It's not far from Homebase or the town centre, so they've certainly got competition, but somehow they have got their own niche market, and good on them! I called in while passing just looking for some hooks. It's a bit of an emporium inside, but just ask and they'll point you straight to what you're looking for. It wasn't expensive either, which is always a bonusin fact it was probably quite a lot cheaper than if I'd carried on as planned to Homebase! Small but welcoming, cluttered but lovely. Internally it's pretty much what you'd expect: they've got a massive lighting department just in the front door, kitchens and bathrooms beyond, loads of tiles and flooring and then the less interesting things towards the end. I had a return to make today and it was processed really efficiently even though I didn't have the receipt, and I've always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. A good place to visit for all DIY needs.

There is a little cafe if you need a cuppa and there are normally quite a few bargains to be had too, when they reduce things they do it properly! The staff are always friendly and on the odd occasion when we've taken anything back its always been made easy for us. They also have one of those fab big saws for cutting wood the the exact size you need - but if you're making a special trip for the big saw phone ahead to make sure it's working, because it is sometimes out of order - normally when we need it!!

The man with the moustache who served us was really friendly and welcoming. All of the furniture is really great quality - fantastic solid oak woods - and we were really surprised at how cheap it was. It was so easy to find everything we needed - the shop is open plan with a few showrooms upstairs. Since last year, we've returned for new carpets, pillows, all sorts. Although it's called the Carpet Warehouse they sell beds, furniture, pillows, mattresses, all sorts of stuff for the home. I always recommend the Carpet Warehouse to my friends - it's fab.

The Selby branch has a large, bright and modern show room displaying a fair range in general DIY. There is also a furniture department and an outside green house and landscaping section. There is a large kitchen and bathroom display area upstairs. The assistant enters the measurements of the room and the computer can show what each type of kitchen or bathroom could look like. Homebase often have 10% off weekends, which are worth the wait for the more expensive items and sales. My only gripe is they are often more expensive than the local Focus further down on Bawtry road.

They have also thrown in a few mattresses and bed frames for good measure - figuring that if you are changing your carpet then you are likely going the whole hog.
