What a fabulous winery in a quiet part of Ohio! My friend brought me here on a recent trip to Youngstown and this was a top notch evening! First the stunning views from the deck are exactly what one wants to see when sipping on wine and having charcuterie. The wines. I love you can do a flight at the table in addition to the tasting bar. This is a plus for me as someone who would like to take their time when trying multiple wines. I also live that you can add a single sample to any flight this is very customer friendly. The food. We ordered the charcuterie board (Def get it for 3+ people) and yes $30 may seen like a lot you get $30 worth of food and more. I left with two boxes! Visited here for the first time over the Thanksgiving holiday. Vineyards is a bit off the beaten path, about 15 miles south of Youngstown. The Tasting Restaurant can be found down a long drive through the vineyards, passed a round-a-about and perching above the Pine Lake. It definitely has a country club vibe to it. It's a little bit of a hike from the lot to the door, so you may find it necessary to drop off your party at the door. Our party was seated on the patio. It was heated, but there are many windows that give you a great view of the lake. It was a pretty chilly spot in late November, so bring a cardigan. Service was efficient and present, but not too bothersome. A couple in our party ordered flights so that we could try a nice selection of their wines. We enjoyed the Gold Medal and Fruit Lovers flights on this occasion. I have found that at many Ohio wineries you are best off trying sweeter wines, as getting those bold, dry grapes is harder than in other parts of the country. Though I enjoyed the Berry Patch and Midnight Vines, the Pinot Noir was also impressive. Additionally, I tried the Honey Mango Jalapeno Ale. It was too many things for my palette - not my jam. For dinner I found the special stuffed pepper soup to be a hit, while the French Onion was a miss. The broth was a bit too watery and could have benefitted from a beefier au jus. The Mushroom Ravioli was a fantastic choice, particularly if you are vegetarian. While the Figgy Flatbread was good, it was a bit one note. The bread was a little thicker than I would have expected and ultimately the dish fell a little flat. It took us over 90 minutes to sit down (when they said it would take 45 minutes). Then once we sat down it took over 2 hours to get our food. Then we get it and it's wrong and cold. The manager never came over to apologize and they never once offered to comp our appetizers or give us a coupon for our experience. My mother visited The Vineyards at Pine Lake with a group from a seniors complex. She inadvertently dropped her credit card when she was returning it to her wallet. When I called the following to week to see if the card may have been turned in I was told that it had been. I requested they mail it to her and the manager on duty agreed. I was completely impressed and grateful when Mom received the credit card -- which had been mailed priority mail at an expense of almost $10. This was so kind! I expected the card would be returned by first class mail and for the Vineyards to go to the expense of sending it more securely was above and beyond. This was our second time here and I totally believe in the sophomore slump. Beautiful Saturday. Semi busy but plenty of tables. We went to the bar. Now this is the perfect time to engage with your customers. See what they are drinking make recommendations; this bar tender kept her back to us 95% of the time we were here. We did two wine flights and the watermelon salad with chicken took over 40 minutes for her salad which was an entire container of mixed greens with some toppings. About the size of Turkey Foot Lake from what I could see and estimate from the winery. The winery itself was not so great it looked like a place where you'd store tractors and the food was quite so-so. Bar food. French fries and hamburgers. We ordered their charcuterie which was hunks of ham, Swiss, a few other bland cheeses of poor quality, salami, mustard jam, yellow, and peppers. and a few pistachios with weird crackers and they may have been stale. Not my kind of expectations from a winery. We had just left a cute local festival in the area and the food festival offerings were almost the same as the winery. So, up to you. My wife and I went to Pine Lake winery a few weeks ago and spent a very pleasant afternoon on their outdoor Pavilion. food was great and their beer selection was also good. Today we decided to go again. Unfortunately today is Thursday, outdoor pavilion was closed. So we went to the restaurant, very disappointed. They had 3 of their own beers on tap, one was extremely sweet and the other 2 had very little taste. I asked for bottle of Yeungling, they did not carry Yeungling, the three options were Bud Light, Coors light and Mich Ultra. I grew up on 3.2 beer, at 73 years of age I will not drink light beer now. So I asked if they had DRY red wine, the server said they had a dry Cabernet. I asked for the residual sugar in the Cab but she didnt know. I asked to taste the Cab. It was sweet so I ordered a plain Bourbon pour. It was good. When the bill came we were charged for 2 beers and 1 wine taste. My wife did order one of their beers and we were not charged for It. So very disappointing. My boyfriend and I were extremely excited when we found this winery not too far from the Shaker Woods Festival. When we were arrived, we immediately fell in love with the scenery! We drove through the vineyards and to the restaurant portion that overlooks an adorable little pond. We decided to sit at the bar because there was a wait for a table both inside and outside. I was a little confused about the wait because there was at least 10 unoccupied tables inside. The service was horrible, and the lack of hospitality honestly ruined the entire experience. The woman and young man at the bar ignored us for a solid 10 minutes (even after making eye contact). We asked the couple next to us to borrow their menu to browse the wine selection. I had to call one of them over to order a glass. We planned on getting an appetizer, but we weren't checked on again. Recently we visited here after being away for several months. Our first visit we outstanding with great food, wine and service. We returned to celebrate our anniversary and wanted to try a couple of the same food items we had previous enjoyed. We started with the 'greens n beans' that was so good and different before. However, this time the dish was extremely spicy/ hot. My wife could not eat it and was sorely disappointed. I wanted to love this place. So much so that after visiting the first time back in September, we chose to try it again last month (october). The first time we came, we had a very sweet waitress. But, we were seated on the patio (it was a full patio too) and she told us right away she was sorry for how long it had taken her to visit our table. We said we understood (party of 4 btw) and just wanted to get wine. No food. She said oh good, then it will be just fine. Because they were short staffed. Again we were like, ok it's cool. No worries. But, it took probably a solid 15-20 minutes to get our wine. Overall the service was not good on this visit. But thought maybe it might just be that waitress, and we shouldn't take it out on the restaurant. So second visit....party of 5 this time. Plenty of tables available everywhere. They seat us on the patio, and we were good with that. Again it took an extremely long time for our waitress to come over. Ordered food, all was good. But just realllyyyy slow to get anything. Then we ordered food, it came. And I ordered a Caesar salad. The salad was literally soup. The dressing was pooling on top of the lettuce. It was so much so that I couldn't even eat it (and honestly I'm not picky whatsoever). But the other 2 at my table that got it, also said the same thing. Now, this could have been fixed. BUT. Our waitress never came back over!!!!! It was about 20 minutes before we had to ask someone ti get her. She never came back to check on us after the food was delivered. Ultimately, she came back over and we explained what was wrong. She said she would just take it off our bill. Didn't even offer to bring me something else....so I didn't even get to eat really. Finally visited VPL after hearing that the wine and food were excellent. Since I'm not a wine drinker, I can only review the food and the setting which were overall very good. Food menu VPL has a weekly menu that had some tasty options (pulled pork sandwich, pepper jack cheeseburger, and cheesecake with strawberries covered in blueberry syrup). The pulled pork sandwich was filled with a lot of meat and topped with shredded cheddar cheese. My boyfriend's mom ordered this and said it was very good. The pepper jack cheeseburger pictured in the review consisted of a juicy burger topped with yellow peppers, red onions, and a sauce that looked like a mix of mayonnaise and ketchup. My boyfriend ordered this and it was cooked perfectly. I ordered the Vintner's Flatbread with grilled chicken, diced tomatoes, pesto, and three cheeses (mozzarella, parmesan, and provolone). The flatbread was perfectly crispy on the edges and baked perfectly throughout so each slice was able to hold up on its own and the toppings didn't fall off when the slice was picked up by the edges. Setting The view of the lake is amazing. When you drive into the parking area next to the tasting room, you immediately seen an expansive lake bordered by huge trees that make you feel as if you're in a secluded forest. VPL has seating that is indoors and outside (on cold days, they are able to enclose part of the outdoor area and warm it up). You can sit and have a drink and/or eat while staring out at the peaceful lake. Overall, my first visit to VPL was great and lived up to what I had expected after hearing for a long time about how good the place is. The other day, after the Shaker in the Woods festival, we decided to stop at the Vineyards at Pine Lake. It's obvious that they are not used to being busy as when we walked in there were numerous empty tables but they still told us there would be a 20 to 40 minute wait just for a wine tasting. I cannot comment on their wine or their food as we waited to see if a seat would open at the bar and then simply left. I have a suggestion, remove the incredibly large tables and put in two top tables, so that you can accommodate couples. The eight person tables were all empty. Also, I can't imagine that so many people buy T-shirts from a Winery in Columbiana, Ohio that you would need to take about 1/5 of your seating area for T-shirt racks. We will not be back. read more

This is the place that we tried to visit a once upon a time, and only find out that it wasn't opened until December 2016. I read the reviews and some were not so nice. However, I do not always go by the reviews, because I need to form my own opinion. I am glad that I did do that. We had a light dinner. Salad and a flatbread. The menu is light. However the food was good, the wine was very good, and the service was awesome. Some of the grape juices came from the finger lakes, and others from California. I was super impressed with this place-- from the view to the wine and food, it definitely surpassed my expectations. It sits on Pine Lake which makes for a lovely backdrop to this winery whether you're sitting outside on the patio or inside on the hightops near the big windows. They have cozy sectional couches around firepits as well as numerous tables outside; they also have hightops and tables inside as well as a large bar, all with a cool, rustic theme. I have been to several wineries in Ohio, and I must say, this place has my favorite wines so far. The tastings include 3 wines (with generous pours) for $6.50. I really enjoyed the Cab Savignon and the Cab reserve. I also had the Pine Lake Red, which wasn't my favorite, but was decent for a sweeter red. I didn't explore the menu too much during my first visit, but I did snack on the kielbasa bites, and they were fantastic! The only downfall to this place was the slow service. The wait staff were incredibly nice and apologetic, but they seemed a little short staffed which resulted in long waits for menus, glasses, etc. I attributed it to them being a newer establishment-- hopefully next time I go back they have better service, and I'd happily give this winery 5 stars! read more

After driving through the field of grape vines, we entered a parking lot overlooking Pine Lake. We entered their beautiful new building with a tasting room with a great view overlooking the lake! This will be even more impressive in the warmer season! My wife and I sampled 6 different wines ranging from very sweet to dry. All were tasty - we tried the Lindale, Cire, Riesling, Avily, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. We met some members of the family who own the place and they were very nice. Visited the Vineyards on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. Even though it is barely spring, it was pretty crowded but no issues with getting a table. We started with an app special - kielbasa dipping bowl that was a cheese sauce with kielbasa cut up in it and toasted pretzel bites that was delicious. I had the fish and chips special that was also really good although the waitress did bring me sweet potato fries rather than regular but she realized and quickly corrected her mistake. My friend had a chicken piccata that also looked really good. I did a flight of wines so tried their Reserve Chardonnay, Sav Blanc and Pinot Noir. The whites were quite good, the Pinot just "ok" but all 3 were better than most of the Ohio wines that we've tried. Lots of good - one thing seriously bad. The view, the vibe and the environment are all really good. This is a nicely laid out tasting room that doesn't take itself too seriously. Very casual with a full bar and beer available. The main room is decorated just right for the lake location. The patios are great and just what this area needs. The Vinyards recently put in new grapes on the hillside overlooking the water which is just one of the constant improvements that seem to be happening here. The waitstaff was friendly and welcoming. I started off with their very enjoyable Sav Blanc. The Cab was very nice too. The wine was definitely superior to what you'll find at most small local vineyards. The menu is rather limited but the food at our table of three was all very good except for one major meal ruining flaw. My steak was not cooked properly. Here is the rule- if service staff is going to ask preference for steak preparation, then they need to deliver the steak as requested. Now while I understand that the occasional over cooked steak goes out of any kitchen, it was the handling of this situation that cause me to write this ranting review. When I realized that my steak was well done rather than medium rare, I told the waitress who then left the table only to return and say "do you want me to take it back?" I had to say again, yes because it's not medium rare. She took my plate off somewhere only to then bring it back to the table in the same condition saying, "they told me to tell you that "just the corner is well, the center is medium". Well, I don't like being told I'm incorrect about meat temp when in fact I'm not. I also don't care for the fact that although I declined when the waitress said, "would you like "him" to come out?" (At this point I'm embarrassed and aggravated) she had him come over anyway. The guy leans down and says something to the effect that I was incorrect and he hopes it's fine. But if I realllllly want another steak he will make a new one. No thanks. You be the judge of the photos. I hope the chef, owner and manager see this. Either take steak off your menu or get your staff correct on how to serve it. Aside from the meat, this restaurant and tasting room is a gem.
