My only concern is that I see as of the last few weeks (July 2022), the hours have been cut back and movies are only shown in the afternoon and evening. What a treat to step into my hometown theatre, Lighthouse Cinemas! I love, love this place!! A smaller theatre like this one reminds me of days gone by when a family could afford an afternoon at the movies. The seating is very comfortable, sound was great, and the place was very clean. It was a bonus that each time I've been I can always find a good seat, no problem! But listen, here's the best part, Rachel, the assistant manager was so very thoughtful and helpful it was a pleasure to spend the afternoon in her theatre. Burnt popcorn smell created smoke not only in the lobby but also in the theater. Aw! Hard to breathe. Additionally, it was hard to focus on the film at times due to the loud film next door. Sound proofing would help. read more

These theatres are in an historic building a half block from the flat we're renting. We noticed yesterday when we arrived in town that "UP" was playing. We were planning to go to the 3:30 show today and then there was a power outage all over town. By the time power was restored it was about 3:15 so we decided to wait for the 5:45 show since we doubted they would have it together for the 3:30 show. We walked over to the theatre. Matinees are shows before 6:00, so we paid $6.50 each. The man selling tickets was friendly in a small town way. The theatre was large and clean and the seats were comfortable. We've been to several movie theatres in the area over the years and this is easily the nicest and most comfortable. We loved "UP" and the short film that preceded it. It's called "Partly Cloudy" and was about clouds making babies for storks to bring to humans and animals and we agreed it was adorable. read more

A great neighborhood movie theater. Although the theaters are small, they aren't too small, and the coziness only increases the comfy factor. Besides, the overall feel is much nicer than any omnimultimegaplex I've ever been to. The thing that makes or breaks a movie-going experience is the audience. Are they considerate? Do they realize they're in a public space? Have they turned off their Personal Electronic Leashes™ (i.e., cell phones)? have they left inappropriately-young children elsewhere? Do they keep their pie-holes shut during the movie? All in all, the answers are "yes" for the Lighthouse Cinemas. Would it be "bigoted" of me to point out that the majority of customers here are middle- to upper-class white folks, or at least people who share those values? Even if it is, I heartily recommend this theater--unless you're the type who likes to blabber during the movie, check your Personal Electronic Leash™ every ten seconds, bring babies or toddlers with you (and don't take them out when they start to cry or fuss), and/or strew litter about the theater. I love this theater! For people that just like going to see a movie and are not caught up on the size of the screen and stadium seating, you will like this place! The food is cheaper than the other big players and you can always get a military discount - YEAH! This is an adorable neighborhood movie theater that offers the first runs but with no crowds and easy parking. The folks that work there are super friendly and always smiling. We went here for the first time this weekend and probably have a new favorite theater. If you want to come see a new release and don't want to stand in line for 45 minutes and fight for a seat, come here! It is the best in town, and maybe because it is the only one. I like their summer kids deals, I like their special night prices $6.5. Though they don't have 3D movies but they choose nice movies. As I said pacific grove is a small town and I think if you're staying in Pacific grove and you want to watch a movie with your kids then you should visit this place. They also have free popcorn on Mondays and their popcorn is really fresh. I will give them 4 stars because of the 3d and because their chairs are average. read more

My sweetheart and I wandered in after dinner one night during our recent trip to Monterey, conveniently in time for a 10pm show. This little theater is cute and clean, and the staff is nice. Lighthouse 4 cinemas may not be the most glitzy, but it is by far your best value for a friendly, affordable first-run theater in the Monterey area! Matinee for $6 before 6pm every day, $5 Tuesday's, and $6.50 military. Sure, normal evening price is $9.00, but other theaters in town will charge you that for every showing without any discounts available. Now, this is a hometown, 4 screen theater. So don't expect stadium seating, tons of screens, or snack bars with pizza, chicken nuggets and café lattes. Another bonus is their summer kids movie screenings of classic kid stuff, and winter releases on Thurs and Fridays of silverscreen classics like Psycho, The Ten Commandments, and The African Queen. Worth adjusting your movie going habits for in order to save a buck and still get to go out to see great, first-run movies. Plus, no 3D. Ever. =) read more

I agree with the first reviewer, SUPPORT THIS THEATER! It has been closed before, DON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN! I love being able to walk to the theatre. I only had the opportunity to see a movie at Lighthouse one time before they closed down. I had only lived in town for a month or so and I was very upset that they closed. Both my fiancee (who moved out here after they closed) and myself were excited when it was announced that Lighthouse would re-open. They get a lot of the big movies that are out and the workers are very nice and competent (unlike the Century). It's fantastic that this area has to small local theaters (OSIO Cinemas, which is also fantastic and probably one of the coolest independent theaters I've been to). There were a few rough spots when they first re-opened, mostly involving audio issues but luckily they worked out those problems. Lighthouse has a few promotions that they do (Free popcorn Monday and a discount on Tuesdays for non main attractions). If you are local sign up for their e-mail list and you will get a coupon for free popcorn! It is small but who said that's a bad thing? Do yourself a favor, have dinner at The Red House Cafe and walk down to Lighthouse Cinemas and enjoy a film. read more

This is the cleanest theater I have ever been in. From the front door to the lobby to the cinema itself everything was clean as a pin. I even slipped my shoes off during the movie (long day of walking and my feet were aching) and found nothing sticky or gooey on the floor. The seats are comfortable and we did not hear a sound of the other movies being played. We also appreciated that it was a short walk from our B & B on safe, quiet streets. read more

Nice little theatre, i was very disappointed that they didn't get Narnia, my kids wanted to go see it. I talked to one of the managers there and he was so nice to answers all of my questions. They tried to push for Narnia and that was one of the no-brainer kids movie to get, but as a smaller theatre is harder to get new movies when there's a lot of movies coming out at the same time...... Anywhose, the staff is very nice and can be very accommodating. I might be a bit biased but i would really love this theatre to succeed and don't want it to got out of business... Sound quality in Theater 1 was lackluster. The main issue is the volume was too low. The commercials shown before the movie was not sharp, appeared to be from a different projector, and was repeated every 2-3 minutes. Boring. = l Their seats and room size were fine for a small town. read more

I love this theater. The size of the auditorium is perfect for an intimate movie night. The staff is friendly, it's clean and other movie goers seem to respect other movie goes by keeping quiet during the shows. I just wish they would get the "better" films. But that's not their fault. I find that the staff is friendly, and they give free popcorn for Monday matinees. The only thing is, midweek matinees appears to be wheelchairs and walkers. Small town with a theater that feels like home. All the rooms are pretty quaint and so is their screen size. If I wanted the bigger screen when 100x more the people I would go to another place. All seats in the theater are good and comfortable. I have used my movie pass on several occasions here since January and never did I have a problem. I always come with someone but when buying a ticket I always tell them "one" so that way I can use the app. This theater can get crowded especially if there is a special event. They hosted " The Last Unicorn" with Peter S Beagle, signing books and memorabilia a few years back which was a success in my humble opinion. Their restrooms seem to be always clean and concession is limited, but they have popcorn, what more can one ask for while watching a movie. There is a sign that the concession is open for the public so no need to watch a movie to pick up some buttery popcorn. read more

My wife and I are frequent patrons of this theater. Today was unsatisfactory. The outside temperature hovered around 50 degrees but the theater was colder at the 11 a.m. showing. Probably due to cold soak all night and not heat. My wife asked an attendant to heat the room and he said he would look into it. Nothing happened. An hour later, very uncomfortable now, I asked him again. He said the heating system needed repair. I then asked if it was possible to turn off the recirculating fans off in the theater as they were just blowing cold air around. He tried adjusting the thermostat but there was no result. We would have walked out but wanted to see the movie. Such a low temperature is a health issue and the heating system should be made operational ASAP. read more

Fun place to watch a movie while visiting Pacific Grove. Get there 15 minutes early if you plan to buy snacks. Really quaint, charming small town theater. I went on a Tuesday, which seemed to be discounted because our tickets for an 8:15 pm showing were only $6! Order popcorn--they had free cheese seasoning, which was a fun extra. I came here a few months ago when visiting Monterey, and I wish I lived nearby so that I could watch every movie here. The theater was more or less empty, which meant my friends and I got the room to ourselves, and tickets were reasonably priced ($6.50 each). The screen admittedly isn't very big, but the overall movie experience was delightful and the staff stupendously friendly. My party meant to purchase two bags of popcorn, but the staff instead encouraged us to buy one large and gave us our free refill on the spot in a separate container, so that we essentially got two delicious large popcorns for the price of one. read more

I've been in town about 6 weeks and I've already been to this theater 5 times. It's a nice little cinema; the staff are always friendly and cheerful. Ticket prices are good, especially on Tuesdays ($5 all day for non-3D flicks), or with a military ID ($6.50) anytime. Used to be free popcorn for all on Mondays; that's changed - now you need to present your loyalty/rewards card. But you should have one anyway, because you'll want to come back! I give 4 stars instead of 5 because I've been spoiled by the little indie theater I frequented in Key West (The Tropic Cinema). I'd love to see some of their distinctions replicated at Lighthouse: beer and wine at the concession stand, real butter for the popcorn instead of that artificial junk, mixing bags for popcorn, maybe more shake-able popcorn flavorings (not the stupid pre-packaged junk, but real herbs and things). So far, all I've seen on the marquee at Lighthouse are studio films; I wouldn't mind seeing more indie/foreign language offerings. Pie-in-the-sky desires aside, though, I'll take Lighthouse over the Del Monte theater any day of the week. read more

I wish more places like this existed still. Everywhere you go these days has stuck up kids running the theater and a urban-rundown environment on the inside of it. We come here often but won't be back anymore. My 12 year old son was ripped off here. He went to buy a medium soda and medium popcorn. Handed them a $20 bill and was given $1.25 in change. How the heck does that cost that much when a medium soda is about $5 and a medium popcorn about $7? The manager Mac assured me that he would "look into it" and give me a call back, of course I never received a call. I'm so disappointed that this place would take advantage of kids and rob them of their hard earned money. I refuse to give them anymore of my business ever again. read more

I am really glad this theatre existis in PG. I haven't had a chance yet to catch the classic films, so I will focus on the "regular" movie going experience--- the staff is friendly and helpful, the seats are comfortable, the candy and popcorn are not more over priced than other theatres, it really is great to have a home town theatre. Only downside I notice is that sometimes the sound is off or the projector is working right, but the staff can be wakened up--I see this happen in many theatres so it's no big issue with just this place, you just have kids managing it...anyway, definitely worth going to! read more

The other night we went for the 8:10 showing of the Second best exotic marigold hotel and we were the only ones in the theater! lighthouse is probably the most well propped theater i have ever been on and my god the painting are amazing in their wall. the best ive seen ever. BUt... remember props does not cover all the aspects of the theater experience. The screens are fairly small and the concessions stand is not very pleasing. The best they have to offer is their cafe which is great but i prefer the classic goodies. This theater is average its not a wow it does show the beauty but not the wow of fun. i highly recommend if your off age around 55+. The fun factor isnt really there. hopefully they stay in business still. Jack read more

Admittedly I may be a somewhat biased reviewer. My grandfather built Lighthouse Cinema and the beautiful sepia paintings of Hollywood Stars that you see along the hall to the restrooms were painted by my grandmother. I have always loved this theater. It is charming, simple, dignified- holds so many memories of the summers I spent in Pacific Grove as a kid. My grandfather's father was a sardine fishermen in Monterey when he immigrated from Sicily. When the sardines disappeared he went into the theater business and built a home in PG. Our big family would spend time there together when I was little. I live far away and it broke my heart when I heard the Lighthouse had closed. For a long while it was run by a different company. It once again belongs to our family & I am very excited to be taking my little ones (ages 5,7, & 8) to PG this July. For the first time they will be able to see the Lighthouse Cinema and watch a movie there. So thank all of you who supported this little struggling theater! It is a very special place & I hope it will survive for many more generations to enjoy. I hear my cousins have some big plans for making improvements there, so those of you who had a bad experience, I hope you will give it another try. read more

I love this little theater! It is not the most high tech/impressive theater (it doesn't offer stadium seating or a particularly large screen), but it is a key part of PG's downtown. It is conveniently located, ticket prices are much more reasonable (than say at the IMAX on Cannery Row), employees are friendly, they have free popcorn days, they have their own parking lot, they accept credit cards, and it is never over crowded. I read that in the past, this theater has closed, and I hope it does not close again. I like the feel of this theater and think it fits perfectly into "the last hometown." read more
