My car decided to just stop in the beginning of an off ramp to 93N. Yup, not a great place to get stuck. So the great local police came to my rescue and called these guys. Little did I know that my co-pilot put there foot on the safety button hidden on the passenger side. Ford has this little button, so when you get hit you will not burst in to flames if the gas tank gets hit. And when you hit that button the car STOPS. The engine just shuts off. So these guys did not charge me for looking at the car. I thought that was cool. Seeing mechanics have such a bad rap for trying to hustle people for things they don't need. I can say there are a few good and honest mechanics left.

I was just inspected a few months ago in RI - have always brought my car to the dealer for all servicing and have followed the recommended schedule from Subaru and have done every suggested item my dealer has suggested. I was just at the dealer for 4 new tires (recommended) a wheel alignment, and oil service. I'm assuming the inspection will be a lay-up. Not so fast. The expertise here noted some movement in the rear right suspension - and for $750 they'd be happy to fix it. Having just had the car looked at - and no such problem noted - I opted to go back to my dealer with what they folks at VIP cited. I asked them to fix if there was a problem. My dealer called me and said - we don't mind fixing something that is broke - but you don't have any problems with your rear right suspension. I asked that to be put in writing - they said no problem. I called VIP and informed them. They asked to see it in writing and then I would be issued my inspection sticker. I had to schedule a new appointment fot this meeting - and when I arrived - lo and behold - my Subaru authorized dealer's written word was not acceptable. I had an authorized Subaru dealer with certified subaru mechanics review the car. They stated in writing that the car met all Subaru requirements and there was no excessive wear in any of the suspension. I presented this paper to them. Nope, not good enough - they know better. They imply in words and actions that they know Subaru standards better than a subaru dealer and their certified mechanics. They suggest I find another dealer - a not so nice man in beard just about threatened me and stormed off when I stated they went back on their word. Well - I am opting for a different place to complete the inspection. I will never, ever, ever recommend this place to anyone. In fact - I will go out of my way to share this experience with anyone and everyone. You can't fix dumb - and then toss in stubborn and ignorant. Best of luck to anyone who goes to this place.

The problem was a bit of a mystery, after Ray had tried all the basic stuff (fuel pump, relays, etc) and took a lot of work to resolve. Ray showed up very quickly, brought parts, tried some stuff, bought a few more parts, tried a few more things and... after some more parts-buying and stuff-trying (keeping us in the loop the entire time about why he was doing this or that thing and giving us the option to not keep going) he was able to fix the problem, explain what he fixed in simple terms, and give us "things to look out for" as my partner drove home. He made it home with no issues! Ray's prices were super reasonable considering he was doing the work on a Sunday afternoon in the road in front of my house. He was tenacious about getting to the bottom of things and his knowledge of cars is encyclopedic. Really good communicator, friendly guy, I would absolutely use him again for anything from routine work to something more complex.

Steve Chiocca is the owner of the business and is the guy you'll get on the phone when you call. I first went to this garage because everyone I asked in the area recommended him. Both times I called, I had to book the appointment a week or more in advance as he has a very busy shop. After the first service I saw why. Steve is very thorough with his diagnostics and doesn't try to fix things that aren't broken. He says what he's going to do and he does what he says. He doesn't over state what needs to be done and works within your budget. He also gives you an idea what future issues may be on the horizon so you can plan for the repairs. Both times I had work done there, I was pleasantly surprised with my bill. He listens to you and will present you with options on how to go about the work. He is not one of those guys that just throws more and more parts at the problem in a hit or miss approach. Steve does repairs not just parts replacements. I had a windshield wiper issue. A connection to the wiper arm had broken and it could easily have been another $200.00 to replace the components. He actually took time and repaired the connection as opposed to ordering the whole assembly. I didn't have to beg for him to keep the costs down. His approach to his work has his customers' best interests in mind. His garage is the place to go for sure. He's very knowledgeable and he even remembers your name... with a year between services. The distributor wanted to pass on a significant price increase for shipping to the customer. The Forrest Howes' employee was respectfully pushing back and felt this was not right for the customer and the distributor should not do this as he was previously quoted a lesser price. I couldn't tell the details of the conversation, but it just made me feel like the place could be trusted and had integrity. It's always nice to see a business truly value their customers.
