Just like the new owner back in 2012, I too fell in love with the Man 'O Ross Hotel and the Ross region. I did not, however, fall in love with the food. This is one of those classic Aussie hotels you can perch at the bar all day in and on our visit there were plenty of locals doing just that. The restaurant had a roaring fire going and reserved tables soon filled with a mix of young tradies ordering parmas and a pint, and possibly the oldest residents of Ross, a quirky couple who stared at me all evening. My daughter and I ate there twice in order to give them a second chance (and because our only alternative was instant noodles). She had the kids meals and I had the roast and second night the chicken salad. You wouldn't think anyone could get a chicken salad wrong, and yet, it's a very real surety here. Our tiramisu took 3 games of pool after dinner and 2 reminders to arrive and even then tasted like it had just come out of the freezer. The second night dessert was sticky date pudding ... Just. The staff are friendly country people and you can't really get beer wrong, although they had run out of Boags the first night. After dining there, I think I will try to remember to shop prior and eat at our accommodation (which probably won't be the Man 'O Ross) should we ever return. read more
