How can you walk past a chocolate cafe and not enter - especially when it has been created by one of the finest chocolate makers out there. OK, maybe most people can but not me, even if it was an early Wednesday morning. The Lindt cafe in St Martins place has a lot of charm about it. The old building, tall ceilings, bar stools, high counter tops give it the ambiance of a minimalist 1940's city cafe. The chocolate isn't cheaper but they do have specials - like fill a tin with these latte flavoured Lindt bits for $13. Good value if you like coffee flavoured chocolate. I like the fact that there is plenty of space in here. There are also a lot of tables outside but as we're in the middle of the city and the interior is so lovely I'd opt for a table indoors. If you don't want to dive straight into the cocoa land there are salads and other fine savoury dishes to fill the tum. But really you don't go there for the meat - it's the pud we're after. Mocha anyone?

My friends and I had received a Lindt gift card, so we came to the cafe. It is conveniently located right near Martin Place. The cafe is quite large and has an ample amount of seating, chocolate shop, and cased desserts. We ended up ordering the tasting platter, which came with waffles, ice cream, brownies, strawberries, macarons, and melted chocolate! It was a perfect way to try a variety of desserts and not feel terrible afterwards. My favorite was probably the macarons! They were excellent! I also had the milk hot chocolate, which was served as hot milk and liquid chocolate. It was fun to pour them together to create a rich delicious hot chocolate. My friend had the raspberry milkshake and liked it but thought the consistency of it was a bit off. After eating, we spent the rest of the money buying their truffles of course! If you need to satisfy a sweet tooth, go to the Lindt cafe!

Sydney's flagship establishment for Lindt Chocolate. Their chocolate appreciation evenings are also quite interesting. It is great to come here after spending a couple of hours studying at the nearby state library for some lunch. Any of their sandwiches and panini's (especially the smoked salmon one's) with a milk iced chocolate is just divine. Grab one of the cream coloured booths inside, and full table service is enjoyed. Their chocolate is quite thick and rich, so remember to also ask for some water. It would be suicide otherwise, and you will be left with a strong chocolate aftertaste in your mouth. The pick and mix is dangerous; trust me you will be better off heading to Coles to buy a packet of their chocolates, and it will be kinder on your hip pocket. The best time to visit this establishment is in the early morning to have a milk hot chocolate which is the equivalent of two hot chocolate drinks, and represents good value for money. Definitely in a great and trendy locale in Martin Place. Even the corporate financial and nearby legal types vouch for this establishment and have their occasional coffee meetings here. Sit inside where you can.

    Where they create chocolate things!

The selection of truffles is good by Australian standards (about 10 flavours to choose from), but in all honesty there are some staples missing in that lot. The selection of cakes/alternative to chocolate treats is small - 4 alternatives, plus my favourite a giant white or milk chocolate lollipop with standardized messages such as "happy birthday", "i love you" and "sorry" to fit most occasions. The staff tend to be a tad pretentious - but that's probably to be expected at a place like this. And as you would expect this place is a little on the more expensive side of things - an individual truffle is $1.50 and a coffee is around the $4.50 mark (but hey, you get the a free truffle with that so maybe it isn't bad). If you work near by this place it's pretty disastrous for you - or at least your weight -because you're bound to become addicted.

It is nice and dark and I love the fact that you get a piece of chocolate with it. I always have to get the Dark Chocolate Dinosaur because I get the hot chocolate drink and my kids get the piece of chocolate, fair trade I suppose. The only thing annoying is that this place has a $15 minimum for card/eftpos. I hate carrying coins and money, so I sometimes overspend just to get 1 hot chocolate. Hopefully they will change their system soon. They now have a bowl when you order a hot chocolate and you can pick from the bowl, but don't be fooled you can still pick your own chocolate with any hot drink order.
