When I woke up and was just out of recovery, she again came by and reassured me that everything went fine and just gave me the vote of confidence I needed to get through this. The next day she popped into the hospital to check up even though she was not on call and it was her day off. She explained everything again so that I understood it - as I was on pretty heavy narcotics the previous day. For a major surgery- I was in and out in less than two days with minimal pain. Originally, I booked an appointment with Carolann because I was interested in trying to lose weight using hypnotherapy. After meeting or talking on the phone with half a dozen hypnotherapists, I settled on Carolann because she came across as genuine, caring, empathetic, and an experienced professional. Plus, she had a soothing voice which I thought would be perfect for hypnotherapy sessions (call her and you'll see!). Shortly after I began working with her, I ended up going through an unexpected and traumatic life experience that lasted two years. Carolann served as my therapist during that time and I credit her with keeping me sane. She provided me with a safe space to vent/process. She also was a caring and empathetic listener who asked insightful and thoughtful questions which helped me grow, become more self-aware, and better cope with my situation. And finally, she served as my unwavering champion during this time period, and I so appreciated her warmth, empathy, and support. It has been over two years since I last saw her and I still find myself drawing on some of the tools/insights she taught me. She provided us with lots of useful birth information and provided us with hypnobirthing audios, which we listened to daily at home. I especially liked how involved my partner had to be with all the different relaxing tools. Hypnobirthing is definitely a team effort! We practiced the tools diligently and found that they were the key to having a great labor. I was pleasantly surprised how manageable the surges were! I was able to give birth at home with no pain meds or interventions. I would definitely do hypnobirthing if I was going to give birth again! Plus, Jackie has a very pleasant hypnosis voice. I have full paralysis of one arm following a serious accident. The injury is in the spinal cord so it's irreversible. When I saw Wendy it was about 10 months post-accident and four months after being out of bed following a series of surgeries. My primary focus at that time was adapting to the changes and getting my life back, but a wrench was thrown into those works and I went to Wendy for support and solutions. She accused me of faking or exaggerating my disability for attention; lying about being married (this was profoundly bizarre); and desperately needing DBT when really what I needed was professional intervention and a legal advocate. The two sessions I had with Wendy were surreal. She was inappropriately fixated on my hair and what I was wearing, and made uncomfortable comments about my appearance, my disability, and my experiences. She demanded full records from my regular therapist (who actually did help a great deal with transitioning into disability) in a non-HIPAA compliant format and expressed anger when my therapist wasn't willing to engage. Her communication with the other therapist was not appropriate or secure and at the time I was encouraged to file a complaint with the state. I regret not doing this. If you are a woman, in an unsafe marriage, or living with a disability: please avoid Wendy. Her personal pathologies are splayed all over her work and, as the other woman reviewing her has said, the result is damage to the patient.
