If you don't know what it…read moreis, it's a non-profit organization that has been archiving pretty much EVERY SINGLE piece of both digital and print media -- whether it's a webpage, games that work only on MS-DOS, music, even cultural artifacts -- since the Internet was born. If you've ever used the Way Back machine to play the Oregon trail online or to look up what a website looked like in 1998, then you've used the Internet Archive. It's probably one of the most impressive and incredible FREE public service we have in the world that is *literally* run on good will, donations, and on the principle that access to information should always be free. We took a tour here on Friday when they do free tours (usually around 1PM) and you get to see the behind the scenes of how they archive works and some of the original servers that host ALL the data the year 1997 (yes, ALL 2-TB of it!!). The building alone is beautiful architecturally -- it used to be a Christian Scientist church -- and they still kept the pews in the main room, so it's a cool piece of history to step into. If you're free in a Friday afternoon in the Inner Richmond, highly HIGHLY recommend doing the tour and supporting (or donating) this wonderful institution. This is definitely one of the most underrated places in SF!

The exhibits are very typography oriented (hence the name "Letterform Archive"), with events online and in person. They offer special rebates and NARM* for members depending of membership level. You can sign up for tours, research visits, , or connect with the speakers in the In-Person Salons and lectures that happen every now and then. If you are a vaguely visual person or are a super type nerd, this place will spark joy. If you are a deeper set introvert, you can also browse their so far digitized collection on their Online Archive, and/or watch their incredible lectures/salons online. There is something for everyone. Anyone! The gallery has changing exhibits that go from the works from specific designers (currently: Piet Zwart; Jack Stauffacher before) to the designers of famous design schools (the school of Bauhaus), or a very niche exhibit like Graffiti Zines of the 90ies, and more intense topics: Typographic Messages of Protest (my favorite exhibit so far). I think it's good to go on a Free Admission Thursday, if you are not sure if you'll be that into the current exhibit, or pay 10 bucks if you appreciate the effort of the setup and org as a donation. On the sidewalk? Where do other people go? Would have been nice to have some customer service in that area or have some info on the website or Eventbrite page.

Yes, it feels extremely dated; not…read moreonly does it not feel modern, but because of how water has eroded and stained some of the stone, it feels old. Maybe tattered. But it also feels permanent, as in it's a survivor, and it won't deteriorate any further, or at least it won't look that much worse to the layperson's eye. But if San Francisco Rec & Parks and Scott Weiner agree on something, that surely means it's overpriced and overdone, a waste of taxpayer money, and bad for San Francisco. So I oppose the major changes being made to Harvey Milk Plaza. No, we don't need to destroy the plaza in order to save it. When I started working in Berkeley full time in 2011, I would often take the 24 to Castro Station, ride any streetcar to one of the stations it shared with BART, and take BART from there. Even though I was nervous about a new job like I'm nervous about everything, there was something downright welcoming about that jaunty walk down the angled stairs of what I would eventually learn is Harvey Milk Plaza. It's still an inviting descent, even with all the demolition and construction occurring around it.

He was elected as the first openly gay Supervisor, who in 1978, was tragically murdered, along with Mayor George Moscone, in City Hall, by Supervisor Dan White. The current plaza is slated for a remodel to make it more accommodating for events, protests, memorials, speakers. Minus 1 star for the huge staircase which is not friendly to people with mobility issues. There might be an elevator somewhere, but I've never seen it, and it's heartbreaking to watch an elderly person slowly making their way down to access the Castro Station. There is an up elevator.

I really love what you've done with Lakeside Landing. It's such a creative use of space, and I can…read morereally see the potential for it to become a go-to spot for families with young kids. Being able to grab food, sit outside, and let kids explore makes it such a great concept. I know this is a volunteer-led effort, and it really shows how much care has gone into creating something special for the community. The stage, fairy garden, life-size chess board, and boat add so much character. To make the space even more family-friendly, I would love to see more open play options for toddlers and younger kids. Right now, when I bring my preschooler, she sometimes isn't quite sure what to engage with, so having a few more clearly defined, toddler-friendly play elements would make it even more inviting. Things like simple climbing structures, stepping logs, sensory play elements, large rocks to climb on, a mud kitchen, or even a small area with rotating toys would go a long way. I think adding a few more toddler/preschool friendly open play areas could also bring in more families on weekends and support the surrounding businesses even more. If parents knew this was a reliable spot where their kids could play and hang out for a couple of hours while they eat, it could really become a go-to destination--especially since there aren't any outdoor, kid-friendly dining spaces nearby. I know this is a volunteer-led initiative, so I completely understand there may be budget considerations, but even a few simple, low-cost additions (like adding a mud kitchen) could make a big impact to bring more families to your space. Would love to know how people can get involved or share ideas if there are ways for the community to contribute. Overall, such a great addition to the community--we really appreciate all the effort behind it and look forward to seeing it continue to grow.

It wasn't quite the day of the sale, so they moved everything into their entrance/front-of-store. I was a kid in a candy store. There were so many pieces by so many artists, and the sale was still going on (most importantly). It's 2 story, and we were able to explore both, with plenty of offerings on both levels. I was looking for a cortado vessel, and I left very very happy. If I had more money, I think I'd be spending a LOT of it here, hahaha. It feels rustic and connected, the entire store. Artists are walking around and in and out. I have to respect the fact that the whole place is just buzzing and alive. I wish I lived closer, because I might come once a month, if I did! Come on by for your cute ceramics! Something for everyone, I think.

Tip: if you want to get into a class, get your credit card ready right when the sign up time starts. If you're even a minute late, you won't be getting into the class -- the capacity is not that large and the demand is high. If you've had some pottery experience, you can also try to get into the drop-in program. There's also studio and locker space but the waitlist for that is literally years long. It's also one of the few places doing cone 10 firings with very unique glazes that are formulated in the studio. There are two different kinds of shino, three different kinds of celadon, all sorts of mattes and a really unique satin white and satin black. Ruby's is the OG for pottery in SF. Way before pinterest and instagram got tech folks like me into throwing pottery, Ruby's got started in this residential building back in the hippie 60s. There are folks teaching and doing work at Ruby's who got their start here from back then. It's also a non-profit with a strong sense of community. You'll learn a lot from watching and talking to other potters in the studio
