coaches asked me to pull out my child, and the management promised the full refund via voicemail (he even said full refund is already being processed), but it's been several weeks and I don't see any money back. They also ignore my multiple emails and phone calls. This is not acceptable. I'm going to call a small claims court if they don't respond in the next few days again. read more

Review is for adult tennis beginners sessions. Mark is an amazing coach. He has a lot of experience as a tennis coach, would definitely recommend his classes. He explains the logic behind the techniques and often gives relatable metaphors which are easier to understand. I did not play tennis before and after the sessions I know the basics, good enough to play tennis casually. read more

This place is a great tennis center. The courts are very well lit and I had a lot of fun playing tennis for the first time. My guy friends were really patient with me and taught me to hit the ball. After a lot of bad misses, I started getting the swing of things (bad pun, i know. :P ) The courts had a great surface and it was fun just trying to rally. You can only reserve the courts a week in advance. Be quick because they fill up super fast! They also have tennis lessons and tournament games held here. One tip: If you can't reserve a court for the day you want to play, call and check for any cancellations 24 hours before. You can cancel a reservation 24 hours without a penalty fee. read more

Great place! My 6 year old son takes classes along with private lessons. All the instructors, Coach John, Coach Kevin and Coach Kimberly are awesome with young children. The class that my son is currently in is all boys, so what does that tell ya! My son takes private lessons from Coach Kevin Vu, he's very good with my son. Coach Kevin always gives feedback about my son's skills and he is also open to my input on what we want our son to work on for the day. My son's tennis skills have improved. The whole center is very well run. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to play and learn tennis. The only drawback, the parking is very small. Last week Samsung hosted a tennis event there and there was no parking. I was fortunate to find one in the residential area surrounding the park, but it still was a pain. If we didn't find one my son would have missed his class. read more

This is an OK place to play tennis if you are a Sunnyvale resident. If you are not, then it is difficult to reserve a time slot, and the prices are almost double. It is crowded weekday evenings and all day on weekends, but if you call ahead you can usually get 1-1.5 hours worth of playing time on fairly short notice. The courts are excellently maintained and the players are polite about leaving when their time is up. A bonus is Las Palmas Park right next door where you can cool off afterwards with a walk. read more

I have been taking private lessons from Coach John for several months, and he is an excellent instructor. This review is primarily for coach Rick Newman and his tennis clinics. Rick is an awesome tennis coach. He really knows how to make you a better player. I enjoy playing on his clinics. Another update, the pro shop and the restaurant on the premises are no longer there. Looks like the contract for the previous company was up. Hopefully there should be somebody else taking over soon. In the meanwhile the City of Sunnyvale is running it. So the facility is very much open. read more

The coaches pretty much killed off the interest or passion of a youth's by overly working up on boring and lengthy drills such as running, which focused on physical endurance but not much in techniques, and by being super strict and not fun. After a few sessions, my player lost interests and didn't want to come back. I talked to the office about the training method but the receptionist was dismissive, insisting the kids are "older" and are expected, but kids are always kids, if they get bored or worked up, they"ll quit. So much for understanding children's mentality. I am out $$$ and ended in disappointment. read more

This is a very nice tennis center, which I haven't used to play tennis as much as I have to get my racket restrung and to eat at their kabob restaurant. The tennis shop is full of knowledgable pros who are quick at stringing and good at recommending top rackets and equipment. They have a good selection of gear and usually a pretty decent number of staff. The center is large with many courts, the pro shop, a spacious park-Las Palmas, and a nice little kabob restaurant that has absolutely delicious food. read more

This is about adult tennis group lesson. My instructor was not really interested in teaching so as a student, my skill wasn't improving. He didn't teach appropriate level of skill for but just insisted his way of teaching, which I couldn't follow. Simple suggestion like 'can I practice on the other side cause I can't see due to blinding sunshine?' was ignored. He kept telling me I look like someone else even though I said stop. When the instructor doesn't care about your progress, only your money and time are wasted. He didn't even show up for makeup day and office didn't know why. read more

This used to be a good facility but Lifetime Tennis has taken over and has jacked up the price of lessons. It appears they have also gotten rid of some of the instructors. A few years ago these brave and courageous people attempted to teach me how to play tennis. Apparently you have to learn a few things before the whole jumping over the net part, which was my main interest. After multiple lessons, my instructor finally broke the news: he was going into retirement AND moving out of state, and would no longer be able to endure our painful lessons. This tennis center used to be phenomenal. All that's left of its past glory these days are beautiful courts. The prices for group lessons have more than doubled. The size of groups has more than doubled ($80 for groups of four has now turned into $180 for groups of 8 or even more). Coaching seems to be very inconsistent... I won't say bad, they do seems to have some really good coaches, but very inconsistent. Finally, the most deflating thing is...deflated tennis balls! For the amount of money they charge these days you would think they would at least provide you with decent balls - but nope! Even the coaches admit how frustrating it is that they won't give them any decent tennis balls - the ones used to teach group classes are so flat, it's depressing. It pains me to say this because I used to love playing tennis at Las Palmas and its super convenient for me, but I don't think I'll be signing up for any more of their sessions...between the high prices, high # of people in the sessions, coaches showing up randomly and inconsistently, and the horrible quality of the balls...just truly not worth it. read more

Although this is the city of Sunnyvale's Municipal Tennis Center (they own the land, buildings, maintain the facilities, etc.), it is ran and operated by a private company, Las Palmas Tennis (LPT) who rent out the courts and provide lessons. They require reservations: Weekdays (before 4pm): $8/hr for residents,$10/hr non-residents; Weekends (all day), Weekdays (after 4pm), and holidays: $10/hr for residents, $12/hour non-residents. There are plenty of courts (16) though they tend to fill up quickly on nice weekends. Luckily they're well maintained and have lights. read more

The courts are great, and lessons for beginner/intermediate people are pretty convenient. My main complaint is with the pro shop. Juvenile attitude and definitely not service oriented, especially the guy doing the stringing on the weekend. My wife brought her racket in for new strings. Asked them if they could put the existing shock absorber on the racket with the new strings. Guy says okay. Came in next day to pick up racket, and the same guy tells her that he doesn't have the tool to do it... It's called a brain! I did it in 2 minutes with a screwdriver. read more

This review is about 1 week camps held during spring break 2016 for age-group - 4-10. Enrolled my 5 year old son for the 1 week camp. 1.5 hour each day for 5 days . What I observed is the teachers may not be specialized for kids. The frustration teaching this age-group shows up as teachers eagerly waiting for the breaks :-). Result is more of the snack breaks and ball-pickup sessions, than the real practice. May be their adult coaching sessions are better. read more
