Situated on the corner of Pleasant Street and Route 6 in Woodbury, CT, this little park is often…read moreforgotten by the residents, except at Christmas, when the town's tree is decorated and lit. It's not included in the list of the town's recreational facilities, nor is it one of the popular sites for family picnicking. One of the reasons is the lack of parking, which makes this a great place to walk to from anywhere in town, instead of taking the car. There's a number of benches, some provided by the town, others, built and dedicated by the local Lions in memory of deceased members. The bandstand (NEVER call it a gazebo!) was also built by the Lions in 1986, and is dedicated to the memory of local composer Leroy Anderson. It's popular with local residents as a dog walk area, or as a place to sit and quietly reflect. There are several large trees, and an open space that's great for that quick Frisbee toss. It's also the place with the most advertising signs because of its location along Route 6, and the traffic light that requires cars to stop in front of them. I'm all for green space in any town. I wish this little park would get more use.

The gazebo and benches make a nice pit stop when walking along the sidewalk of route six. Like many other town greens, there is not much to do and it is not big enough for town wide events, but nice little areas to bring your family for some fresh air on nights and weekends.

Aside from the large playground, there is a sports field, picnic spot, pool, and ball courts. There is a skate park and a paved 1 mile loop walking trail. It is stroller friendly which is a plus. They also host the hot air balloon event in August. The residents and visitors are lucky to have this recreational area. There were plenty of parking; it was a busy day when we went. We enjoyed the playground; there was shade and picnic tables throughout. It even has a zipline/swing type playscape, which I've never seen before elsewhere. Overall, it's definitely a nice park!

This was a really nice hike I took recently. My cousin took me here and mentioned was a popular…read morespot to hike and swim at. It was so cool to walk through the trail with all the fall leaves and there wasn't anyone around at all so was able to enjoy nature (went in the middle of the week). The weather was perfect and cool which worked out as I did sweat. I was able to make it to the tower and had a really nice view around with the trees and the water. There is a beach too but we only drove passed it (looked really nice). For the tower just watch your head as there are spots, including going outside, you have to duck. It is a short trail up to the tower but be aware some spot can be a bit challenging to climb with going up hill and rocks. It did rain prior and was a bit slippery too but gotta watch your footing regardless. Overall this was a great place and would absolutely come back.

There are two ways to get here: the paved road and the gravel road. If you have a 4x4 or another…read morehigh clearance vehicle, even bikes, you can do the unpaved road. Google did me a solid and took me on the unpaved road, which at the beginning is bumpy and soft, and seems very doable, but quickly turns rocky and hilly, and eventually goes berserk and turns into a road with big cracks, branches that are down, water puddles and brooks, a beautiful place to walk but not for a luxury four door sedan rental, which is what I always rent and ride. I'm joking, I rent two door vehicles, cheap gas, you know. Anyway, I went a bit too far hoping for the road to patch up and be normal, but after a few craters I knew that this road was a trail more than a road. So, if you are coming to Mohawk Mountain, do not leave the unpaved road because it will lead you to the main entrance and not where I was, which I never will know if it even leads to Mohawk Mountain since I aborted it after the second knock on the transmission. Oh! Yes, no way to turn around either, so I had to undo a large part of the trail on reverse. Good thing I know how to drive well! Other than that, this place is really cool. The name may be borrowed from an offshoot of the larger Iroquois nations, the Mohawk-Iroquois, which occupied New York, not Connecticut. As far as I know, the name of the tribe that may have inhabited this area is disputed.

Bantam River Park is across from the former Bantam Town Hall. It's small but cute. There's a lovely…read moregarden in the spring, and currently signs explaining former historical landmarks in Bantam. I'm not sure if it's just me, but I forget some of these small towns used to have THINGS, instead of just shopping and restaurants. Bantam had factories like many other small towns. They made horse carriages, one of which is on display in a small barn. There's a waterfall you can admire, although I believe access is restricted by gated fence.

Harrybrooke Park is a 48 acre park located in New Milford. It's on the Still River and once…read morebelonged to a couple named Elizabeth and Frank Harden; they donated it in 1965. The house on the property that was built in 1941 is now a museum. There is a paved trail along the river, it has beautiful views and it's short at 0.75 miles. There are trails, meadows, wetlands, a garden, and pavilions. We visited for the Easter egg hunt event. They did a great job with dispersing the Easter eggs around for the kids. The park was large and gorgeous, perfect for events like that one. The trail was nice; however, there was a creepy dilapidated shack on it. I heard that they do a haunted trails event in the fall, which I am interested in going!

The park is split up into three sections, West Park, Center Park, and East Park. It is surrounded by restaurants, shops, religious buildings, historic homes etc. There are benches, Cival War cannon, memorials for the Cival War, World Wars, Korean, and Vietnamese wars. There were plenty of street parking throughout the area. The area was bustling with traffic and people. Overall, from first impressions, Litchfield gave me that charming New England town feel; their town green was also just as lovely.

Now it's about two islands of grass with a few plaques and benches, surrounded by shops and a chaotic traffic system. There is an information booth that is staffed I believe more in the week. The Green has summer concerts, bring your own chair, and an annual craft fair. Parking is most okay, but when there's an event or summer weekend it's packed. There is a parking lot behind the storefronts, and now that the pandemic is over there are separate roads to enter and exit. (The pandemic saw the exit sacrifice for outdoor dinning, and getting out became a very careful drive) Cops do like to sit on the Green for stopping and cell phone citations, and will judge the drivers on whether they look like they belong. They do give that game away when they ask how long you've lived in a lower income city, and not only have you never lived there, they're literally reading your license with a completely different address. That's not really the fault of the Green itself though.
