There is a lot of stiff competition among bakery and baked goods stalls in the market so most who survive really have to put themselves out there with either a catchy niche or gap in the market, or in this case produce some of the highest quality baked thingys to be had in this city. The bakery does the usual array of sweet and savoury, the sweet being the most impressive. Glazed buns, chocolate cakes, chewy American style cookies which rival Big Ted's available close by and any number of muffins, pastries and cupcakes. I tried a fresh cream donut the last time I was there. Coated in a thin layer of close to sickly sweet whit icing and bunged to the rafters with a sweet cream filling. Light, soft and chewy and heavily glazed it was brilliant if I must say. The staff who run the place are fantastic. I was enquiring about the possibility of getting a chocolate cake made to order for a family member's birthday down the line too, which they said would be grand.

The stand does a huge rage of all things baked including Muffins & Cupcakes, Pastries, Desserts, Gateau's & Tarts, Soft Chewy Cookies, Speciality Bread, Scones....the list goes on! And everything is crafted with immaculate care and precision. Particular favourite of mine are their scones, which are heaving with fruit, and their Danish pastries, which have just the right amount of cinnamon and beautifully light and flaky pastry. One unusual service but one I think should be highlighted is their Bun on The Run service, which is to do with the noble tradition of bringing your own cake to work on your birthday!You can order your buns and French Village will deliver them for you if you want, and best of all they will give you a free bun for your troubles!

I honestly didn't expect to find such top notch French pastries in Northern Ireland (and see my French patisserie list in case you think I've not had my share!!). But, I looked through Instagram pictures of Lazy Claire in July 2018, checked a bunch of websites, found nothing on them (they've since developed a strong reputation locally), and walked in to find delectable made-from-scratch pastries. The surprise didn't end there. The owner, Daniel, introduced himself to me and told me that he's originally from Alabama... though he did learn his craft at Angelina in Paris. I'm glad I walked in, per habit, around the time a bakery opens (9 am in this case on weekdays). Glad because I was the first customer. The guy after me looked around the display cases and casually asked for 4 butter croissants and 5 chocolate croissants (or vice versa). I turned around to look at him and exclaimed: you bought everything! He pretended as if he didn't know. Though he clearly did (given the mismatched order size). Daniel laughed and told me I'd been lucky. He's a wonderful conversationalist and I spent an hour chatting up with him as he shared his experience of living and operating a business in Belfast. The croissants were flaky with layers of rolled dough, but the shatter effect was more prominent the day Daniel was working. (I'm not dinging the other bakers, they were considerate people having recognized me from back to back visits) I also tried the macarons, but loved the Millefeuille and pistachio eclairs more. I wish I'd been there around December to try the Black Forest bûche de Noël. It looked lovely on Instagram. The New Yorker in me believes one can walk around any city in the world, but I'd forgotten all about "the troubles" on my way to the patisserie. If you're a tourist and don't know your way around the city, be prepared to cab it back to your hotel. Lazy Claire is a can't miss experience in Belfast. Said donut was soft and sickly sweet but lacking in any real flavour or taste. The coffee was absolutely terrible, being weak, watery and bland. I thought for a moment the Server had given me tea in error and turned around from my table to go back to the counter with it, but saw a sudden queue of customers stretched out the door and onto the street. Thus I didn't bother complaining about my 'coffee' but probably should have. Ashers must be doing something right as this large queue at lunchtime on a Monday were all buying sandwiches, buns and breads. However I'm not impressed with Ashers and won't return. Prices are reasonable but the quality just isn't on a par with other bakeries and cafes around Belfast.

The place looks like a converted office, with product sitting on trays out in the open instead of behind fancy display cases or packaged into individual bags. Staff use handheld solar calculators along with paper pricing tables to calculate total purchase prices. My acquaintance purchased a whole bunch of items, which they put into generic cake boxes. Of these, I tried a roast pork bun, an egg tart, and a pineapple cocktail (i.e., coconut) bun. All of these items held their own against their New York City equivalents. The meat inside Kam Yuan's roast pork bun was not as red, not as sweet, and leaner that most versions found in New York City -- all positive traits. I prefer Kam Yuan's version over those from Mei Lai Wah in Manhattan, or Grandpa Chen in Queens. Kam Yuan's egg tart was similarly not as bright yellow, and slightly less sweet -- again, both positive traits. Cash only. Pricing is pretty good; roughly equivalent to New York City pricing at regular Chinese bakeries.

This absence of comfy seating is the main reason why I wouldn't order food to sit in and eat. I tend to like to sit and enjoy my food. This is a NI Railways property allowing a number of food franchises. It's not centrally located to Belfast despite being called central station.

My scone set me back £1.50 but I think it's big enough to feed me for the rest of the week. The lovely lady working on the stall noticed that I was unsure of what to get and she recommended a thick folded crepe that was filled with chocolate and was freshly baked 'only an hour ago'. Her suggestion looked divine but I managed to resist and go for the sensible option. She was really informative and told me that Piece of Cake have a stall at St Georges Market and there will be one opening soon at Europa Bus station. I would highly recommend that busy commuters slow down to a stop on their way out of Central Station and pick up some freshly made breakfast or lunch from the Piece of Cake stall. Now, like it or not, as a customer I do like a tad of courtesy and an occasional smile when I'm out shopping - and especially in hospitality. Not much to ask for, I'm a please and thank you shopper and when I don't get it I usually brush it off but here irritated me yesterday (12 August 22). As I said the free pastry deal required £3.45 for the offered coffee and my choice of an almond croissant but I wouldn't return here. M&S do a far better almond croissant for £1. So the PV coffee was good but not great. 3 star. The PV almond croissant was a doughy 2 star and would benefit from lightness and more almond it's more a croissant that may contain almond. The server and service were both grim and minus 5 star and no one should need training to be courteous and mannerly. I stood inside for a few minutes. the only customer, I could see the young lady who was doing something several feet away. I expected her to come along to serve me but as I stood and waited she continued whatever she was doing. So I cleared my throat and coughed and my my dimensions I'm not quiet and at 6' 4 I'm hard to miss. But no reaction and no service so I coughed again - a real bad flu type but nowt. After several minutes coughing and throat clearing I just said loudly hello. It worked but as she approached she offered no greeting, no smile it was simply what do you want, so I chose my pastry and she made the coffee and bagged to pastry all while looking around and it was as if I wasn't there. I paid and she returned to what she was doing and here's what bugged me and tipped it over. I walked to a table to put the bagged croissant into my rucksack and she loudly snarled at me to tell me I'd ordered takeaway and had to go - that's how it came across - as if I was stealing the sugar. I simply noted I was bagging up the croissant and she did not say anything more. I left thinking wow that's not acceptable and downright ill mannered. No wonder I was the only customer there for quite a time. I went into Hotel Chocolat a few minutes away joined a queue and got a great coffee and a warm welcome. If you like ill-mannered, unpleasant staff and shoddy treatment this PV store will be right up your street if your not asked to leave oh and if you don't the good news Is there's an alternative is two minutes away.

I have been going here since it opened and always order her cakes, i got my 18th birthday cake from debbie which was lady gaga with a coke tin rolled in her hair which was brilliant! Although recently I ordered a cake for my daddy's birthday with a photo printed on it and as always it was great friendly service with a smile with a bit of banter and good craic. Debbie herself is a funny bubbly young woman and always happy to help with any requests I have, I keep going back for the tasty cakes and treats aswell as the good laugh you get with her in the shop. I think that I could have done the same job and it would have been much less expensive. The cake wasn't ready on time and I had to wait for it to be finished. By that time there was not enough time to complain that the decoration was not as we had agreed when I had ordered it as it was close to the time of the celebration. Debbie had to ask again about the spelling of the name and the figurine had to be changed as it wasn't the correct colour. This was being done as I was standing waiting in the front of the shop. I suspect that she had taken on too many orders so there was not enough time to do a good job. I will not order from her again.
