I attended a motorcycle endorsement course at the LBCC campus, and I was impressed with the facilities and design. It is easy to notice that it is a lovely community college. The newer buildings have a modern style, while the older ones are rustic; both blend well together to form a great learning atmosphere. A courtyard is centrally located at the heart of the LBCC campus that really adds to its appeal and enhances its beauty. Another nice and useful feature for students is the bus stop located in the south parking lot. It sets a stone's throw from many of the main halls and grants easy access for commuters. read more

Saw the local community college with a good connection to the local high schools. I've always been impressed by their class sizes and the experience is my kids of had either attending events participating in events or touring the campus. read more

Linn Benton is stuck in the past with their online learning system. Most schools use Canvas but LB decided to use Moodle which SUCKS. I spent the first 3 weeks of a course trying to get on to it and learning that the school only has one guy trying to fix issues. If you can figure out when they are open, check out the culinary school at the community college for an incredibly inexpensive lunch that tastes pretty good in a nice environment. I have a friend who works here (on staff - teacher) and is part of the reason I land in Albany and I have enjoyed many a lunch here and it is super fun. Their set up and service is old school, linens, formality, but they are training chefs all about both front and the back of the house food and service which is such a good thing because so many chefs are socially idiotic and shouldn't get near the front of the house much less own their own place. The food is pretty and solid, featuring whatever the latest culinary trends are (deviled eggs anyone?) and of course there is no wine (thus the four star review :). Several of my family have attended and we are pleased with quality of education. We have also attended community events like concerts and plays. The facilities are amazing. It is not easily accessible. Difficult to get from handicap parking to front doors with steep incline. Accessibility office was in a distant corner and difficult to navigate to with a wheelchair. read more

The classes are good and most of the instructors care about the students and provide good classes. My negative review is based upon the Financial Aid department. They have no respect for students time or financial dependence on financial aid. Their lack of communication between officers and with students is appalling. I have been told multiple times that my aid check will be dispersed with the next round of checks. Each time it was not. I would contact them and they would tell me that they had not gotten to it, or that I needed to complete more steps. I was never contacted or informed about these other steps, except for once. The one time they emailed me to inform me that I had to jump through another hoop, they didn't give me any information as to where or who to send the documents to. I think it is also important to mention that the Financial Aid Office does not answer their phone. You have to leave them a voicemail and wait for a call back within two business days. It is the end of week 10 and I still have not received my financial aid check. For context I am in my fourth year of college and have maintained a 3.67 GPA. I have attended four colleges and never had such a bad experience. If you plan to use financial aid at Linn-Benton Community College don't expect them to disperse your aid check in any reasonable amount of time. read more

I am a lover of LBCC, and a graduate. Linn Benton has historically been (and continues to be) a great asset to the area. With classes being offered in many areas of interest and degrees available to students of any age LBCC encourages education for all. LBCC has a world class, internationally ranked choral program and a Theatre program that shares passion for the arts with the entire community. The science and math programs are accessible to all levels, and the trade skills programs are invaluable! However, the concern of rising tuition, the change in curriculum focus, the starvation wages of those employees who are "adjunct" like, and the closure of the Co-op model of child care/education in favor of head start programs (which many students and staff aren't able to use) make me uncomfortable about giving a full five stars to this valuable institution. read more

LBCC is a useful place. It doesn't have a distinctively beautiful campus, say, like nearby OSU with its Memorial Union, or have a classic style like UO. I've taken SAT prep along with driver's ed classes here... so I can thank LBCC for helping me get my first driver's license. It's not an aesthetically inspiring campus, but that's not the point. You're there to learn about the art&science of parallel parking, who comes first at a four-way stop, that kind of thing. LBCC hosts a variety of classes, and makes a convenient venue. read more

I had the displeasure of attending LBCC for 2 years and they screwed me around so much I have nothing to show for it. Three terms in a row they messed up my financial aid and I was left with the bill. They charge you for the bus even if you never ride it. Their staff could not care less about the students, all they want is your money. Their book buy back program is just lies. Everything in their store is overpriced because they know most students have no choice. Most of the instructors could care less if you're learning or not and are often times unreachable. This place is a hell hole and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. Thanks to the staff members in the financial aid department I can no longer attend ANY college, anywhere, because they falsely claim I owe them $4000, and I can't go to another school if I owe money. When I asked how I could owe them $4000 at all, especially considering they took my grant AND loan money, and they had no answers. The building was originally designed to be a jail, no joke, and it definitely feels like one. Especially in the summer, because none of their windows open, and they are a cut rate school so there is no AC. Stay far, far away from this place! read more

When I was a senior in high school living in the small town of Yreka, California I had incredible variety of colleges I could have gone to. From the some of the top schools in Oklahoma to some of the top universities in California, and for some reason I find myself sitting here attending Linn Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon. I ended up coming to Linn Benton to be a member of their Livestock Judging Team. Moving up here I had a couple mental break downs because this is not where I ever imagined myself going, but now that I have lived up here for 7 months I couldn't imagine being any place else. CLASS SIZES I attended a high school with 600 students, on a good day, and I was really frightened at the thought of attending a college with 150+ students in a class and just getting lost in the mix. That is not the case at all with LBCC. The biggest class I have been in was a student teacher ratio of about 25:1. It made the transition from high school to college go very smoothly. TEACHERS Having some of my best friends be one or two years older than me, I certainly got some horror stories about teachers who don't care about the class, never show up and are really rude. Needless to say, I was very worried about that being the case at LB. But, it was not. The teachers take the time to get to know you on a first named basis, which makes going to class that much more exciting. They are really nice and take the time to make sure all students are understanding what I happening, all once again making the transition from high school to college run smoothly. WORK LOAD Lets be real here. College is college. The work load you get in college is way different then the work load you get in high school. Yes, the work load given by LB may seem challenging at some points, but it to definitely not anything unmanageable. Also, you are given quite a bit of time in between classes to get the work done. The teachers at LB also do a great job at evening out the work load so it doesn't feel like you are drowning in it. WEATHER If I'm going to get negative on this school, it's going to be about the weather. I know this is no fault on the school but it still is about the town the school in located in. Coming from California, who just recently ended a 4-year devastating drought, the rain every day is depressing. If you plan to move to Albany a rain jacket and a pair of rain boots are a MUST! It rains about 5 out of the 7 days of the week and of those 2 days with no one 1 of those days might only have about 3 hours of sunshine. So be prepared to get pale and believe that you might grow fins. TOWN ITS SELF I grew up in a county that only had about 43,000 people total, so Albany as a town is bigger than my entire county population wise, so that was certainly a sock. But, the people here are nice and always friendly. I do feel very safe and comfortable when I go to the grocery store alone or when I go on runs. The town its self like it is really sprawled out, it does take a while to get to the store or someplace else, but it is located only 10 minutes away from Corvallis and about 2 hours away from Washington so wanting to travel someplace on a weekend is a breeze. read more
