I've been to a few shows here. "Immersive Van Gogh" was the first show Lighthouse Artspace showcased and it brought in large crowds mostly due to social media hype. But this immersive experience along with high ticket prices left people both underwhelmed and frustrated. The shows that followed "King Tut", "Nutcracker" and "Monet" were even worse. It's too bad because the art space itself is pretty nice and spacious. It's just that the films themselves aren't very good. Lighthouse Artspace is located at the old Scottsdale Galleria location on the lower level. The escalator takes you to the bottom. Once inside, there are two connected rooms for the immersive viewing experience. There is also a gift shop and a snack bar in the lobby area. read more

This is a wonderful space for any type of art exhibit, either visual, musical or kinesthetic. If you are in downtown Scottsdale, check this place out next time there is an open exhibit. Parking may be a bit of a challenge but all things good come to those who persevere. I was here for the Van Gogh Experience and I was suitably impressed with this environment space. read more

I attended this event with a Yelp elite friend and here are my honest thoughts and a full summary of my experience! Venue: it was very spacious and clean, the location is on the bottom floor and the dim lights really set the mood for an art space! I personally enjoyed the location as it was a good size, clean and very well air conditioned! There was a bar where you could get drinks like wine or beer! And a cute little backdrop for a photo op. They also had a gift shop in the front. Leonardo Da Vinci Immersive Experience: Before you enter the gallery, there is a little room that showcases some of his art and letters. It was a gorgeous little dark room and I loved how the letters were glass so the light reflected onto them, making the letters scatter across the floor. When you enter the gallery the hallway really makes you feel like your stepping into another world. You enter this large space with big screens projecting Leonardo's artwork right before the show. When the show starts they announce it will be starting. The experience was very immersive and I loved how things also projected onto the floor giving it a true immersive experience. I have to add though that some of the projections can be a bit flashy so a warning to those sensitive to lights. Throughout the showing they did give us a few facts on Leonardo and his work but I think I would have liked to know a little more about him. It was definitely more of a show with music, which I can't complain I truly enjoyed, but for artist interested to know about the artist, this is more of an experience, and not a biography. OVERALL EXPERIENCE: I really enjoyed the venue & the setting which really set the vibe for the night. It was a cute little place for a date or even just to go on your own. I docked one star because I did want to learn a little bit more but the overall experience was very enjoyable! This review is only in regards to "Leonardo: The Universal Man" exhibit. Personally, although I did appreciate the 360 projection technology and the beautiful designs that were shown during this 40 minute video, I have to say that the immersive experience was underwhelming. My expectations about this exhibit were that it would be similar to the National Geographic's Beyond King Tut exhibit; however, it lacked engagement. It lacked more tactile sensory experiences and it forced the "audience" to retain information too quickly. One image or text would come on the screen and then it was gone and off to the next subject. I did not have time to appreciate the art. I wanted to stare at the designs more and read the text more slowly. Also, the volume of the narrator is loud but it is difficult to understand what he is saying. However, I appreciated that a transcript of the narration was provided before starting the immersive experience. Regardless, I felt like it was difficult to "get into it" because of the muffle narration. In terms of what to expect, you are put in a room with a bunch of other people and you have to sit (or stand) and watch a powerpoint-like video...and THAT'S IT. Sure you can walk upstairs or go to the "second" room to continue watching the video, but there's not much else you can do. After the exhibit you can explore their giftshop which has some cute souvenirs and/or return to the bar/lobby area which is aesthetically pleasing to view. I appreciate that something like this exists, but I hope in the future the experience can be elevated to engage with the "audience" and provide more time for individuals to take in the information, art, music, and visuals. --15th Review of 2023--- read more

The Yahoo event on May 11 was (as always), well set up, managed and executed. Gretel, her crew and the staff of the Lighthouse Artspace were superb. The exhibit itself was somewhat disappointing due to my expectations and background in this subject (Leonardo and the Renaissance). Roughly half the exhibit presented Leonardo's history and accomplishments while the other half was visual interpretations of the various fields in which Leonardo delved (painting, invention, etc.). For someone with no knowledge of Leonardo this might be an interesting introduction that isn't too much like a documentary. For me, this was a missed opportunity to present Leonardo visually in a way that had not been done before while using the visual space to show how Leonardo saw the world and what was different between his vision and that of his contemporaries. read more

It's been a grip since I've been in downtown Scottsdale- lovely evening & not nearly as busy as anticipated for a Friday night! This place is a little tricky to find, though. There isn't really any signage. We couldn't tell if the valet parking was for the restaurant next door or the art space building- it's for both. Convenient & only $7. Escalators are also convenient- or take the stairs if you're trying to get your steps in! But, the space is quite large & laid out well. Navigating inside is easy. I'm sure things change with each event or exhibit, but the staff was also very friendly & polite. There weren't terribly long lines for anything from entering, the restrooms, concessions, etc. It really was a breeze & we felt comfortable. Masks are currently mandated inside. You will be politely reminded to put it back on if you are taking a bite/drink & forget to replace it afterwords. Not inconvenient, but also a little annoying when you're trying to watch the exhibit. Cash or cards are accepted, so no worries on scrambling to find an ATM. Everything was clean, aside from the restrooms- I kind of wondered if anyone is attending those at all- a little gross. But, the AC doesn't seem to be working properly in this building. It was above room temperature & a bit warm for comfort level when it's 90+ degrees outside. I thought maybe I was just overly excited... then I saw other guests literally sweating. It would have been a bit more pleasant w/ some better circulation & cooler temps. Overall- the exhibit was fantastic! Totally worth it a thousand times over & the space really did fit perfectly for what it was aimed towards. Mesmerizing is putting it mildly! It nearly brought me to tears & the music accompanying the flowing visuals of his paintings totally captured the emotion. I kind of wish they would have offered more seating besides a couple of chairs here & there- sitting on concrete floor for an hour was terribly uncomfortable- even w/ the cushion. Having people constantly walking in front of what you're trying to view while sitting was a bit inconvenient. However, the attendants were consistent w/ ushering people through & w/ two viewing rooms it wasn't terribly crowded. Just tricky to find "circle" on the floor to claim (which reminded me a lot of elementary school, lol). Still, totally worth it for this exhibit, especially if you are a VanGogh fanatic like I am! Word to the wise: the souvenirs are tempting... but WAY overpriced! Most of this you can find online for a fraction. But overall, this was one of the best events I've ever attended & cannot recommend it enough! I'd pay to go back daily, and will definitely be interested in what may be the next exhibit. read more

I was so resistant but finally caved and went. I enjoyed this for 2 & 1/2 hours both the music and visuals. I brought my own pillow and made myself comfy in room one then moved on to the floor in the 2nd room though their were benches. One can ask for a chair too. I was able to zone out in my own space without anyone near me. I thought the staff were very helpful, kind and considerate, shout out to Ash, we made a connection. Parking was easy around the corner for free & ok for 3 hours. read more

We went to this space in Phoenix and a crowd waited and waited to be let in at 11:00 for a Monet Immersion but no staff. After 40 minutes, a fellow ran up to the door and taped a message that is canceled. He immediately ran away with no explanation. People bought tickets, drove there and waited and waited. I attended the Yelp event to preview the Da Vinci Immersive experience. The most enjoyable and interesting part of the event was interacting with the Yelp staff and bartenders. Everyone was very personable and made it feel like you were at the neighborhood hangout. The Da Vinci experience itself was underwhelming. It felt like I was watching a glorified screensaver. Although, the images were related to Da Vinci and his works there was a lot of repetition and many that seemed out of place. There wasn't much context for the images or continuity in the narration which was also difficult to understand because of the reverb in the room. Def did not feel "immersed". It felt more like the visuals and music that are played for goth night at the club. I would not recommend to friends, especially for the price of admission. read more

Went to the Immersive King Tut exhibit over the weekend. What a waste of money! 30 minutes of a sub par CGI fictional story of King Tut's journey to the afterlife as told by Ra. Not a single historical piece of information was shared other than he became king at age 8 and died at 18. This was a waste of my time between the hour round trip to there and back and then the 30 minutes for the "experience". Wish I could get a refund...almost feel as though I was robbed of my money. One star for the facility itself as it was fine in a general sense. read more

We love this space. We visit Scottsdale each year and discovered the Immersive Van Ghgh last year and loved it. This year we went to Immersive Monet (and other Impressionists) and loved it, too. Very creative. We sat in the first/smaller room for one cycle (about 35 minutes) then moved to the larger room for a second viewing. It's not just Monet but other Impressionists, too. Well done and totally enjoyable. Do watch it at least twice. We took our own bleacher cushions as we sit on the floor in the first room. But... We also went to see the Immersive Leonardo - not at all the same. There is so much to show about da Vinci but this show was artsier, less Leonardo. We expected so much more. We are Leonardo fans so we understand his awesome contributions. But if you do not know him, this show would not impress. There was SO MUCH more that could have been added. We did not need 2 minutes of clouds or crystals or objects floating. Did not see the relevance to Leonardo. He was inspirational. This show did nto do him justice. I hope someone re-edits it to include his awesome contributions. Sorry -- we were disappointed in this one. But, we'll be back next spring if there is another. This was a really neat experience and something I would recommend but it is extremely overpriced for what you get. If you were alone in the room with the artwork maybe it would be worth 60-100 a ticket but it gets crowded and you sit on the floor. Definitely not as put together as it should be to really get submerged. However it is definitely something I would check out just heads up it's not really comfortable sitting on the floor watching screens. read more

We have been to 3 exhibits here; Van Gogh, King Tut, and DaVinci. The Van Gogh was terrific. We saw it 3 times with different visitors from out of town. Everyone loved it. The King Tut and the DaVinci were both disappointments and definitely not worth the $50 it cost for a thirty minute program. The facility was very clean and the projections were a good quality, but the content of the Tut and DaVinci was just so so. read more

Wow! My girlfriend and I visited this spot for the immersive Van Gogh Phoenix edition. The gallery light show gave an illusion show displaying the talented man's beautiful art. I heard about this exhibit from NYC but so glad I was able to experience it in a different location. Came here on my third day visiting Phoenix from NYC. Too much crazy music and scenery unrelated to his work that takes precious time that could have been much more educational and informative. My sister and i were both extremely disappointed. This is my review of what I thought would be a great family time to learn about Leonardo DaVinci. Well let's see $200 for four tickets to stare at a screen that doesn't educate you on the mastermind and artist of Leonardo DaVinci. If you enjoy looking at one image over and over with bad music this is for you. If you enjoy sitting in a giant room with a plastic chair that is painful to sit in then or your other option is a harder bench that looks like one that's in a prison. Then the fun begins. You sit in this large room where images are shot onto the walls and you can not make heads or tails of the narration as to what is actually taking place. The reference to King Tut and his journey though the afterlife are not well done visually as they claim and the narration of the video is absolutely hideous, you can not understand one work that the narrator is actually saying. the visuals for this are poorly done and could have been much better. I went to the King Tut Immersion exhibit. I was totally disappointed and totally embarrassed that I paid to sit through basically a floor to ceiling cartoon. I felt scammed. I wasted the cost of the tickets, cost of gas, an hour to drive there, $9 plus tip to park, 35 minutes to watch, and an hour to drive home. A complete waste of time and money. Not much history about Tut, just photos and an imaginary story that was vague and ridiculous. I don't believe I would have enjoyed this exhibit if I had been high on weed. We literally had the WORST experience here at their Scottsdale locatiin today. The staff here are a bunch of bored power hungry "better than you" dictators stand every five feet just waiting to scold you for something. We got all dressed up and spent over $200 to show up to have a "security guard" put his hand 1/2 inch away from my nose and yell at me to wand me to check for weapons, and when I shared a word with him another female staff called me a name, not expecting that I would see or hear her and it got ugly from there. For goodness sake people, IT'S AN ART EXHIBIT. The staff here is so unorganized and/or bored it puts everyone on a power trip. If you take your mask down to take a drink of something they are in your face to make sure you put it back on....even before you're done. "Make sure you pull your mask back up" staring at you while you take a drink. You're also not aloud to stand during the show, which forces you to sit on the dirty floor...in your nice dress up clothes that you wore because it was so expensive. They wouldnt let us sit on a bench because they are reserved for the elderly, that's fine but I am not sitting on the dirty floor! I'm an adult not in kindergarten. After being told twice we could not stand, we just left because of the rude and controlling staff. Don't waste your money here, it's not a great show and you will feel anxious the whole time. We drove from Lansing to see the King Tut Exhibition and we were highly disappointed!! Not only were the graphics terrible I felt someone was using an old slide projector and changing images manually. There was no historical information and definitely no "Wow" factor. I was shocked that this event charged $40-$50 per person and it was just a video of Van Gogh's artwork. This is something you can view on YouTube. I thought there was going to be exhbits, information about Van Gogh's life, history on some of the paintings, etc. This was a HUGE disappointment to me and my three chidren. After we left the room playing the video, one of my kids said, "Is that it?" I even asked a worker if there was anything else because I couldn't believe that's all there was to this "experience." Parking is terrible and there is very little comfortable seating, other than on a cold, hard, concrete floor. I'm really angry I spent my money on this. read more

So underwhelmed and disappointed with this exhibit which was not worth the money. The venue was good, but the so called immersive experience was not. Expected something more informative or historical. The audio could have used improvements in that it was loud but not immersive. Also, expected more of a visual hologram experience of the amazing tomb discovery, but instead got a glorified movie of an fictional afterlife journey. Further, this exhibit appeared to be secondary to the prior Van Gogh exhibit in that both the exhibit entrance (Van Gogh sunflowers) and gift shop (3/4's Van Gogh themed products) appeared geared to highlighting and selling the Van Gogh experience, not King Tut. read more

Went to the King Tut experience and what a disappointing experience it was. Completely overpriced for awful subpar projection presentation. Only 30 minutes in length with no additional exhibits or possible artifacts to review. Really wanted my money back. I would NOT recommend this disaster to anyone. Save your money for something else.
