On my most recent trip to Katikati I found myself obsessively picking at my split ends, so I decided that it was time for a hair cut. I chose Liz Ward because a Google search turned up a bunch of press and awards, and their Facebook page displayed a fancy and diverse range of hair products. I get the impression that they're usually pretty booked up, but they were able to squeeze me into a cancellation - yay! The salon itself is in a cute little refurbished bungalow with polished floors, white walls and a clean yet classy aesthetic. Upon arrival I was brought an ornate side table with a chocolate and glass of water, which made me feel a little bit spoiled right away. The head massage was absolutely heavenly - it's probably worth going here just for that. The nice lady who washed my hair walked me through all of the products she was using and made sure the water was always the perfect temperature. The cut itself was as expected, the hairdresser was friendly and showed me how to maintain my split ends during cuts. Once it was all over with my sister in law said that my hair looked longer than it did when I went in, which is exactly what I was aiming for. I'm now practically split end free. The best part? It was nearly half the price of a haircut in Melbourne. A cut, Moroccan Oil moisture restoring treatment and blowdry set me back a total of $80. Totally affordable. I have added this to my (tiny) list of trusted hair salons, and I'll probably come back here next time I have to visit family in Katikati.

I'd only had the piercing in for 5 months. After a close inspection in the wonderfully clean, professional, and welcoming back piercing room, it was quite obvious that the piercing was not only closed, but healed so quickly I couldn't fully identify where it had been. Jesse and Jordan were awesome. They didn't try to sell me a thing. I asked them to go ahead and re-pierce. When asked, they kindly suggested a slightly different, and much more flattering spot, than the original piercing. My piercing looks amazing. The pierce itself was quick, and clean. My daughter perpetually loses her earrings. The owners (J&J) helped her to pick out a wonderful fitting to her style and needs new set. The prices are more than fair, the service kind as can be, professional and welcoming. The space is sparkling clean and inviting, as well as fabulous selections of medical grade jewelry. So, you wouldn't know it was there if you were just driving through on the main road. I called in the early morning hours on a Sunday to make a same day booking. The staff members were warm and friendly on the phone. They were already booked through the morning, but I arranged for a spa for myself and my husband just after 1:00 pm. We arrived with our towels, swim suits and bottles of water. You can rent towels if you don't bring your own. Our spa room was private, with a separate area that had some space to change, a toilet and a shower. Our spa resembled an over-sized wine barrel. The water was comfortably warm and there was ample space for 2 adults. There were taps to increase the influx of hot or cooler water, so you can adjust the temperature to suit you. You can choose 30, 45 or 60 minute time frames. We choose 45 and that was just right for us. They sound a buzzer in your room when your time is up and then you have 10 minutes to get out and get changed. We had a coupon from the Entertainment Book, so had a 2-for-1 deal and ended up paying on $27 for the spa session. It was well worth that and more. You can also get a loyalty card and your 10th spa session is free. I will definitely be back for more. There are other spa services available (massage, etc.) but we did not partake of that today, so I'm don't have any comment about that at this time.

Although the mud bath is shared with other guests, there are four smaller heated pools where visitors can alternate their seating arrangements. This rotation system allows for some private time during the mud bath experience. After the mud soak, guests are encouraged to rinse off in the shower before enjoying one of the two warm pools. Before departing, visitors can also take a quick dip in a cold plunge pool to enhance the benefits of the mud treatment. Despite the chill, the cold plunge pool features a beautiful running rock waterfall, adding to the overall experience. it was a lovely experience and good for kids too.
