I was screamed at by 2 men inside, saying "We're CLOSED!!!" I sat and watched 4 more customers be turned away by the same people. I would have spent almost $100 on my visit, as I normally do....however, clearly that did NOT happen. I have also had numerous RUDE encounters with another certain cashier, so much that I have considered never returning...I get it, there are people that come thru here that are not exactly "easy" to deal with....however, you also have patrons that are regular customers that keep you in business. Long story short, I now look for TWO different cashiers, and when they are there, I will NOT go in....it is worth it to me to go to another place and pay the extra $25 for a bottle. Otherwise, I am MORE than happy to go in when the other 2 or 3 VERY helpful and just "pleasant" cashiers are working....we only get better as a place of business when we treat others the way we expect to be treated when we are the consumer....food for thought. PS - when the shopkeeper left, I did mention that it could have been handled differently...the reply was "My drawer is counted at 8:45, and I get paid until 9:00....to the owner now...if you advertise that you are open until 9 pm, stay open until 9pm....and pay your employee until 9:30.....I for one am CERTQIN that my purchase would have more than paid for that additional 30 minutes of payroll.....

We weren't sure what we wanted to drink , so we asked the two gentlemen behind the counter a bunch of questions and they were very helpful . Back when I wrote my first review, in the good, old days of 2012, I lived on the same street as Old Town and it was easy to get to and had wine that I liked in my preferred price range (so...sweet, white and cheap...just like me! Hey-ooo! :-P) Now, I will regularly go out of my way to make a stop at Old Town. And these days it is primarily for their top notch beer selection! I am always prepared for the cold when I visit Old Town now, because I know I am going to be perusing the beer cave for quite some time. They rank among the top four places in Louisville I excitedly go to, in order to explore special, hard to find, interesting, sought after beer. Even if I am not looking for something specific, I am going to find something I already like if not something that piques my interest enough to try! The biggest plus of a visit to Old Town, aside from the friendly and helpful staff, is that you can buy just about all the beer options as SINGLES. This is huge. This changed my beer-drinking life. I have been able to try so many more beers because of this. When you aren't roped in to buying a four (or more) pack and the beer is 'fancy' and costs $5 or more per beer....doors suddenly open up! Old Town is in the middle of the Highlands, so parking can be tricky. They have a few dedicated parking spaces as well as a drive-thru (if you know exactly what you want) but beyond that it is going to be street parking. They still carry a great selection of wine and liquor, as well as some snack type things (thing cheese and crackers and chocolates). You should absolutely pay a visit to Old Town Wine and Spirits. Being a busy Friday night I felt my request was delaying other customers so I was leaving thanking him for his diligent search. He suggested I stop by the next day and he would keep looking for the other "letters". As I was leaving the next day, he assured me that he could also make some calls for me and to just stop by on my way out. Sure enough by 11:00am on Saturday he had located the other bottles and I left Louisville very happy and looking forward to my return visit! The best customer service I have ever had or heard of and I'm past my 75th birthday.

He is always drunk, smells like he hasn't bathed in weeks, and likes to mess with customers in a self serving act of utter cowardice to feed his ego. I have had to walk away from his unwarranted attacks numerous times and would never advise anyone to ever go there in the off chance you would encounter this person. He habitually seeks to harm and intimidate those who he perceives to be vulnerable by insulting their appearance and other Sophmoric and tasteless banter. When he is trying to pick a fight with you, he gets within 2 inches of your face and all one can digest is an extremely repugnant breath of intoxication, cigarette smoke, and pungent body odor. On 3/7/2020, "Keith" threatened with my life in the store and outside when leaving and I was forced to call 911 for fear of my safety. I have an 11 year old daughter named Ella and an 8 year old named Max and my life with them flashed before my eyes. I have no ax to grind, the employees are great the prices are great and location is fantastic. Had to post just to let the Highlands community of the risk. I'm not trying to be a hero. I have connected with the Fifth Division of the Metro Police and they have committed to closely monitoring the area and hopefully this isn't a problem going forward. If you are harassed, please call the local police. You are not a victim.

If you find yourself lollygagging around the store, odds are you're going to bump into someone/something and no one is going to be happy about it. There's, likely, a rhyme and reason to the organization but I didn't discern it. That means that you shouldn't come here if you're looking for the perfect bottle but you're short on time. Come here, when you have a second to wander (not, lollygag) and explore the options. Again, not a big space but there's a nice quantity and selection if you take the time to look for it. The folks at the counter are helpful but they're busy. If you need something, you may have to wait for a bit. Know this. If they ask you if you need help, say yes. You won't get asked again. This isn't an issue of being rude. It's an issue of having stuff to do. They keep it moving. I dig that. I tend to enjoy a relaxed (lollygagged) booze shopping experience, so SSBS will probably never be my go-to, but it's not at all a bad place to shop. Just follow the rules I laid out and all will be well. Oh, I saved the best part of this place for last: there's a drive-thru!
