I have been coming here the past 6 years! This place is never busy, always has nice employees, and is a little less expensive than other theaters. If they would allow customer to purchase tickets ahead of time it would be even better! I love that they have deals, example Tuesday's: Free Popcorn day, Wednesday: $7.00 movie day! It's also located in a lovely area in Pacific Grove where you can have a date night at a nice restaurant and walk over to the cute movie theater! Always plenty of seating, comfy chairs, and a delicious smell of popcorn! Just check movies and movie times since it's a small theater and they don't always have all of the movies! Enjoy! read more

Me and my sister came here after a long day of walking around Pacific Grove. This theater definitely delivered as far as ticket price and concession stand taste went. It was nice seeing a cute little theater like this that was still standing after all the giant movie theaters like Edwards and Century took over the movie entertainment business. The only reason I rated the theater down a star was because after the show, I went to the bathroom and they were absolutely horrendous. One of the toilets literally had an entire full roll of toilet paper in it. read more

I love our little theater and do everything to support it. The fact that they offer free popcorn on Monday nights, discount Tuesday's for locals and monthly vintage movie showings is just some of the reasons why I will continue to go to Lighthouse Cinemas instead of the big theater at the mall. I absolutely ADORE this charming old theatre. A couple of times a month, my husband and I come here for $5 movie Tuesday's for our date night. Staff is always friendly, and the whole vibe of the place takes you back to another era, a time when going to the movies was far more special and romantic. The screens are obviously much smaller, so if there is some major action movie blockbuster that you want to see on the big screen, go find an IMAX. But for most films, this is perfectly adequate and you can't beat the prices and ambiance! Enjoy! read more

I agree with everyone here. The theater is a nice little place and does have it's ins and out. The staff is very friendly and have really good customer service. As the Assistant manager there we are not perfect but we try to accomidate everyone that steps in to our doors, any comments you have you can always talk to one of the managers we are always happy to have them. I love this cinema! In reading the many reviews, a Harry K from 2010 writes about "middle to upper class whites" of Pacific Grove enjoying this theatre. What's absurd is the demographic of middle to upper class in the USA is not $50K-$60K a year households which is what PG is (barely middle class with 1:4 living in poverty in CA, and the new humane law to permit the homeless to sleep in their cars in PG so they are safe from harm) and wonder what the heck the economic and color demographic has to do with this cinema? And then it became clear; PG had to apologize for being "Racists" in 2012. A little doggie and a Google search reveals a long and ugly history of racism against Chinese, "Turks" and "Negroes" and specifically notes a local eatery Toastie's as most racist of all (#1 Google search). And what does this have to do with this Cinema? It makes a terrific film about an old a poor CA town on the verge of bankruptcy, with a wonderful place to escape to: very Last Picture Show. With the drama and tragedy of despair and economic down turn in a town so beautiful it takes one's breath away. PG is holding onto a wonderful and almost classic and exquisite cinema with old (and not too warn) vervet chairs, both roomy and soft. Cozy and comfy (which tip back and support your neck)... Oh sure, it's too large a theatre to adequately heat, however part of the fun and charm is to bundle up and sit in chairs large enough to curl into if your kids are small, with theatre staff who are both personable and genuinely delightful. With sound quality which is quite good. And always a variety of movies to see. In this Last Home Town in America, it may not be a progressive town or inclusive (hating on outsiders and true bigotry which many are proud of) at least at this theatre they are trying to show a different story line: one which includes stories for everyone. I love this theatre. I love Pacific Grove. It's one of the most beautiful places in the world, truly. Is it racist and bigoted? Sure it is. They do not pretend not to be. They do however have a theatre which is courageous enough to get past their small town ignorance (as it boarders on poverty fiscally and psychologically) but which has the wisdom to show movies which reach beyond Light House Ave and the White Face display of Feasts of Lanterns as cringeworthy entertainment -- the ever uncomfortable display of out of touch Black Face with an Asian spin. Pagrovians did, after all allegedly try to run the Chinese out by darn near burning the place down years who--a little like the alleged "24/7" painted on John Steinbeck's door to chase him away after East of Eden or Grapes of Wrath because the intolerance and hatred of his writing was so enraging to otherwise civil minded folks. And with the Holman building across from this theatre still an economic tragedy...can someone please script "East of Butterflies": tell the story of this magnificent town full with natural beauty, with a complex and sometimes dark and tragic history, and please let us see it with all its beauty marks and warts in the sweetest small town theatre with big cozy seats. And please turn up the warm (the human kind) because to bring a coat or extra sweater is always easier than erasing decades of abject indecent bigotry. Even in America's last home town by the sea. The former PG police Commander just got more time in prison for stealing a plethora of guns from a local school where he was a fire arms instructor after threatening to slit his wife's throat and go on a shooting rampage after victimizing locals in a scam . If Clint Eastwood were not too old, Dirty Harry would be perfect to clean up the corruption by the sea. No matter how ya slice it, it all makes for terrific story telling in film. And there is no better place to watch it! Very Payton Place, indeed. read more

This is the way I remember going to movies as a kid. There is no screaming horde, no lines, no parents dropping their kids off, etc. It's not in a mall but still in the downtown of one of America's best little towns. The area is safe, the theater is extremely clean. The parking is phenomenal and plenty of dining establishments within walking distance. I try to always go here whenever I want to see a movie and the prices can't be beat. Not only do they always have a military discount. matinee is any movie before 6 and I've noticed a lot of start times are around 5:45. If all you care about is stadium seating in a dirty theater, don't come here. If you want a clean theater with at a great value without everyone else's kids talking over the movie, this is the place to go. read more

I usually love this theater, but my friends and I went to see "Logan" today at 1710 (obviously you can see the date next to my posting). What really annoyed me was that my friend wanted to see the preview at the end (I guess all marvel movies have them), and while we were waiting, I heard 2 girls talking rudely and loudly about us and why we weren't leaving. Look, we paid for the ticket, and if we want to sit through all the credits and wait till the preview, we will. We paid till the moment the screen goes blank. Then, I'm sure it's one of the loud and rude girls, is on her phone while my friend is trying to ask her if there was a preview for Logan. She was so engrossed on her phone she didn't even hear him ask the question the first time. She was completely rude and unfriendly w no smile (thin, curly brown hair in a ponytail, white, bout 5'4"). It's like, put down the phone for just a second. read more

A great local theater. Only four theaters in here, but it has a great selection of first run movies. Also it's far cheaper than every other theater in town and has specials like free popcorn Mondays that keep you coming back. Always clean, has friendly people, and no screaming kids or idiot teenagers talking through the movie like at the mall theater. Also has classic movie Thursday. If a movie doesn't play at this theater, I'll wait for it to come out on video. read more

I'm a regular at this theater and see a film here on the average of once a week. Great location, ample parking, etc. However, I'm so tired of paying $6 for a small popcorn of marginal quality. To get any deals, one must order a large (with free refills) but that doesn't help the single viewer. Please come up with something a bit more affordable for the single viewer. read more

I did not like my experience at this movie theater. The screens are extremely small, and the entrance in the auditorium is directly behind the audience so when anyone gets up to go use a restroom the entire room lights up. The "exit" sign is directly next to the movie screen, which can be very distracting during the show. Another thing what I found odd is how thin walls are, we could hear the movie playing on the other side of the wall. read more

Lighthouse Cinemas deserves 5 stars! They have the latest films, comfortable seats, clean theaters, special showings of great classic films/ballets/operas, discount days, and free popcorn days. We might add that their popcorn is the most delicious of all theaters in Monterey County! The staff is friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. We live in Del Rey Oaks but drive to Pacific Grove for movies to support the excellent Lighthouse Cinemas. You should too! read more

Everytime we visit Pacific Grove, we make it a point to go to this movie theatre to watch the latest movie. Good prices, especially for seniors. Seats are comfy and the theatre is rarely crowded. No long lines to get in and friendly people behind the food counter. Kind of a throwback to better days when it was relaxing to go see a movie. Love it! read more

Quaint as this place may look, it is NOT historic. I remember when it was built--from the ground up--about 20 years ago. Now, some may think that's really old, but historic? There WAS an older theater in town even at that time (across the street), but it had been closed for many years. Please continue to support Lighthouse Cinemas as a local business. It was nice having a theatre within walking distance of my bed and breakfast but I most certainly won't be back. My major complaint is that after the ads finished and the previews were about to start the volume was raised to the point that it actually hurt my ears. I complained to the guy selling tickets and was told that was normal and that the volume would go back to normal when the feature started. I told him that didn't make sense and that it was TOO LOUD so he zipped through a side door to 'fix' it but nothing changed. We decided that if the volume didn't lower when the feature started we'd get a refund and leave but the guy was right in that the volume did indeed go back down. Why he would think that was normal and acceptable is beyond me. My other complaint is that I was looking forward to popcorn but the looks and lack of the great popcorn smell made me think it had been made hours earlier which I don't doubt since I went to the last show of the day. Love Lighthouse Cinemas! I remember they used to be open years ago and closed down. Was very glad when they re-opened! I love being able to walk to the movies from my house. I like going to this theater because it's not overloaded with people and the theater is nice. Don't buy the hot dogs though. The hot dog was so bad that after a couple bites, I threw it away. I wonder why business owners don't try their own food and realize when a product needs to be changed. read more

This cinema does a wonderful job of showing all kinds of films which cater to many tastes. I love that they host many cultural viewings and themed film series. In the past I really enjoyed their French film festival where I saw a wonderful animated film called "le magasin des suicidés". The cinema rooms are comfortable and of a generous size for a small theater, but the screen is far up front and low so that you don't feel crammed. I just saw The Lobster there this evening and I was happily surprised that this theater would show something that I consider off-beat and artsy. Great small-town cinema! read more
