Little Bee is an incredible preschool, and I could not recommend it enough to prospective parents. Our son has attended the Funston (Presidio) location since he was 2 years old. Each class has 3 main teachers + floating teachers, who all care for the kids with kindness and empathy. The campus' location in the Presidio creates an idyllic and beautiful environment for the kids - they go outside to explore nature every morning and we get sent daily pictures and videos of their adventures. We love the Mandarin immersion aspect, and our son is fully bilingual thanks to the teachers' efforts. Sarra, the director of Little Bee, runs a tight and efficient ship. The involved PTA organizes many community events, such as monthly playdates, Easter Egg Hunts, an annual Camp Out, Pumpkin Picking, Santa's Brunch, parents' nights out and more across the Funston and Lombard locations. Beyond just a preschool, this is also a supportive, caring, welcoming community of families and we have met many wonderful friends through Little Bee. read more

Everyday (for the past two years) we would commute 30 minutes one way to drop him off school. Was it worth it? Absolutely! LB is a wonderful place for kids to thrive and explore. My speech delayed child was able to thrive with the help of his nurturing and attentive teachers (especially Ying). He would happilily tell us about his daily adventure walks around the neighborhood, who he was playing with and what he did during circle time. Everyday, i look forward to the videos and photos of him because it captured the pure happiniess, curiosity and joy he had. Listening to him count in mandarin and singing in mandarin really made my rush hour, chaotic commute all worth it. read more

Our daughter had her graduation last week and we are crying tears of joy for her next school adventure but also tears of pure sadness that we are leaving this precious and cherished establishment! We feel very lucky that our daughter has had such an enriching experience for her early years - caring teachers, cherished friends/classmates, Mandarin language, theme and project based activities, you will not find another center in this city that has this much access and utilizes their access to a National Park. Daughter has talked about banana slugs, cranes, gophers, hawks, parrots, pelicans etc! I am the world's biggest fan of Little Bee. It's a magical place and I'm so grateful my daughter is able to go to school there. We hear a lot about other schools from our friends and they all pale greatly in comparison to Lily's academic and social experience as well as the community of amazing families of which we are all a part! ( Everyone often comments on how advanced our daughter is, and I attribute a lot of that to the incredible teachers at Little Bee (my husband and I will take a little bit of the credit ). I could go on and on about all of the other great things - the Mandarin immersion experience (my husband and I have European backgrounds so don't speak any Mandarin and it's been totally fine!), the location, Sarra the incredible director/mom guru, the daily schedule, the focus on outdoor time in the Presidio and exercise, the provided healthy lunch and snacks, the interior of the school which Sarra has designed every inch to maximize learning, all of the fun family things we do outside of school time, the tight knit parent community of smart and humble and lovely people, etc etc. I can't wait for my second child to start there soon. Best decision ever made! They are the cleanest and most organized daycare/preschool we have ever enrolled our son. We were worried about full day for him but little bee has a very thoughtful way of easing the little one into their school program. The teachers are very attentive and communicate with us daily. One of the best preschools in the city to develop happy and healthy little humans. This place is great because they have a very kind and caring staff who have a very good understanding of child safety and development. The staff is all Mandarin speakers and they have little to no turnover unlike many of the other schools in the area. It's a stress free environment and parents are as happy as the children who go there. They have plenty of outdoor activities and get their hands dirty with tree climbing, running, and hiking. I highly recommend this school for ages 2-5 years old. I have never seen my son more happy than he was at Little Bee. Our 22-month old toddler is enjoying his time at Little Bee Presidio. Little Bee made the transition to daycare easy for both my child and us (the parents). The communication has been great from the start - with speedy responses when I had questions and detailed information to get us prepared for our child's first day. Also, in the current environment with COVID, the Little Bee team provided a thoughtful and thorough process to ensure safety and cleanliness every day at every hour. I really appreciate how proactive they have been in these uncertain times! The two other wonderful things that I would like to mention include: 1) The new Presidio campus is a beautiful environment for children. The house is bright, sunny, spacious and full of wonderful things for the children to play with. Little Bee has created their own mini version of the SF Exploratorium! There is a gated yard full of acivity sets and toys for the children to play with. The Presidio location allows the children to do mini field trips in the surrounding greenery, ponds, and beaches. 2) Secondly, the Little Bee team demonstrates love for their kids and is fully engaged with them throughout the day. I usually get a quick summary of my child's day at pick up, and I appreciate the details provided by the teachers. Parents receive daily photos of the children in the midst of their activities. The Little Bee teachers provide a variety of activities (rain or shine) daily that include Mandarin-immersion lessons, art, science, and reading. We love Little Bee! Our son started there at 18 months and has loved his time there. We chose LB for its Mandarin immersion program with a more western educational philosophy and it proved out to be so great for our son. His Chinese has improved and he has a strong love for learning. He also loves the outdoors and nothing can beat the Presidio. The teachers are all so amazing and love the kids. Sarra the director/owner is also incredible. As first time parents, she helped us with Ollie and has suggested several tips when we needed it around potty training, sleeping, and transitioning to a new school eventually. We moved, so my son unfortunately doesn't go there anymore. We highly recommend Little Bee! read more

I wrote this review back in July 2019 before we moved out of San Francisco (SF) but forgot to post it. Overall I am extremely happy with our experience at this school. I toured Little Bee (LB) with the former co-owner (Miranda) and I didn't even meet Sarra until months later when my daughter (DD) got in and started. Sarra is a gem! One of the hardest things about moving out of San Francisco was leaving such a wonderful daycare that my DD loved. Some parents drive their kids from much further parts of the city or even outside of the city to come too LB. It's worth the drive. Details: My DD started LB in February 2019 at about 16 months old; it was her first time going to any daycare. I often refer to LB (Cow Hollow, Pink House) as a school instead of daycare because they have a curriculum and it operates with the structure of a school. The upper pink house had only 6 kids and I love the smaller setting. The bottom house has 12 kids and I think it's the same curriculum but younger kids might start on top and move down as they progress to preschool readiness - however, just depends on space where the kids are assigned. Some things I love and really appreciate about Little Bee: 1. Sarra (owner/manager) is easy to work with and does a great job running LB. I trust her and feel like she seeks constructive feedback so she can improve and ensure everyone's needs/concerns are addressed. 2. The teachers are kind and patient. My DD cried a bit when she started and they were never showed frustration or made us feel like she might not be ready for daycare. They were loving and helped us understand it's just a normal transition process. 3. Structured, fun, and thoughtful curriculum. Prior to the end of each month, we get a lunch menu and a calendar of what the kids will be doing each day for their activities. Sometimes parents are asked to bring an item for the day's project. Monday is bring something to share day, Tues-Thur has an activity that can be art/science/cooking related, and Friday is music day with a teacher from Little Bear Music School. 4. I missed parent teacher conference but my husband was impressed that LB has a whole list of things they track and are making sure to prepare the kids for so they can succeed in preschool. Their students get into the best preschools in SF. 5. Daycare facility: clean and safe with a playground in the backyard. Sometimes my DD doesn't want to leave school when I pick her up b/c she's busy playing. 6. Outdoor play: Everyday (weather permitting) they are outside and go to nearby parks. If its lightly raining, they might just walk around the neighborhood looking at flowers, just so that they get some outdoor time. LB is on busy Lombard St where there's a ton of construction right now. At first I was nervous about DD walking around that area but the teachers are very careful and there is a 1:3 teacher student ratio. 7. Little Bee Parents: a wonderful community of folks that I find easy to get along with. 8. Diversity: happy kids from diverse backgrounds who support one another. I heard when my DD first joined, she was the youngest so the older kids would hug her or help her out when she cried. I could also see how kind they are to her when they greet her at drop off and also I see pictures of them pushing her in the cars at the playground. She's never been bitten or been hurt by another child. When she got a little bruise from banging her head on her water bottle (she does much worse at home) they told me right away 9. Photos: My favorite time of day is around 1pm when we get photos of the kids. We get an photo stream of almost 100 photos a day of what the kids are doing from when they start til lunch time. It allows me to gage my DD's mood and see all the fun things they are doing. 10. Diaper changes: never had a diaper rash and she always has a fresh clean diaper when I pick her up, and face is clean (wiped of food and snot - not all daycares/preschools keep kids this clean) 11. Food is catered: Food seems good and it's catered so they don't need to spend any staff cooking and cleaning. The catering service might not be available in the future, tbd, but it is now and we love it. One challenge might be that the teachers only speak Mandarin, but it's not really a big deal b/c they use Google translate and can communicate anything that requires more detail. Otherwise, I get a report on how much my DD ate, if she pooped, and how much she slept, and overall mood if it's anything remarkable. read more

Sending our daughter to Little Bee was one of the best decisions we made as parents. The staff is incredibly nice and enthusiastic with all the children. Our daughter couldn't wait to go to school every day, and was always greeted with a big smile and hug. A few other things that stood out. 1) Our daughter learned Chinese quite quickly and really surprised us with her language learning skills. 2) The amount of time the kids spend outdoors in the Presidio is incredible - I couldn't think of a more fun place to explore the natural world and build character. 3) Sarra (head of school) is super responsive and attentive - she really 'cares' and is clearly on top of every detail. 10/10 would recommend Little Bee! read more

I have been very impressed by the operations of this preschool. The owner is absolutely committed to providing fun and interesting experiences for the kids. The director at the Lombard location is on top of everything (very responsive) and extremely engaged with the kids. My daughter loves her and the teachers as well. The kids get lots of outdoor time. They go for a walk in the park in the morning, then back to the preschool for circle time, lunch, nap and then in the afternoon they have playtime in their outdoor space. And the parent community is amazing. Parents are pretty engaged and there's lots of events. read more

Little Bee is a nurturing and enriching school. We were lucky enough to start in 2021 with our daughter after almost zero social life per the pandemic. She adjusted well and the teachers were so caring, patient and communicative. This school does an amazing job of fostering community as well; there are numerous hosted events for the holidays that are catered with entertainment and usually a photographer. I found their director to be extremely responsive to my concerns and questions as they came. Photos of daily activities are uploaded to a shared folder for family viewing. Love love love this school, and will miss it very much! -would not be leaving if we were not moving! Highly recommend Little Bee!! read more

We had been with the school since my son turned 2. It has one of the best locations in close proximity to great outdoor spaces, offers the full Mandarin-immersion environment that I want, and it also provides such a fun and nurturing environment- not just to the kid but also to the parents. From day one, Sarra the owner coached us on how to say bye-bye, how to work with my boy to do things he would typically said no to, ease my anxiety along the way including how to navigate the independent school applications. Their fabulous director Caroline is always full of energy and ideas, and the kids love going to school and come home with good habits. We absolutely loved Little Bee and being part of the community. Sarra recently started another location inside the Presidio (world class location for a preschool) that has a huge space with multiple rooms, so the setup is quite ideal to manage the COVID exposure. read more

We've been happy and grateful for our experience with Little Bee. This was our daughter's first experience with daycare (she was there at 2.5 years old) after a year of being cooped up mostly indoors. Even though we live a 25 min drive away, we thought it was absolutely worth it to shepherd our daughter there every day with the commute. A few specific comments: 1) We are at the Lombard location. The teachers are very kind, particularly when our daughter took a few days to get used to the daycare. Carmen sent us photos and info on how she was settling in. I still ask the teachers once in awhile how she's doing and they are always very caring in their responses 2) I love that they are outdoors a few hours a day every day, and think it's a really unique experience. I believe (knock wood) that being outdoors so much in addition to the use of masks for everyone has led to my daughter getting sick less than she would at a regular indoor daycare. I'm envious of where my daughter gets to go to every day! She's also gotten more endurance and walks just as quickly as I do!  3) Lunch is provided 4 days a week (Chinese food) and we are asked to bring lunch one day a week. I do wish there were some more varied options for the lunch provided but my daughter eats and enjoys what's provided 4) I definitely look forward to the photo reels once a day of what the kids have been up to 5) There are music classes twice a week (we pay additional but a very reasonable amount), which is a really nice addition 6) I really like that my daughter has exposure to different age groups. Her class had older kids in the beginning and I could tell she was shy. She warmed up over the weeks and then especially so some other younger kids joined. Now I see her in photos playing with kids of all ages! 7) Everything is very organized and structured. There's a planned lesson every day and we get heads up on what they are doing in the next week I am reassured when I drop off my daughter that she's in safe and loving hands with the teachers. I love this preschool. My son started to attend Little Bee when he was 2 1/2 year old. When I first started to search for a Mandarin Immersion Preschool for my son, there were few other choices such as Presidio Knolls, The Little Footprint and Fun with Mandarin Preschool. Finally I had chosen Little Bee because of it's low student teacher ratio. It is imperative that he receives lots of tender loving care and safety at this young age. I am so happy that I did the right choice. Other than this, I also love that kids can get to go out everyday other than staying in the school from 9 to 5. They visited places near the school such as the library on Chestnut Street, Cow Hollow Playground, Marina Green, Fort Mason, Presidio, Crissy Field, the beach and The Palace of Fine Arts. At first I was a little skeptical for this daily activity, but after a few times accompanied them for outing, I believed that my son would be safe and on a good hand thanks to its low student teacher ratio. My son is now going to CAIS, one thing I do really miss is the pictures from his daily activities. Everyday at 1pm, I would rush to check my email to see my son and see what he was doing earlier. Our shy son LOVES Little Bee -- he is incredibly well taken care of and the teachers go way above and beyond the normal daycare protocol. They go on a field trip every single day (today they took the cable car to the water), eat healthy foods, are engaged in unique, fun activities. His Mandarin continues to improve even though neither of his parents speak the language. Miranda and Sarra, the directors, just get it -- they are both incredibly bright, warm, and FUNNY. They send tons of photos everyday and both of us greatly look forward to these emails in our inbox. Our son always has a huge smile in all of the photos. We were so glad that our kid got to start her school life with Little Bee. It was a good start and she was the youngest kid of her class. Not long after we moved from 3 days per week to 5 days since she enjoyed school so much. We love Little Bee's teachers. They are the key reason why our kid adapted to school so fast and is happy everyday. Though our kid loves food, she's a picky eater. We were glad to learn that our kid started to eat certain food in school (healthy food that parents always want kids to have) that she didn't at home. Our son attended Little Bee at the Funston Street location for 1.5 years, starting at about 19 months old. We had an excellent experience during our time there. The teachers were warm and attentive, and we loved the play-based curriculum. We were impressed by the level of feedback about our son's development we would get from the school's director Sarra and the teachers at the semi-annual parent/teacher 1:1 meetings. It's a very thoughtfully run operation. The kids spend tons of time outside exploring the beautiful Presidio, and we loved seeing their adventures in the shared photo album the teachers populated each day. Our son started at the Pink School around 21 months in December 2018. The first time we went for the playdate when we were on our way out the door to leave, he actually ran back to the teachers because he enjoyed the class so much. We knew if we got in, we had to go. We were on the waitlist for a couple months after the playdate before we were able to officially attend. Our son enjoyed every moment at the Pink School not only because the teachers are so encouraging and loving, but the activities are so mentally and physically stimulating. The kids are even shown how to mix pancake batter! We were both ecstatic and sad when Sarra said our son was ready for White School after only a few months because we became attached to the teachers and routine at Pink School. But when we got to the White School, we loved the teachers and curriculum so much that the sadness from leaving Pink School did not last too long. Our son's Mandarin is now far better than mine and my husband's now we know that the school takes its Mandarin lessons seriously. If we have a second child, we will definitely be enrolling at Little Bee again. If you are lucky to get a spot at Pink School or White School, don't hesitate to grab it as you will be thrilled with how happy your child is when you pick them up at the end of the day. A huge shout out to Sarra who is not only organized and professional, but incredibly patient and understanding--someone you feel truly cares about your family's well-being. She and her team of teachers are genuinely kind and thoughtful in their teaching methods. Loved, loved the daycare. Sarra (owner) does a great job running the daycare and has a great sense of humor and personality. Her communication was always straight forward and clear, making sure to let you know immediately if something unusual happened. (E.g. my son lost a shoe on their way back from the park, or if he had a fever, etc) From day one until our last day (We moved out of town) I felt always very comfortable leaving my son. All teachers are/were amazing, caring and loving. Of course the mandarin immersion program was great. Our son has been going to Little Bee Day Care for 4 months now and all I can really say is that this place is amazing. Send your kid here. Here are some of the reasons why we feel so fortunate to have found this place: -- Sarra, Miranda, and the rest of the staff really care for the kids, and it shows. I feel they treat my son as if they were a member of their family. -- The teacher-to-student ratio is ridiculously low. I never have to worry about my son not getting enough attention. There are 3 adults for the 6 children. -- They truly take advantage of all this great city has offer, frequently taking the kids to the local parks/playgrounds, the library, farmer's market, etc. -- The little 'science experiments,' cooking sessions, and art creation my son partakes each week is absolutely amazing. His confidence, coordination, and dexterity has improved drastically in only a few months. -- And oh yes, the Mandarin... my son is already speaking words in Chinese with almost perfect intonation. They teach in English and Mandarin. -- Lastly, the daily pictures. I don't know if other day cares/ pre-schools do this, but Little Bee actually post pics taken throughout the day of our little one and others and posts them to a private Google+ group. It is sometimes tough to spend so much time apart from him during long week days, but these pics really help my husband and I feel closer to him during the day. This review is long overdue. We have been involved with Little Bee for nearly 8 years! The fabulous teachers and directors nurtured and fostered both of my children from the time that they were two to the time they were ready to start kindergarten. My youngest just graduated and we will miss this amazing school. Both of my children emerged from preschool confident, curious, and academically and emotionally prepared for "big" school. And they had fun and made friends good friends along the way. What sets Little Bee apart is that the staff takes the time to get to know the whole child, to understand their needs, and to find ways to engage them in learning (while disguising it as fun). Little Bee was a sensational school for our family. Both of our daughters attended for several years, and we were incredibly happy. The teachers are excellent - caring, safe, attentive. They do a great job of teaching an incredibly difficult language, particularly for families like ours with no at-home Mandarin. The school is very diverse - may families that speak Mandarin at home and many that don't, and they do a great job of creating community among the parents. They were incredibly thoughtful about health and safety - both pre-pandemic and from its earliest arrival, including by helping kids to understand the importance of washing hands and social distancing and explaining how the virus works through kid-understandable demonstrations using glitter. The parent-teacher conferences were great, demonstrating true understanding and investment in our kids. And the assistance in finding the right kindergarten and guiding through the process was very impressive. The school facilities are outstanding - one in the Presidio and one just outside its gates, and they utilize the great surroundings with daily trips to playgrounds, parks, beaches and other amazing spots in the school vicinity. Food was always healthy. And the daily photos showing off the imaginative daily craft-based learning, exercise and outings were always a highlight of our day. The director Sarra is always available, and a great and dedicated person. We highly recommend Little Bee for any family that is interested in a loving Mandarin immersion school in SF. read more

We have had our son at Little Bee for over two years, since he was 18 months. It has been fantastic. We have been very happy with his experience both at the Pink School and the White School. In particular, we have been thrilled with the care and enthusiasm the teachers bring to school every day. We had some concerns about Mandarin immersion but it's worked out wonderfully. Our son has enjoyed it and he's gotten exposed to an entirely different language (we speak English at home). My daughter started at Little Bee Pink School at 2 years old. We were super lucky to get in after a few month of wait. Can't say enough good things about the school - my daughter had major separation anxiety and they had a professional hugger (AKA teacher's aid) that just held her and gave her all the attention and love that she needed. After several months, my daughter graduated to the white school and this is where my daughter thrived. She was singing mandarin songs, teaching me words in mandarin, and most importantly making lots of friends. She loved the teachers and the curriculum - they having outings on a daily basis along with a monthly theme to encourage exploration and learning. I also want to share the parent community is incredibly strong. We have graduated from Little Bee but have made life long family friends. Families travel on trips together, have outings, and lots of playdates....I wish we could stay at Little Bee forever. read more

Little Bee has been an amazing experience for our two boys! After a 6 month hiatus from in person schooling due to the pandemic, we enrolled our 2 and 4 year old into Little Bee. Little Bee helped them regain their confidence and encouraged them to further improve their social skills. We especially love that Little Bee spends most of the mornings outside exploring the Presidio vs. the standard 30 mins/day of outdoor time that most preschools offer. Sarra and Carmen are both wonderful directors and are incredibly easy to communicate with. They've recently worked well with us in regards to one of our kid's challenging nap schedules and are always very attentive to each child's development. Lastly, we love the transparency that the school offers in sending out weekly curriculums and adding to daily photo streams. We highly recommend Little Bee as a wonderful preschool! read more

We LOVE Little Bees. My daughter started out there when she turned 2 years old. Initially she was quite shy but over the years, the teachers at Little Bees have really helped her to blossom. The teachers are all so warm and caring. They are also very attentive to all the children. All the arts and crafts they learn have been so fun. read more
