This church is very welcoming to ALL. Many LGBTQ+ people attend and afterwards they had a nice social gathering with some nice food bites and dessert. Excellent congregation.

They are part of 5,600 churches with over 1.3 million members although every church governs itself independently. This is a Protestant church and they are proud to align themselves with the Congregationalists who took a stand against slavery in 1785 with the ordination of the first African-American Protestant pastor, who in 1853 saw the first woman ordained as a Christian pastor, who in 1972 saw the appointment of the first LGBT pastor in a mainstream Christian denomination, and who celebrated marriage equality in 2005. "Our faith is over 2,000 years old, our thinking is not" and "All are welcome." United Church of Christ is an ONA church meaning open and affirming. "(ONA) means that we have publicly declared that "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, questioning" (LGBTQ) people (or those of all "sexual orientations") are welcome in the full life and ministry (i.e. membership, leadership, employment, etc.). It bespeaks a spirit of hospitality and a willingness to live out that welcome in meaningful ways. Transgender people or gender identity and gender expression are increasingly included in ONA declarations, statements or policies." One of the church's main outreach programs is Ruth's Ministry which has feeding and clothing those in need for over 18 years. Guests attend an optional church service on Thursday mornings and then are served a meal and given referrals for temporary housing, clothing, and toiletries. Ruth's Ministry provides over 8,000 meals a year. United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale also partners with many community organizations such as Out of the Closet, Poverello, Smarty Pants' annual Pet Project fundraiser, the KiKi Project and HIV Testing Center of The Pride Center, Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida, World AIDS Museum, along with many others. They are also passionate about social justice. I found out about United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale when I stopped in for a yard sale raising money for their ministries. I love this church it's a true Lauderdale by the sea landmark. The original church sits back a ways from the newly erected church. To me the original small building that was once my church is what I love best about assumption. You used to be able to access it from my neighborhood bel air until they built a wall and apartments closing off our community entrance. I hate that. It seems I'm here too many times for funeral masses. Whether or not you're a parishioner of this church it's always a nice church to attend and Easter service or midnight mass on Christmas Eve. I will always consider it my church because I basically grew up in this church. Fond memories of beginning life and ending life all happened here for me and everything in between.

I never attended any of their services but I came back on a Saturday if I remember with the homeowner of my efficiency apartment to collect the deposit before I could move in, ...and we were sitting inside the dining room area and the church members offered us free food from Popeyes that they ordered that day. These people at this church were extremely friendly and hospitable. Hugs to all here!

For the past 14 years, our family has been blessed to call Community Christian Church home. Our kids were raised in the youth ministry, surrounded by leaders who genuinely care, invest their time, and lead by example. Watching them grow spiritually here has been one of the greatest gifts as a parent. My son Gino especially developed a deep love for the church and for God's Word through this community. Now, as he prepares to graduate high school and pursue pastoral leadership, it's clear how much of an impact this church has had on shaping his path. His hope is to one day return and teach the Word of God right where it all started, and that says everything about the kind of place this is. The people here are authentic, welcoming, and committed to living out their faith. The teaching is strong, the leadership is genuine, and the sense of community is something you don't find everywhere.
