They are very family oriented and have a long history of putting the needs of the child first, even if the parents aren't ready to hear it. I am one of those parents. We knew our son was different, but the teachers helped us figure out that he had sever ADHD and is on the autism spectrum. They did this with love and respect, walking the boundaries of being respectful of parent wishes and pushing for what was best for our child. The center not only has made an impact with me, I have worked in the field almost 30 years and 10 of those are here at CCYC, but also with my family as my oldest son put his daughter on our waitlist the moment they found out they were pregnant. She handles our daughter so well- is patient, caring and takes time to talk to us about her classroom development nearly everyday. Ms. Megan's classroom occassionally teams up with Ms.Nina's and her Efforts with her classroom are noticible. She is creative, playful and intentional- both women are. I Admire their profession so much and my family is deeply grateful for the role they are playing in shaping our three year old Girl. The building is secure, with its own parking area for drop off pick up and a coded entry door. The classroom structure is like a public school would be with multiple classrooms of children grouped by age. They have a learning schedule, a small outdoor play space with a recess time block, etc. I noticed the staff did not interact very much h with the children while we were touring. When we entered the one year old room, the children were laying around on the floor away from the staff who were in a small group chatting with each other. In the outdoor play space, we saw about the same thing during recess. We were not there for a long time so it's possible they interact more than we were able to see.

The center is broken up into multiple rooms. The kids start out in the baby room then it goes toddler room, 2 year old room, 3 year old room, and preschool room. Each room has a teacher and an assistant in it. The best part of this daycare is all of the amenities. During the summer months the kids get to go horseback riding once a week, go on a boat ride once a week, go on nature walks, and swimming once a week. The facility has an indoor heated pool that the kids 3 years and older get to swim in once a week all year long. The daycare has multiple outdoor play areas for the kids to play and they rotate the kids between the different play areas. When we were looking for daycares we called around to a number of the daycares around Ankeny and Easter Seals was one of the cheaper daycares which is amazing considering all of the amenities that you get for the money compared to the other daycares. This daycare is truly a hidden gem.

While, they're not as strict as other Montessori daycares, I find that a good approach. Children are meant to be children and they discover with play. Applying strict rules to everything restricts kids imagination but that doesn't mean that they are not given structure. As far as I've seen, they keep the kids active during the summer, and whenever weather permits during the winter. I like that they don't have TV and their playground is great. They are right across from a park so they go there during the summer sometimes. The only thing Im not too happy about is when I've called to let them know about something, I feel like i'm always rushed by the person at the other end.
