With stock that spills out onto the walkway, the shop contains several large sculptures and enormous vases (complete with faux plants), mirrors of within driftwood and stone frames, and lovely fountains. These are pieces that require a large living space - I imagine one item quite easily taking over my little flat. Smaller items include mobiles and hanging candle holders made from blown glass; small ceramic and metal sculptures of animals; and useful items like key and coat holders, memo boards, dishware and wine glasses. Several items have been marked down quite drastically for the holiday sale. For example, one of the huge vases has been reduced from £250 to £125, so ... hang on ... 50 % off. The Pharmacy has two levels, disabled access is good as it has escalators but also a lift. I have always found that the tills are always manned, meaning, minimum waiting time in the queue. The chemist staff is always very knowledgeable and will advise on what medicine to take if you are unsure as to what you may need. The location of this Boots is great as it is right in the Town centre, situated opposite Crawley Train and main Bus Stations. The staff is friendly and as I mentioned before, there are loads of products which includes perfumes, aftershaves, etc. Another good point is that there are staff available on site to give you advise on perfumes, make up, etc.

I picked up a collection of short stories called "Milk" and was pleasantly pleased to pay only 50p for it! A real bargain in anyone's book I'm sure. Sadly, as its not a charity shop, I didn't get the warm fuzzy feeling of helping someone when I handed over my change, but the lady who served me was very pleasant. To the point I felt guilty for only paying 50p... Sadly, I'm not too sure the place will be around for too much longer, as it didn't seem to be replacing the stock it sold. But for however long it stays around, it may be worth your time to give it a look!

Run by one of the Brighton Rumble deejays, its a tiny space packed with cool sofas, leatherette chairs, formica topped tables, designer chairs, lamps, stools and cabinets. Everything is reasonably priced and the stock changes regularly with new pieces selling quickly. Record lovers should note, they also sell gorgeous jukeboxes and boxes of old magazines, postcards and rockabilly 45s and 33s.

Downstairs from the shop Loot, this little beauty of 'Vintage Living' and 'Kustom Kulture' hides. It is like stumbling across an immaculate basement of some cool east end grandad who lived and breathed the Teddy Boy and Mod life, and has kept one room as a shrine to his forgotten past. On sale there is a mix of vintage clothes such as old parka's, leather jackets and other coats and anoraks from the 40s/50s era which to be honest I don't even know what they're called, but I know they look damn cool. There's also a small range of mint condition shoes, some still with their original boxes from the era. However as the shop declares, it is not only vintage clothing but 'Vintage Living', which means a whole cross section of items, from Paintings of Rockabilly star Mac Curtis, red and white American diner style stools, original DICE magazines and cans of Dax Wax to name a few. The Rockabilly scene in Brighton meets here to discuss upcoming gigs, and the owner DJs a Rockabilly night in the Tin Drum. So if your into the lifestyle or just the music, this place is brilliant to just come and hang out and chat, or come away with an original piece of clothing or 'Kustom Kulture' item. There's always some fascinating artifact or relic that I hadn't seen before because there is just SO much of it. Chinese lanterns, Mounted deers' heads, US license plates, antique cameras, walls covered in masks and racquets, crockery, glassware, hats, old potions, an impressive collection of owls and the odd bit of taxidermy... Having said all that, much of this chintz is surplus to requirement. Some may say that the point of most antiques is that they're surplus to requirement but I'm afraid I'm a little bit more of a utilitarian than to need a stuffed mongoose. The books and accessories however just keep me coming back for more.

A full size skeleton is one of the first things that comes to mind. (He was dressed up in a hat, though, to take away any scariness.) Other cool stuff included mannequins (full and a few pairs of JUST THE HANDS), plants displayed in bed pans, teeny tiny figurines, hair pins in the shape of hats, antique cameras and rotary telephones. There was also all the usual stuff: books, dishware vases, jewellery, less tiny figurines (mostly in animal shapes), paper lanterns and some sewing patterns. I'm probably forgetting a bunch - there was a lot to look at. In summary, it's worth the mini-hike up St. James to check it out.
