I get it trips get cancelled when there aren't enough people signed up for it. But in this case, they didn't even bother to tell me/us. Even got the confirmation/reminder email the day before. So being at the pickup point and its 5 minutes after we're supposed to leave, I call them to see what's going on and then they tell me it got cancelled and I should've been told Tuesday, but obviously wasn't and again, even got the confirmation/reminder email the day before. As someone that doesn't get a lot of time out work to burn a day off with nothing to show for it is extremely frustrating, and honestly, I just can't risk getting burned again. The owner Ted called later that day offering to make it right and I was refunded the money for the trip and the other trip I cancelled but I can't risk burning another day off with nothing to show for it. The people have always been nice, so I won't completely knock them, but beware even getting a confirmation email the day doesn't mean the trip is happening.

There were three…read moredeparture locations: Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, RI, Visitor information Center at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, RI, and the main entrance of Hampton Inn New Bedford in Fairhaven, MA. Ted picked us up from the Visitor information Center two minutes prior to 7:00am. The mini coach bus was pretty full from the first pickup location. We then went on our way to the third pickup location. After our mini coach bus was full, we crossed Bourne Bridge to Woods Hole Terminal in Cape Cod to take a 45 minute Steamship Authority's ferry ride to Oak Bluffs. The ferry ride was smooth. When we got to Oak Bluffs, Ted told us about the history of Martha's Vineyard and gave us a map. First, we went to the fishing village of Menemsha for lunch and I walked to Menemsha Public Beach. Stanley Larsen, owner of Menemsha Fish Market, came on board the bus and showed us the jaws of a great white shark he caught in 1983 while swordfishing. Next, we went to the Aquinnah Cliffs Overlook to admire the beautiful cliffs of Aquinnah and Gay Head Light. This was my favorite part of the whole trip. Then, we explored the lovely harbor of shops and homes in Edgartown. I walked to the Edgartown Harbor Lighthouse, which is very close to Harbor View Hotel. Ted talked to us about the Chappaquiddick incident that occurred sometime around midnight, between July 18 and 19, 1969, while standing in front of the Harbor View Hotel looking out at the Poucha Pond. On the way to Oak Bluffs, we stopped at the "Jaws Bridge," a popular spot for jumping into the water despite signs prohibiting it. Lastly, we saw the gingerbread cottages and the tabernacle of Oak Bluffs. We then took the Steamship Authority's ferry ride from Vineyard Haven back to Woods Hole Terminal. We returned to Visitor information Center at the Rhode Island Convention Center about 7:30pm. Everyone on the trip were very respectful of the time Ted told us to return to the bus and were very friendly. This was a wonderful, fun, informational day trip to New England's most popular island and I am so glad I got to explore Martha's Vineyard for the first time with Experience Rhode Island Tours. Ted took us on a tour of the entire island, exploring its six towns. The tour included admission to Martha's Vineyard ferry, narrated tour, and round-trip transportation to and from the ferry, and transportation throughout the day on the Vineyard. Experience Rhode Island Tours always does a great job with their tours and I am looking forward to what other tours they plan in the future!

It did not disappoint and they had the most diverse amount of different varieties of daffodils I had ever seen which was amazing. We walked the lovely grounds and were happy the outdoor sculptures were still here. Then we went into the house. They have a wonderful audio tour you get with your phone which we enjoyed. I loved how the majority of the furniture in the house is original. They have plenty of parking a cute gift shop. It was just a great day. I do want to come back to have tea here. So glad I finally visited.

Wayne, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and he said that many times, people with specific interests come to the museum to learn more about certain pieces (people come to learn about clocks, rugs, paintings, wood furniture, Asian pieces, bathrooms, etc). The museum has been used in several TV shows like The Gilded Age and Treasures Inside The Museum. General entrance is $12 per adult and the best thing is to call them to schedule a tour. I bought the deal and planned the trip with the BF. I called ahead and made my reservation without a hitch. We arrived at the bus terminal and had to ask around for Historic Tours of Newport. We were advised that the driver was out on a tour but if we waited outside, we would see him when he got back. When he got back, it turns out it was just us and one other couple waiting for the next tour. Our driver was a very nice older gentleman who knew the area well. We were booked for the 1.5 hour tour. It was mostly conducted from the bus with one stop at about midpoint. The other tour is about 3 hours and you could visit one mansion (your choice). Since the bus just kept driving it wasn't like we could just stop in traffic to discuss certain highlights. The mini-bus was very well kept and clean but unfortunately not made for tall people. Since my BF is 6'4", it wasn't the most comfortable ride. I'm no jolly giant but legroom was tight for me too. The other issue with the bus was that it was really difficult to see everything the driver/guide was pointing out on the window opposite of the side you were on. Having never been on a bus tour before, I think I've now decided that walking tours are my preferred type. As stated, our driver was a nice older gentleman. We did manage to hear quite a few stories about him and his wife during the tour interspersed with talk about the homes we were driving by. All in all it wasn't the worst 1 1/2 hours I've ever spent but I was really glad I got discounted tickets. If you were staying in Newport, it would be a nice introduction to give you an idea of they lay of the land and some ideas of what else you might want to focus on. An interesting look into Marshfield's early history, the 1699 Historic Winslow house was a…read moresurprising "find" in nearby Marshfield. We have been enjoying "getting to know" our new area, and the Winslow house popped up during our search of things to do. If you live in Marshfield or surrounding towns, this is definitely an interesting-- albeit quick and easy-- sightseeing option for you, and/or guests that come into town for a visit. Hours and Admission: Tours are available to the public and run at 1 PM, 2 PM and 3 PM on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children under 10, and free for Winslow House Association Members. Tour: Our "tour guide" was Jessica, recently appointed as executive director of the Winslow House. In addition to being very knowledgeable about the property's history, she was also exceedingly cordial and pleasant. The tour wasn't overwhelmingly long-- which, I prefer-- and went through each room of the house. Be aware, this tour may not be best for those with mobility issues; there are several sets of historic stairs which are steep with shallow steps. Please bring a cane, or a folding cane/seat combo if you require assistance and/or need to sit down often. There is very limited seating. Each room has an itemized booklet of the historic artifact contained within the room. It's a great reference if you'd like to learn a little bit more. The house and property: Parking is offered in a private gravel lot off of the main road. The house and property are in "good", mainly historic, condition. The Winslow House mostly runs on our dollars (via tour admissions, event tickets, and private donations), and so many of the renovations, as I understand it, are moderated. All of the artifacts in the house, while not all original to the house, are era-appropriate and historical. They have acquired some amazing historical pieces, especially in the way of documents, that I would love to see preserved for future generations. A modest gift shop-- complete with non-fiction books, postcards, posters-- greets you as you walk in the door, and is also where you pay admission. Nearby historical properties include the Daniel Webster house, and the Marcia Thomas house, to which a walking path leads off of the Winslow property. The grounds, while moderately well-kept, would truly benefit from some organized plantings. Should the money be made available, an orchard or historically-appropriate garden bed, would really add to the charm of the property. As it stands during our last visit, the property is groomed but not bursting with landscape design. Special Events: The Winslow House also hosts special events/talks/lectures. After our tour concluded, there was a lecture given on the Titanic and its passengers from Massachusetts. The talk was free, and tea, coffee, and light snacks were served gratis. I really enjoyed this additional educational talk, and would certainly love to attend more of these free events, should they take place. Jessica, the executive director, also pointed out to us that there are several ticketed events that will take place in the coming months: the Parisian Salon ("a wine and champagne tasting along with other delights from Paris and savor an exclusive taste of the musical exhibitions that happened in Paris during Louis XIV's reign"), and a 1920s Speakeasy night. Tickets for the Parisian event are $40 for non-members, and I would expect that the Prohibition event will cost around the same, although tickets have not been made available as of the writing of this review. I'm excited to hear that Jessica is making it a mission to host these types of events, as I will definitely be taking part in at least one this summer. The 1699 Historic Winslow House is a labor of love, per the association's website. It is a genuine relic of first period colonial mansions, "virtually untouched by modernization", and a true pleasure to explore. I greatly appreciate the direction that the current association members, board of directors, and executive directors are taking, in relation to events and community outreach and education. We will definitely be back for an event, and plan on bringing visitors for tours, as well.

Winslow House is across the street from the footprint of Edward Winslow and Susannah White Winslow's original home near Duxbury bay. The house has a summer kitchen, winter kitchen with buttery and a six foot expansive hearth and central chimney. The brick oven, patterned ceiling, and period artifacts, including some from the Winslow's, add to the charm and spirituality of this beloved icon of Colonial and Revolutionary America. The founder of our town Edward Winslow and church, First Congregational Church of Marshfield, gathered in 1632 made many important legacies regarding education, political thought, equality of persons and dignity to our town and country. This home is well worth seeing and spending some time there.

Here is the review: "Tour was just okay. We didn't stop at things people clearly wanted to stop at and there was a lot that no one cared about. The driver (my wife said his name was Richard) was anxious to get through the tour because there was so much to see in 3 hours... I'm like, okay then let's stop at the stuff people want to take pics of and blow off the rest of this crap. He also zoomed by and barely slowed down long enough to take a photo of something other than the back of the hand of the person sitting in front of you... the hand that was still there because they didn't have time to take a pic either. The driver also talked about Obama and Clinton the ENTIRE tour. I lost count at 8 stories. (This is not an exaggeration.) (Owner denied this could be true... ask anyone else who was on this tour... and I'm sure he uses these stories consistently.) I'm not a staunch anti-dem, but this was simply ridiculous.
