A nice unique thing to do in Scottsdale when you want to cool off from the oven-like conditions outside but still want to wander around on your feet. Wonderspaces is basically a poor-man's TeamLabs. Large scale immersive and sometimes interactive artpieces arranged in a minimal modernist setting. When I first looked to go here it looked like it was only operating 5 days a week but to my surprise and delight they were open on the Monday that I was in town, so naturally I grabbed myself a ticket for a mental diversion from my workcation otherwise holed up in my hotel. When you check-in, a nice old man explains all the exhibits and points out a few highlights, one of which is a piece where you have to sit still for 20 minutes and let "3 robuts" draw you - cuz when else do you get drawn by a robot? (Well, in the age of AI, is it all that different?) Thankfully it wasn't too crowded when I went otherwise it could get quite backlogged waiting to sit for a digital caricaturist! This was probably the most tedious of the works, so I'll start here, as I had to get the host's attention and he came over and did some set up with the robot arms and the nearby tablet's app. He made small talk with me so as to keep my gaze steady as the robots with their webcams and drawing arms started their work. After a few minutes he left me alone but insisted I stay seated still until all the robots were done. One of the robots worked on me for an extra 8 minutes, so this felt more like a dental appointment than a fun electronic experiment. Another work was very reminiscent of teamlabs with dangling strings of LED lights They made such a big deal of each light having its own IP address, which was an implementation detail that really should not have needed oversharing. The work spoke for itself and the lights synchronized to the music immersively. Another fun one was large dots flipping in such a way that you could tell was capturing your motion and playing it back. And some 3D models spun at high speed with flickering lights to make it look like they were pulsing. Then there was the uninteresting video about a boy growing up awkwardly. Didn't seem to fit the theme of the exhibit. The last large scale piece were large plastic takeout bags almost recalling the nihilism from American Beauty and the futility of consumerism - which I think is the underlying principle that got me to spend money in this museum in the first place. A big crowd pleaser which was a large suspended tapestry was out of commission - you could see it but it was lowered for maintenance, so I missed out on that. Anyway, was it a good diversion? I'm satisfied. read more

Overall this was a really great experiences. I'll start with saying that the space itself for which the exhibits were in, could have some more things done and touches to it. The seating could definitely use an upgrade in every space. This would make a difference immediately and just on its own. The interactive rooms could use some support to hide the supports that create the structure for the display. Why? Seeing the display in certain ways detracts from being lost in the experience. I've been to a couple other exhibits like this and in at least one, the structure was hidden making it more immersive and 'trippy'. It's surprising to me actually, that in such a 'nice and fancy neighborhood' that the little things were lost. I won't go into the rooms much because it's better to experience in person. I love exhibits like this that are interactive and brain activating. They make you wonder and think.. we hence 'WONDER' spaces. Truly so unique and cool to see. *Maybe not worth nearly the cost. There's a variety of things to see, non the same. We sat in each room for min of 15 min with others being a little longer I think. Bestie was in town and she had this genius idea to visit Wonderspaces Arizona. She's been to the San Diego one twice and loved it, so I was excited to see what it's all about. This place is beyond cool! There are different rooms to experience, and each one is truly unique. I think I speak for us both when I say the one with the string lights was the most entertaining visually. The light show lasted about 15 minutes total from beginning to end. When you first walk in through the mall entrance, you'll end up at the bar area. Alex was so nice and very engaging. She answered our questions and whatever you order at the bar, you can bring it with you so don't feel confined to the bar area as you finish your drink! I got the School Rules (mocktail) and bestie got the Mango Colada. They were so good, I finished mine pretty quickly! One of the other exhibits that I enJOYed was the coin flipping one. Whoever thought of all this is amazing to say the least! The face display made out of different sized balls on strings was so cool to see, especially when you walked up to it and to the side of it. We don't have membership, but the older gentleman sitting near the bar informed us that if you pay the $99 fee, you can come as many times as you like and you'll get 20% off any merchandise. He was really informative and we appreciated that he wasn't trying to push it on us. I believe you can also bring a guest for a discounted fee. Some of the exhibits were not as entertaining as others, and I do wish there was more to see, but they do switch it up every couple of months so that would definitely be worth the membership. Don't forget to get your selfies in front of the huge mirror near the bar! I highly recommend coming here if you have out of town guests, or if you've just never been. The bonus is that it's located inside the Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale (same floor as the food court under the escalators), so you can have something to eat or walk around before or after Wonderspaces! It would be a cute date idea, too. I just may buy into the membership because the best part about it is that it does NOT automatically renew. I saw Wonderspaces advertised online for something fun to do in Scottsdale. It is located inside of the mall/Fashion square. It was $32 for a ticket (a bit pricey). It was quite a unique experience however, I walked through the whole place in about 20-30 mins. It was faster than I expected. There were such fascinating works of art involving water, graphics, light, sound, air and other illusory forms. The selection was unique. I really enjoyed the very first piece right when you walk in that essentially mimics you through a video camera. At the end they have 3 robots who can "draw you" in art form. I remember it being over $70 for this. There was a warning for people who have epilepsy due to the flashing lights. The gentleman who greeted me was kind and helped me get my ticket quickly. I don't think I would go back here, but I will say it was fun! read more

Came to Wonderspaces while visiting AZ as it was heavily recommended. It's located inside the Scottsdale Fashion Square. We bought our tickets online and made reservations prior. Upon arrival, we had to fill out a form and then was able to enter. They had so many cool interactive installations! Some installations, I found myself enjoying more than others. I did not think this exhibit was worth the $28+ ticket price. They don't tell you where in the mall this exhibit is located. Fortunately we spotted it in the food court area. The mall was packed!! A big problem is there was no restroom anywhere and I mean ANYWHERE near this exhibit. And one of us needed to go. We got directions several times and walked and walked, up and down levels, down passages until I was hopelessly lost. Very stressful experience and the art exhibit was disappointing. read more

I'm disappointed to be writing this, especially since I previously had a great experience here years ago. I recently visited Wonderspaces Scottsdale with my 6- and 9-year-old great-nieces while they were visiting from Canada for their birthdays. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations at all. We were through the entire exhibit in about 15 minutes, despite it being advertised as a 60-minute experience. There was very little that engaged children, and both of my nieces described it as "boring" by the end. One installation was unavailable, and although a credit was mentioned at check-in, it appeared to be something offered to all guests rather than a meaningful accommodation. Additionally, a short film ("Eli") was shown that my nieces found frightening and not appropriate for young children. Given the cost--$18 per child and $28 per adult--the experience did not provide reasonable value, especially for what was intended to be a special birthday outing. I did reach out to management directly to give them the opportunity to address these concerns. Unfortunately, a refund was declined, and I was offered return tickets instead, which is not a practical solution for out-of-town visitors and does not resolve the core issues. I'm sharing this so other families, especially those with young children, can make a more informed decision before visiting. read more

Although it looked unassuming at first coming through the mall, I was very impressed with Wonderspaces! It's a really cool art gallery with multiple interactive exhibits for all ages. The layout of the gallery is fun, with exhibits behind curtains or immediately around corners. Give yourself about an hour to move throughout the entirety of it. It's definitely worth it! Great spots for photo ops, too. They have a full bar to grab a drink and take with you throughout. It's a great date night spot or way to beat the heat! read more

I went to Wonderspaces as part of a group outing for work back in May of 2019 and we enjoyed it... It's a fun, unique experience with an evolving lineup of art installations. It's now almost five years later, and when I was trying to think of a fun activity for my daughter and I and another mom/daughter, I thought of Wonderspaces... We went there on Friday night and it was a perfect little activity. We made a night of it by visiting Wonderspaces, doing a little shopping at the mall, and then having dinner at Moxie. We enjoyed the interactive exhibits, colors, all different formats of art, and especially the current Notes on Blindness: Into Darkness VR experience. Rules and Radiance were also favorites! If you're seeking something different and fun for people of all ages and interests, this is something I'd recommend. I think they suggest 75 minutes, but we were in and out within less than an hour. read more

My girlfriend and I visited while in town and it was a super unique experience. Compared to LA, $25 per person seemed fairly priced. Despite the venue being a bit small, there were a good amount of different exhibits, the selection was solid for the size. They had various exhibits and multiple rooms, my favorite was the one with beanbags where you can lie down and look at the ceiling projections. She was very friendly and pointed out details that we hadn't noticed. Our favorite cocktail was the Gooseberry Marigold Mule. We refilled a few times and were given a clean glass at the end to take home as a souvenir. We spent 90 minutes there and could have stayed longer! (Dang early school release day). It was quiet and therapeutic. Honestly, when we first arrived, we thought we'd breeze right through. Unfortunately, it was disappointing and felt like a rip‑off. For the $120 price, we expected a larger exhibit with more variety, but you can walk through the entire space in under ten minutes. What a fun attraction! To begin with, the location. It is right inside of the mall so you can do some shopping before or after. It is recommended to buy tickets beforehand which I did and once I got there all I had to do was sign a waiver. Service was great and there were guides throughout that were willing to answer questions and tell you more about the artwork. You could also scan a code and though a chat ask more about the art and artists behind them. There are a total of 14 interactive exhibits ranging from virtual reality to short films. Such a cool addition to busy Scottsdale Fashion Square. The exhibit is small for $25 entry, but there's a lot of unique and interactive art I haven't seen before. You can book ahead to save time. This was a very cool spot, the art displays were interesting to look at and most of them were interactive in some way. Whether you want to stand and observe a piece for a while or find some amazing photo opportunities there was a lot to enjoy. The bar was a cool touch, but keep your eyes open for signs- some of the rooms have requests to leave your drinks outside while you enjoy it. The drinks were delicious and at the end of your visit you could take home a jar and lid with the Wonderspace logo as a keepsake. A bit of the exhibit was closed when we went, so we're not sure what we may have missed out on but all the rooms were enjoyable. They even had extra safety/germ precautions for the VR space with an eye cover. Wonderspaces makes for a good date night, friends outing, or space to cool off on the hot AZ summer heat. Located in a mall, Wonderspaces is a series of art exhibits and displays. Some are interactive, some are more for observation. All are visually interesting. Bring your camera for a cool selfie or new profile pic! What's extra nice is that Wonderspaces has a bar. You can grab a drink and wander the rooms with it, which makes things even more fun! Personally I spent about 30-45 minutes seeing everything here. I wish it would've been a bit longer - perhaps with more exhibits, or more interactive ones to use more time. The installations do rotate though, so I'd be open to visiting again! read more

I enjoyed my visit at Wonderspaces back during Black Friday in Phoenix. We were about 5mins behind our scheduled time though they were pretty relaxed about the times given it wasn't busy. If you're in Phoenix, I think this is worthwhile to add to your itinerary for about $25USD pp. We spent about 1.5 hrs there. Like most of Arizona, this place has a more relaxed mask mandate rule than where I'm from. Masks were not required as long as you're vaccinated though I don't recall them checking our vaccine proof. It wasn't crowded at all so we could socially distance and most people that were there were in a mask for the most part. My favourite display is the lighted-up igloo/dome. I can see myself sitting in there and just meditating for hours and getting mesmerized by the lights. They played the Black Hole VR experience when I went. Though I've heard they switch up the VR and installations throughout the year, the frequency I'm unsure. The people working there are very knowledgeable and would answer all your questions about the displays if needed. There is a bar, though there wasn't anyone drinking during the afternoon when we went. read more
