    First-Time Frame Loom Weaving Class

The first class I signed up for was First-Time Frame Loom Weaving with Meredith Donnelly for five weeks for $220. Meredith emailed us with links to their favorite local locations to purchase supplies and videos they created to use as tutorials if we needed help outside of class. Meredith was perfect for my learning style by having the class watch a demo of her doing new techniques and then we would practice them on our own. She also started the course with information about the history of weaving and provided you with a packet they curated containing all the techniques we were to learn! Jake Wobig was training as an instructor at the time and they brought their own unique insights to the class as well. The second class I took was Beginning Watercolors with Jen Adams-Wells for 10 weeks for $440. I suggest taking an introduction to drawing class before taking Beginning Watercolors with Jen as there is little demo on drawing techniques unless you ask for assistance. Jen is always happy to help if you ask and walks around the class checking in on each student to see if they have any questions. A typical class setup with Jen is being introduced to a still life at the beginning of class and you using the rest of the time exploring the medium on your own and Jen there if you have questions.

Boy, pottery has sure evolved from the usual rustic hippie style we used to see. But it's not just pottery or ceramics anymore for Lill Street, evolving itself from that little studio on Lill to the three-story industrial loft, studio, classroom, gallery and cafe space, boasting a collection of ceramics, jewelry, fine art, fabrics, sculpture and more. This building is a phenomenal testament to the local Chicago arts community and the diversity of talent within it. I have not taken classes here, but there are many available, but it is always part of my holiday shopping routine. I wandered all three floors during their holiday open house, and was amazed at the size and scope of the facility and the amount of quality art available in the gallery. It's fun to wander through all the individual studios, meeting the artists (and eating their cookies-probably only available for open houses), browsing the endless rooms and watching the creative process. The indoor imbedded cafe boasts an attractive array of light entrees, salads and pastries and pies. Lill Street is a great place to find unique gifts, spend an indoor weekend afternoon browsing, or for anyone who is looking to discover their inner artiste. A real Ravenswood neighborhood gem. And easily accessed by public transit, just steps away from the Montrose Brown Line stop. Support your local artisans and pay it a visit. And don't miss the work of Gary Jackson, David Crane, and Eric Jensen, which were by far my favorites.

I recently attended a photography workshop here with Christopher Schneberger. He went over travel photography as well as the basics on using the controls of the DSLR. He had a powerpoint presentation, as well as handouts to follow along. It was so informative and well-prepared and the two hours were jam-packed with knowledge and inspiration. The Art Center itself is an adorable old building with a cafe on the ground floor. They offer so many great classes that look amazing. I would definitely enroll in some if it wasn't SOOO far away. If you live nearby...GO!

My friend and I came here during one of their free public workshops for the public - we did some ornament making, where they had plenty of different shaped clay ornaments (stars, hearts, snowmen) to decorate to your heart's content - in the studio, they had sparkling pom poms, paint, glitter glue, buttons, and other little sequins and feathers that you can decorate your piece of artwork with. Staff was available and ready to assist. This art center also offers class for adults and kids (Kidstreet) in courses such as: printmaking, painting, drawing, ceramics, textiles, metalsmithing and jewelry, photography, glass, and even summer camps for kids. The courses for kids are by age range, depending on their hand-eye coordination and abilities. There's even a little cafe in there where you can buy hot beverages and baked goods, as well as a store that features some of the local artists' work, greeting cards, home decor, and fun little knick knacks that you can purchase. +free public workshops available

Gorgeous mosaic on the outside wall of the art centre!

Just walking in the front door will stimulate your creative energy. What an amazing concept of pulling all of these creative souls together for a place of teaching, learning, creating and sharing. I LOVE IT!!!!

DO patronize this place. I've been coming here for a bit over a year and have had a wonderful time…read moredoing so. I've learned how to make figures, mugs, bowls, vases, and how to glaze them in so many different ways. The owner Meg will be sure to show you physical examples and lend you books if you have an idea of a piece you want to do or a color you want to try, and she'll talk you through the steps but still say it's your piece to do what you want with! They also have a wonderful scholarship program that I've been able to utilize from time to time and if you buy a mug from their wall it goes towards that fund. I am so grateful to have found this community and to be able to learn in this kind and open space.

After reading a recent review by Rianna D., I had to check out the windows. I must say I was QUITE…read moredisappointed by the terrible inaccuracies of Rianna's review. I did not see any violence and there was not a single ERECT PENIS to be found. What I did see was a most varied collection of distinct and unique art that clearly represented the artists that work from their most welcoming space! I have worked out of several studios, and have to say Lincoln Square Pottery & Learning Center has been the most welcoming, supportive and generous art space I have been a part. If you are looking for interesting gifts and unique ceramics, come on by. If you are looking boring, uninspired, slap it in a frame and call it art art, just keep walking. If you a re looking for ART, something that might challenge you, or perhaps a mug to give as a gift, there is both and everything in between. And a little advice for Rianna, look up St. Sebastian, that was the inspiration for one of the "pornographic" pieces you referred. And before referencing something you clearly know nothing about, BDSM, do some research on that topic as well. And by the way, YOU DID contact the Alderman to report the "debaucherous" display, and they did not have a problem with it AT ALL! You might want to check out that little thing called the First Amendment, it covers Freedom of Expression of which artistic expression is covered.

But see, back then I was unfamiliar with the super delightful, incredibly fanciful & all around blissful dance called "Swing". And excuse me for saying so, but if you don't agree it isn't one of the most fun dances to not only participate in, but also WATCH others do, well then friend you are a miserable bastard that should spend the rest of your days watching re-runs of Solid Gold and Dance Party USA. aHEm. So see, I had come across a Groupon for a six week series here and when I saw that...why I couldnt have been more excited if Gregory Peck himself came back from the dead just to goose me. And holy heck was it fun! The instructors were awesomely patient and thorough about explaining all the steps, and even when you had to dance with some two-left footed schmoe, you still were having a good time. The facility is big, and decorated in sort of a vintage, thrift store hodgepodge, but it works. This aint Arthur Murray over here kids...they also offer a bunch of other classes that have nothing to do with dancing too! But I dont care about that...I am completely hooked and cant wait to go back to take more swing classes. And now I am proud to say I don't look like I am doing a full bodied dry heave set to music anymore. rockin! Thanks Galaxie!

I've also attended many private parties here and they manage to transform the space from casual to elegant effortlessly...it's just such a unique space... I had sewn as a teen so it was easy to dive back in, but there were also brand new beginners in my class that seemed to do really well too. After Basics, I felt confident enough to sign up for Hemming and Alterations (a set of 2 classes), where we reviewed measuring and different types of hems/clothing modifications. We even got to bring in some of our own clothes to work on while supervised by the teachers :) Since then, I've been able to hem a bunch of items I've always wanted to wear, so I'll call it a success! The staff was soooo knowledgeable and patient (shout out to Anika who led both of mine!), making the total of 6 hours I spent there really efficient. The studio was tidy, well organized and had all the equipment we needed to thrive. Plus, the classmates were all super kind, so I guess it draws in nice people! 10/10 recommend!
