The location is somewhat unsuspecting considering it is near the heart of downtown Youngstown, but there is a nice dock overlooking the Mahoning River and the banquet hall is actually quite elegant on the inside - it's an old train station, hence the name B & O Station Banquet Hall. I know they got a good deal on the price, but for how many issues ensued following the booking, I am not entirely sure either of the newlyweds were very satisfied with the decision. My sister always said she just wanted to elope and if she knew all the problems that would arise during the event planning, she may have went with her initial instinct. Things seemed to be going well until a couple days before the wedding she was contacted through text message that the elevator in the hall was broken and none of the tables or chairs would be able to be transported between levels. The original plan was to have the ceremony in the lower level of the hall and the reception would be held upstairs. This certainly put a kink in things and I can imagine it was increasingly frustrating to be contacted through text, not even a phone call, with a problem that would affect the ceremony so greatly. The issue was resolved after some contemplation, but the professionalism of the staff continued to come into question with various other instances over the weekend. The rehearsal took place Friday evening before the wedding, and the manager was supposed to meet the group at 6:00 - she never showed up. The caterer arrived the next morning - it was a 10 AM ceremony followed by brunch - to discover that the ovens were not functional and had a difficult time keeping all of the food warm with a limited supply of hot trays. Whether the staff failed to inform its customer of that fact or whether they were simply unaware of the functionality of their appliances does not speak well for the business. In the end, regardless of the surprises, it was a magnificent wedding. You can't let things beyond your control spoil something so beautiful. Do I think my sister would go back and do everything the exactly the same? Probably not. At least she will have some interesting stories to tell about the day she got married. As for me, it gave me an new Yelp review to write. The B & O really is a hidden gem in terms of its elegance and unique banquet setting, but the staff needs to step it up in terms of their performance. Lastly, I can't speak for the brews that are made here, as I have never tried any, and being a big time craft beer drinker I'd love to give them a try, but I won't deny that my desire to rush back has been hindered by the banquet hall's competence.

I don't know what the membership includes, but I would certainly never pay a membership fee to eat here. Service was lousy, and they weren't very busy. As a former waitress when I was in college, I know that when your table is looking around and no longer looking at menus, they are ready to order, and a good waitress will notice that and take your order when you are obviously ready to order. No one seem to care here. The entrées we wanted we're not available because they were allegedly sold out, but it was very early in the day so I find that hard to believe. Poor restaurant managing perhaps? When the food arrived, nothing was very good. We all had three different meals but none of us would ever order these meals again here. But then again, I would never eat here again even if a member asked me to come with them. I had heard this place had very good food, but that was not the case when I was here. Townsfolk bring their folding chairs and enjoy the music under the evening sky. There are two outdoor play areas for children: Little Tykes for the Pre-Schoolers, and Kids Town for the older children. Each year in the Spring, you can enjoy hot pancakes and maple syrup offered for a small fee over two weekends. In the Fall, the park hosts the annual Octoberfest. There's always something going on!

And driving home from grabbing a loaf of Breadworks at Joseph's Marketplace, looped around the block and pulled over to just walk in and see how it went. I love ribs. I had just bought one of those precooked racks of ribs at Walmart that truly, truly, sucked. (it's still in the frig as I write this, half eaten and waiting for Aiken on trash day) But it's hard finding ribs in New Castle. Except on New Years, it's lamb and gyros 7x24 here. I was not expecting how great these ribs turned out being. The half rack, unsauced (they got cattleman's or some generic stuff if you want. I got Vince Dinsio's recipe for BBQ sauce so I'm good) had six bones and the tip. Dry smoked no sauce. No heavy seasonings. And thick and meaty and no fat, like, clean meat with deep smoke ring and nice crust. These ribs the wife said are as good as Starlite out on 224 towards Poland. Romeo's place. I can't go that far, I only ever had the Veal there. But if the wife says it, it's true. I will say this. I'm going back this coming weekend. I'm getting a ####-ton of brisket. And I'm betting it will be every bit as good as the ribs, a person can just tell when they are in the presence of greatness. These are great ####### ribs.
