It's good to know that even 6 years ago I liked Old Town. But now....I LOVE Old Town! 5 stars!! I think the biggest difference now is that I drink beer. Back when I wrote my first review, in the good, old days of 2012, I lived on the same street as Old Town and it was easy to get to and had wine that I liked in my preferred price range (so...sweet, white and cheap...just like me! Hey-ooo! :-P) Now, I will regularly go out of my way to make a stop at Old Town. And these days it is primarily for their top notch beer selection! I am always prepared for the cold when I visit Old Town now, because I know I am going to be perusing the beer cave for quite some time. They rank among the top four places in Louisville I excitedly go to, in order to explore special, hard to find, interesting, sought after beer. Even if I am not looking for something specific, I am going to find something I already like if not something that piques my interest enough to try! The biggest plus of a visit to Old Town, aside from the friendly and helpful staff, is that you can buy just about all the beer options as SINGLES. This is huge. This changed my beer-drinking life. I have been able to try so many more beers because of this. When you aren't roped in to buying a four (or more) pack and the beer is 'fancy' and costs $5 or more per beer....doors suddenly open up! Old Town is in the middle of the Highlands, so parking can be tricky. They have a few dedicated parking spaces as well as a drive-thru (if you know exactly what you want) but beyond that it is going to be street parking. They still carry a great selection of wine and liquor, as well as some snack type things (thing cheese and crackers and chocolates). You should absolutely pay a visit to Old Town Wine and Spirits. Old Town Wine & Spirits has the expertise to get you what you want, the selection to find it in and a drive-thru to give it to you -- a biz made for these crazy COVID-19 times! I was on the hunt for a local beer last week, and after a quick call to Old Town Wine & Spirits, I was relieved to find where to get it. Shortly after my call, I pulled up to the drive-thru, which is right off Bardstown Road. (After living in the Highlands for many years, I'm surprised that this was my first time using Old Town's drive-thru.) The clerk was able to quickly find the beer I wanted, answer a couple of questions and hand me my bag and receipt. I also noticed that on the drive-thru some party food, like benedictine spread, is listed for sale. You could get a lot of what you'd need for a big night in without leaving the car. Old Town especially excels at having a great selection, which extends to their beer, wine, spirits and other offerings. They carry lots of local brands. And in the pre-COVID times, Old Town was a fun place to peruse. I usually found a beer or several that I was intrigued to try. I suppose the fun thing now will be to explain to the clerks what I'm looking for and lean on their expertise to find something I want. Old Town has been around but really came into my life at the start of Covid. They got a selection that will satisfy everyone, they have great service, and they mastered the drive up window service. Staff was always masked and in good spirits. Get it? Spirits! One of the best things, was that they would have a doc on their instragram that listed their (mostly) up to date selection of beers/ciders/etc. It was easy to look at the list and be able to show up with a written list of what I wanted and just hand it to them. Discovered Old Town when I was visiting in family a few years ago. At that time I was impressed by the great selection of beer, wine, and spirits (v. nice selection of Bourbon). Old Town is my favorite liquor store in Louisville. It is conveniently located on Bardstown Road, and it even has a drive-thru! The people that work here are always so friendly and helpful. There's a wide variety of choices, especially when it comes to the wine selection. They even have snacks, like cheese and crackers, for your charcuterie board to top it all off. Old Town Wine and Spirits is the type of corner liquor shop that every city should have and Louisville should be happy they do! It's got some funk and charm on the exterior with the murals that are there. Walk inside and we were greeted right away by a friendly employee who wasn't overly eager but just excited to be of support. We let him know we were traveling to Kentucky from Texas and were looking for spirits that were only available in Kentucky that we could bring home to share. He walked us around the shop and suggested some things that he felt would fit the bill. We knew we wanted to pick up a few bottles, but weren't sure on deciding between a couple. Without hesitation the employee said that they had a bottle opened that he could do a small taster pour to help us decide. Decide we did and we took that bottle home with us! I've been on the fence for a while about Old Town. It's close and pleasant enough to be a frequent stop. I almost went with three-four stars. I used to go into liquor stores for bourbon. I checked the selection and prices. Since Old Town is in the Highlands, prices would border on a few dollars more than normal prices and way overpriced. That was always a turnoff for me and Old Town. This place started standing out to me when I started checking their beer selection. They have a lot of beer. Like other places, you can buy individual cans and bottles. Every time I've seen that feature in a store, I've always thought you had to create your own 6-pack(Maybe I don't want or need 6 beers)! Maybe I just need three IPAs. Maybe I'm in a stout mood and don't want to spend over 5 bucks. Here you can buy as many or as little as you'd like. It's ideal when you're headed to someone's place. It's also beneficial when you want to try a lot of beer and not be stuck drinking the same beer in the event that you don't like it. Their wine selection seems large. I do have a rule. I try not to buy a wine unless I can visit and buy directly from the winery. All I can do with the wine here is browse. The only thing I would change about Old Town is the customer service. Most of the time I visit, the employees are nice. I've been in there more than a couple of times, asked a question, and the employee has either been rude in front of me or I've heard them making some offbeat comment(like I'm already drunk and why wouldn't I know the answer already) as I'm walking away. Oddly enough, every time I go in, there are always different people working. I normally can't forgive that but in this case, I can. It's a liquor store in the Highlands. I'm there to pick up my stuff and be on my way. Since they're in the Highlands, I'd assume that there's always an attitude to combat the numerous alcoholics that come into the store on a regular basis. The last thing to mention is the drive-thru. It's cool that they have this feature, but it's honestly a cluster of a drive-thru. Parking lots in the Highlands are already tiny and cramped. Adding a drive-thru in... I wouldn't even attempt it on a Friday or Saturday night. Overall, I've grown to love Old Town. I'll gladly stop there for their beer selection anytime. read more

This place is pretty good as far as variety and prices. A little more pricey than places like Kroger. They have a nifty drive thru window so you can order ahead of time and pick up your liquor which is pretty awesome! On top of that they have a "by the can" section of cold beers. It is pretty large for the size of their store. Of course they also offer some special local stuff like Copper and Kings etc. I also feel like they have a good selection of smaller bottles behind their counter. It says 4 stars but I'm giving it a 4.5. A great place to find that unique or hard to find liquor. Also, if you are a bartender or like to mix your own drink, their bitter selection is huge! They have a great selection of bourbon and wine, their beer selection is a good size as well. They have growlers too. On the outside there are multiple murals, one I believe is by the local Louisville artist Noah Church. I love his murals, he's done others on bardstown road, like Cafe 360. There is also a large 3-piece neon sign on the corner, one being an arrow pointing to the drive through. The inside of the store is rather dark but don't worry, you can see everything. The isles are nice and roomy so also don't worry about bumping into anything. This is one of Louisville's most well known and award winning liquor stores. The reason for the four star rating is because, surprisingly, I could not find what I was looking for that day. The other is that I wish this place stayed open for an extra hour. read more

I came here to find hard to find bourbon for my sister ... which I ended up giving to my boyfriend instead since she's impossible to get a hold off. You snooze you lose. I wanted to buy Pappy's ... but they didn't carry it so I got Four Roses instead. It was a featured staff pick and is 62% alcohol. The staff wasn't nearly as knowledgeable about bourbon and whisky as I'd hoped ... what they lacked in knowledge, they made up for in helpfulness - by bubble wrapping my bottle so it survived the plane ride home. This place is quaint and cozy, while still having all the things you need. It's like going to your local corner store or deli. Less than a handful of staff, but you're never searching for assistance. Just what an "old town" spot should be like. Nevertheless, you can also easily maneuver around the store with their cleverly designed carts without issue. Second, they have an array of liquor and non-alcohol beverages to satisfy everyone. Grab your favorite Italian wine and your gourmet cheese & crackers in the same place. Not a wine-o (jk), no worries. Grab your favorite sparkling water, bourbon, vodka, rum, or tequila and don't forget the chips and dip on your way out. Lastly, they kick it up a notch by not only having great staff, but also having weekly events. They have a great selection of beer and a growler wall near the far end of the store. This is where I was nosying around and learned about the events and their website/social pages. Did I mention their sale/discount items?!? Just for giggles let's add: I've never walked in and not been greeted. I've also never looked for anything more than a minute without someone offering their assistance. My favorite part of Old Town is the wine selection. They have it broken down by varietal and country and there is always something new and exciting. When we lived in the Highlands we loved walking down to Old Town for a walk through the beer fridge to find our next venture in delectable brewed goodness. I also, admittedly, really enjoyed picking up the occasional Blue Dog Bakery baguette or some cellar door salted caramel chocolates. The real struggle was when they started carrying Louisville Cream pints! Nonetheless, this location offers up the best in beer and a solid selection of wines and even liquor. They will even order in beer they don't usually carry, though I have not tried this myself. I think the only catch for ordering beer is you have to buy a case or something of that nature. I can't believe it has taken me this long to review Old Town. This is the BEST liquor store in town for wine, beer, and liquor needs...and even some tasty snacks to go along with your drink as well. I lived a couple of blocks away from this spot for 11 years and I cannot tell you how many times I would swing in at the last minute for something and they always had exactly what I wanted. If I go in just to browse, they are always helpful in gearing you in the right direction based on your tastes/needs. I cannot say enough about how awesome this store is to step into on any given day. Part of their crew has been there forever and that makes it that much more special to me. I love that they have added a growler station in the recent past! Such a good way to keep up with the trends of beer and try some local/regional brews that you may not otherwise get to experience. Several weeks ago, my dad and I were on a road trip down South and decided to find a great liquor store to purchase some bourbons we couldn't get up in Wisconsin. Using our handy dandy yelp mobile app, we hopped off the freeway and found Old Town. Nestled in what was undoubtedly a very fun, exciting part of the city, Old Town was just what we were looking for. We walked in and were greeted by an extremely knowledgeable and friendly curator, whose name I've since forgotten. This guy knew his stuff for sure. We were steered towards the good stuff and we took it from there. After filling a case with some fine nectar, we were on our way, back on the road with some great stuff. We got back home and cracked into our first bottle, Johnny Drum. If any of our friend's suggestions are half as good as that, we'll be remembering this liquor store for the rest of our lives. If you're seeking some good-ol local bourbon, or a decent Brut champagne to take to a dinner party, or just a growler of a good brew to take home and kill by yourself, Old Town is the place to find it. The boyfriend and I are regulars here; he enjoys their beer selection whereas I favor anything in the wine aisles (and their selection of wine is outstanding). From what I understand, Old Town and Wine Market share the same owner, and have specially-picked wines from all areas and types. It's like they have specially tried each one and offer several different brands of each type of wine so you aren't just choosing a bottle from what the label looks like, and guessing if it will taste decent or not. If you're in the mood for a good California red blend, if you blindly grab anything from the section, it will be decently priced and will cure your craving perfectly. Same goes for their beer selection, they have TONS of different choices, and they have growlers you can fill for cheap, or build your own six pack. You can also buy just 1 bottle/can of beer to try to see if you like it before you commit to a 4 or 6 pack. Old Town delivers perfection when it comes to assisting customers with finding what they need. They also have Blue Dog bread, cheeses, dips, potato chips, nuts, snacks, etc. It is the perfect one stop shop. From my recent stop here, I had a pleasant experience (as always). I was just getting off of work from a long and stressful day, so I stopped by Old Town to grab a boxed Malbec wine to enjoy at home. Needless to say, my anxiety was through the roof from a hard work week and I needed a night in at home to relax and unwind. When I got home and poured a glass, I took a sniff and a sip and WOAH was it disgustingly ripe!! But, alas, the guys at Old Town were so helpful! I called up at Old Town and the guy who had rang me up just minutes prior picked up, and after telling him my situation, he calmly just said, "Yeah, if it's bad it's bad, we don't want you to be drinking wine that is sour. Bring it back and we'll fix it!" I also didn't have my receipt, but I went back, picked something else out, and left happy. This experience even made my anxiety/stress level decrease a bit. Old Town offers growler fills from six taps in the back of the store. The selections are written out on a chalk board and they are extremely knowledgeable about their product. However, this may be the only growler filling station I have ever been to that does not allow patrons to sample the beer before purchasing. The gentleman serving us explained that it was due to an infraction on their beer license. They were out of two of the six beers, but had received a new keg that had not made its way on the board yet. If we hadn't called ahead to ask what they had, we wouldn't have known it was available. They seemed to have an excellent selection of bottled/canned beer, liquor, and wine and I will definitely be back to check them out. read more

HUGE selection and probably includes stock from every distillery in kentucky. he is a regular here and has picks up his stock here, including the special bottles that i've requested (i.e Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve, 23 yrs). great overall service and selection. It looks old, has "old" in its name, and generally seems run-down. From the outside. It is even a drive-thru, which usually don't have a great connotation to them. Inside though, you'll be surprised by the size. It has wine, beer, liquor (of course), but then it also has cheeses, spreads, olives, (crackers maybe?) and even bread - that blue dog bakery bread to be exact. If it the bread is stocked up, be sure to try the one with walnuts in it, or probably any of their flavored bread paired with a sweet spread. Honestly, I have breezed through here on a number of occasions when I needed a last minute wine or snacks for a party and I've always found exactly what I needed. I called this morning looking for a hard to find bottle as well as a new store to do business. Today I was looking for a bottle of Blanton's but basically was told they didn't need my business if all I wanted to buy was Blanton's. I do buy a great deal of rare bourbons for out of state customers, including but not limited to just Blanton's. Just a suggestion, probably isn't a good idea to turn away potentially big customers in the future or any customer wanting to spend money in your store for that matter! read more

This is our neighborhood liquor store and I like it a lot. We live very close and walk to it often. It has a great selection of craft beer (and a beer cave which is always fun!). You can mix and match 6 packs. I also like the taps that have been added in the past year, so you can now fill up a growler while you're in there. The wine and bourbon selection is very good as well. The staff are friendly and helpful, but the real reason I love this place...you can take your dog! I've taken my dog to Old Town several times and they even give her treats when she comes in. Old Town Liquors, and its sister store, The Wine Market, are icons in the Highlands and for good reason. Whether you are stopping by to grab a $10 bottle on the way home from work, you are looking for a special wine to match a particular dinner, or even if you are a collector....their selection is fantastic and the staff is very knowledgeable, eager and willing to help. It may be a sad statement about how *often* we go to this store, but they all know my kids and even know my taste in wine now. :-) It's no surprise that when Bloom Elementary needed a premier sponsor for a fundraising event last fall that Claudia and Gordo (the owners) stepped up to the plate. They provided all the wine and beer for our event and helped us raise over $12,000. These guys are the best. read more

I just received very unhelpful and somewhat patronizing service over the phone. I was calling about Pappy 20, 15 or 12 year for my father, and the guy basically told me that he would never sell that to a "random person calling", he would sell it to his good customers. In fact, he told me the last two people he sold to when he got "a couple of bottles in, they went to John Yarmuth and Jerry Bruckhiemer". Bully for them. I proceeded to call Top Hat and received excellent service. The salesperson there also told me they didn't have any, but proceeded to entertain me with some bourbon lore as to a possible reason why, and THEN suggested some other fine bourbons my father may like to try. This place has such a variety it's hard to go wrong. Before entering you see a pretty cool mural of the Kentucky favorite The Great Gatsby. This place is cool for many things but the best thing is the people. If you ask a question they go the extra mile trying to find exactly what you want to drink. They have a large beer cooler that I always freeze my butt off in bc of all the choices. Lastly, I want to give props to the snack food and chocolate. They have an area where you can buy various dips, and the local blue dog bread, etc. if you have questions don't hesitate To ask! You are amount good people! read more
