The items were then given to the people who worked on them or were resold. Goodwill's philosophy is "a hand up, not a hand out". Today Goodwill has become a $5 billion nonprofit organization that provides job training, employment, and community programs for people who have disabilities that might prevent them from getting a job on their own. This Goodwill store is located in LaBelle. There are different extra discount days posted on the outside window. Inside the store are two rooms of used and new clothes, household goods, accessories, toys, art, and misc. I always like checking out the bric-a-brac. There were a number of new items here including inexpensive 2 for $1 party supplies, sheets, candles, and clothing and accessories. This store has a tiny furniture section but they sell new mattresses. There is a community outreach center right in the store. It is nice to know that this store is providing jobs and that the money raised here is helping the community.

If you're in the market for used furniture, check 'em out. I saw a number of items I would consider ... and I'm picky about what goes in to my home. Look for discounts. Glassware, fifty cents. Pictures, full price for one, a dollar for the second. Noritake China with plenty of pieces, $150. (The same set on Ebay for $1,000 plus shipping.) Eight cool-looking comfortable kitchen chairs, $10 each. The main reason I thrift is to find unique, often vintage pieces that are hard to replicate. Plus it doesn't hurt to save money and recycle.

We would not have discovered this place if it were not for geocaching. We took the drive from Ft…read moreMyers and arrived on a beautiful cool day (for Florida). Perfect weather for hiking. The trails are well maintained even though some sections were muddy (not sure when it rained last). The trails are very well marked and with one of their maps in hand it is hard to get lost. We hiked all the way down to the Old Datsun trail and back 5.5 miles total. Being winter the bugs were nonexistent. We didn't see much wildlife given we were out late morning and early afternoon but I am guessing this could be a good place for birders. We were informed at the visitor center that a black bear had been recently spotted on one of their trail cams - yikes! We noticed the extensive list of events and classes. If we were visiting for longer we definitely would look into some of these. We saw that they have a couple large screened in shelters that are probably used for classes and picnics. Overall a very nice resource.

We have rules to follow; We become members (after 2 visits); we care about our community and our people. We have charities that we support on a regular basis. Google about scholarships. We like to entertain our members and offer activities and meals at good prices. If you're lonely, want to read a book, listen to music, want to laugh.. come in, check us out. Not just on one day.. do it on different days. Meet different people. We need you as much as you need us. :)

Patrons even help out if necessary to run and get groceries to help out the staff. They have variety of entertainment come in and play and sing. We enjoy it here so much we come multiple times a week. We love being members here. The Moose is an amazing community who has a wonderful reputation of caring for retirees at MooseHaven and for children at Mooseheart.
